Just traded my 2021 X5 40i for a 2024. I too was reluctant to change because of lack of physical buttons. I found the I drive 8 system fairly easy to learn/use and you still have the selection wheel plus voice commands. Climate controls readily accessible. I bought the M Sport ,Premium and driver assist packages. I do notice the HP power increase and adaptive system tuning. All and all a nice upgrade! With BMW loyalty Car club and military incentives a decent deal. I’ve owned Porsches and other performance cars, but this hits the “sweet spot!

I just got the X5 Blue Ridge Mountain. I get a lot of compliments on the color. I love this SUV.

Thanks for the sunglasses information. I dislike how I can't see the heads up display with my current sunglasses, and didn't know that there were polarized lenses that don't do that.

I'm a licensed optician. Polarized lenses are bad for LCD screens. Use tinted sunglasses instead. Tinted and non polarized if you worry about reading car digital displays

I'm in the market for an X5, but the lack of physical HVAC controls is probably a deal breaker. I can probably save some money and buy a 2023 instead though :-)

@@jsfbay1 I meant there are major differences between 2023 and 2024. The outer styling, improved cabin (I agree no physical buttons) however that makes the inside minimalist and posh, 100 HP more on xdrive40i. The handling, body roll, power management are all refined in 2024 model. If you go one up to xdrive50e that's completely another league with air suspension, a total 200 HP more than previous generation xdrive40i, 45 miles of pure electric range. Not only on paper but also while driving 2024 versions are significantly better. Therefore, as a friend I recommend a 2024 x5 over a 2023 one.

my experience: i traded in a 2021 x5 50i, i was getting 12 mpg it was awful, i got a 2024 xdrive4oi w/ M sport pro package, sooo much better and still great perfomance and getting double the mpg, here is the funny thing, so a week later, I got to drive a 2024 Sdrive40i with the M sport pro, and M sport professional, and WOW so light, nimble i never thought an x5 could feel so dynamic, i only wish you could option the M sport differential as the eletronic one on the Sdrive is a little slow and will give you some wiggles on hard accelerations.

Great comment. Thanks! They’re great driving vehicles and yes, the 50i is nice but really not necessary as the 40i is more than capable.

It doesn’t have standard All Wheel Drive. Sdrive is Rear Wheel Drive and if it you don’t have the i at the end after the numbers, it’s also Rear Wheel Drive.

My 2021 X5 has remote handles in the back to lower the 2nd row seats.. so strange that they would remove that. It probably cost more money to remove it, then to just leave it.

Not sure what the uproar is. You can get many commands by voice. Not the end of the world as other people are making it to be. It’s a great car

The voice commands are half-baked and slow, at best.

X drive is not standard on all X5s. At least not in the US. As I think about it, FWD variant probably not offered in Canada.

iDrive 8 is an abomination. The 8 shortcuts are gone. Climate control buttons are gone. Heated seats and ventilated seats are now have to be turned on / off in software. Manual low beams and PARKING LIGHTS are in iDrive. Was the turn-style switch too complicated, for BMW? Even the HEATED STEERING WHEEL BUTTON is gone. No one can dispute that having to navigate a software menu to do simple tasks is easier and safer than a switch you can locate and turn on, without looking, by memory. The fact the common sense has been lost around this is totally mind boggling. Kool Aid drinkers will say use voice commands. But the voice commands are slow and half baked, at best. You can easily press a button and have your attention back on the road before the voice system is even ready to take your command. Won't buy another BMW until BMW undoes iDrive 8 buttonless stupidity.

My family is in the market for one of this. The problem, no 3rd row seating in the X5. So we are looking in the MDX TypeS but for the price I would like to get the X5.

Most uneducated video ever. What does the mild hybrid have to do with helping acceleration… 🤦🏻♂️ Also the X line has adaptive suspension (not air) while the S does not. Educate yourself before “reviews”
