with Euro competitors, sure. Acura and Lexus (not to mention Infiniti and Genesis) max out well below where the optioned out models of BMW/MB/etc. land. Sure, they don't have perfect parity re: all the bells and whistles, but most people won't notice them or care anyway, and we still haven't gotten to overall reliability... By all means, if one can [genuinely] afford it and wants everything they offer, rock on there's no denying they're sweet rides. That said, I'm in NYC and see AMGs/Ms/Rs/etc. all the time. They're either stuck in traffic like everyone else or putzing on the TP going 65-70 in the middle lane, so experience dictates performance wasn't a big factor even though it's pretty much the point (beyond cache/prestige) with those models.

The dealer was not BMW and wanted to get it off his lot (car is very very clean), so I got $7,000 more on my trade in than any other dealer of any German make offered. Trade value was $51k and my oop including all fees and taxes was $22k. MSRP on the BMW was $81k. Color is this somewhat unique gray. I do agree the X5 looks better than say, the Q7. Which is why I would get a Q8 instead. That would mean a whole lot more money. Porsche I could manage, but they are ridiculous when it comes to maintaining if you are not a do it yourselfer. OOP on a 2024 certified Q8 was $36k (might have been able to talk it down a bit) and for a certified Cayenne it would have been well over $40k if not $50k.

Nice review. One thing I might disagree on...the lack of a digital rearview mirror. I had one in a rental Escalade, and hated it. Other traffic in the mirror was out of normal proportions. Maybe it was just a poor implementation, but it was bad enough that I would never buy a vehicle with a mirror like that. On the other hand, your comment on the adaptive cruise control is spot on. I bought a '22 M550i, and didn't realize I didn't have adaptive cruise until it was too late. Even my 2012 Charger, and 2012 Grand Cherokee came with is.
@jeffs60906 ай бұрын
I love that feature! Every vehicle should come standard with digital rear mirrors, especially coupes and coupe suvs. Those are more difficult to see out of normally. Plus, a loaded cargo area or three people in the back will block your view. If you don't care for them, guess what, you can turn it off and never use it. Therefore, it's a rather dumb statement to say you'd never buy a car that has one.
@donwilber16286 ай бұрын
@@jeffs6090 Well Jeff, I find your statement, indicating that you'd accept something that is a safety issue, as more than just dumb. I was pretty clear that it may have just been a bad implementation, and that should be a clue to you that I'm open to a better one, but maybe you missed that.
@jeffs60906 ай бұрын
@donwilber1628 "...but it was bad enough that I would never buy a vehicle with a mirror like that." That, in no way, says that you would be open to a better one. Unless you have some sort of weird girl brain where you say one thing but mean something completely different because "they knew what they meant". What aspect is the safety issue for you? Because for me, it's a safety issue by not having one for when it's impossible to see out the back when there's people or gear blocking your view, or in a coupe suv that has poor visibility by design. Something, even if it's "a poor implementation", is better than not having it.
@donwilber16286 ай бұрын
@@jeffs6090 Clearly, reading is a challenge for you. You're the only person who's had an issue with it. And no, a poor implementation isn't better than not having it. Naveen, the Chinese have already made bmw irrelevant, you will see. Toyota and Honda will quickly have to ramp up EVs other China will take over all car production

Lexus isn’t a legitimate luxury brand and they’re having turbo problems

@@naveenthemachine I'm a Toyota guy, so I consider Lexus luxury. The turbo issue is addressed by the recall, no worries. I'd be happy with the BMW for a 3 year lease just like Soyfan

Nope, my dad cross-shopped both the X5 and the GLE and the GLE is trash compared to the X5 (I can elaborate further if you really want me to), he will be copping a fully loaded X5 later this year

Have had X5s in 2 separate occasions. Both horrible cars, absolute loads of problems! Changed to a GLE450 in 2020, wonderful car in every single sense, especially the MBUX it’s brutally superior!!! As of Dec 2023, we changed it for GLE63AMG… The X5 has way much to do before it gets any close to this car, in every sense

@@miguelrodfher congratulations on getting a car with worse build quality but 1st I would like to clarify that the newer X5s are a lot more reliable than the older ones as long as you avoid the plug-in hybrid

As someone who has been buying cars (relatively high end ones) for the last 21 years, with the exception of brands such as RR or Bentley, there isnt a car with as high quality as Mercedes-Benz… you can claim anything you wish… but there’s a reason why the S class is the standard of luxury

@@miguelrodfher okay then I need an explanation why my best friend’s mom had both a 2020 and 2021 GLS with horrible build quality (both cars have been horribly unreliable too) and the same friend who went to a Mercedes dealer recently told me every new car in their showroom had horrible build quality, I’ve been in multiple BMWs/Audis/Porsches and the build quality is amazing

Vinyl is not more durable than leather. Also, as it heats and cools over a period of just a couple years, is going to crack, get shiny and become more and more like plastic.

@@pete23234 the best quality shoes aren’t vinyl…they’re leather. Why is that? Leather is the same color all the way through, and vinyl is not. Leather is a natural material that breathes, vinyl is not. Leather color is made with dyes, and vinyl is with synthetic paints. Leather can be patched, sewn and repaired, and vinyl can’t.
