The 2024 BMW IX and BMW X5 50e are some of the most advanced SUV's on the market today, each with phenomenal tech, options and great ride quality. Ive been wanting to make a comparison video for a while since they've added the $9900 incentive on the IX it makes each car just a very good value at this price point.

@Caleb. Great video. Quick follow up question. Maybe unrelated. If I’m not planning to charge at all, will I get any benefits for the 50e vs a 40i?

100% so thank you for asking! The 50e gets an additional 108 horsepower over the 40i as well as overall improved gas mileage, air ride suspension on top of not being that much more expensive, you’ll also get better braking performance due to the electric motors regen ability, marginally increased fuel economy and if you ever decide to start charging can take advantage of the electric goodies as well.

Nice, thanks. Picking up a 24 X5 50E here soon, loaded it up. Coming from years of EVs so kinda like the 40 mile range give/take of electric, but gas for sure for road trips. Most of my driving is about 30 miles a day so will cover that in electric. Got the ivory leather again, its way nicer - and its not like we are throwing away the hides/meat and those cows wouldn't be raised and killed for food reasons anyways. ;-)

Nice comparison Caleb. Just what I was looking for as I have a 2023 loaded iX 50 that I ordered and took delivery 11/22. I tend to trade every 2 years, and looking hard at the X5 xDrive50e. Order now, ready about 4 months. I take a trip at least once or twice per month to a mountain home of about 350 miles, so I stop to charge (still free fuel with the 2 years of Electrify America), but not the most convenient to do. I sometimes show 360-365 mile range when I charge at home or at our mountain home, but won’t chance the range. This video helps me to zero in if I stay with BMW.

Caleb, liked your review. Questions: ride quality and cabin noise between these two? Also, constructive criticism: change the name of the channel, make it more nicknamish (more brand oriented in the future), I like how you present the information, just be aware of words like ‘freeking’ etc. The rest is good, as I said - liked it. Cabin noise is equivalent, and ride quality would pander marginally to the X5 but it’s a close fight as the IX handles better and the X5 feels marginally more planted and comfy w the bump support. It’s a personal preference more than anything but I would personally drive the IX if range wasnt a concern 🫣

0-60 in the IX 50 isn’t 3.0 seconds more like 4.5 seconds .

Keep in mind regarding imitation leather (Sensitec), the animal is slaughtered primarily for the meat, and the animal skin being processed into automobile leather is basically an additional use of the animal. Seems a waste of the skin to just through it away and potentially more respect for the animal to actually use as much of the donor animal as possible.

I agree with you but one day hopefully we’ll eat less red meat and this will be the way forward. I really do enjoy the product and dont mind it vs leather or not

Ix due to the traction system of full evs but both are great

iX40 is actually 180kg less, but only 10min worse compared to iX50 on 1000km challenge. And much cheaper.

I am saying it one last time, not buying leather is stupid. As the annimals are still slaughtered to become food, the hides now go to waste.. so buying seats with leather from cows and such is no problem. Please stop these stupid comments.. buying non leather is only harmfull when the annimals where specifically slaughtered for their hides and everything else gets thrown away..
