Just checked the website. For me, it was 47K drive away in sydney. That’s a lot of car for the money. Looks good on the road, good size SUV which so many aussies like. My only dislike, and it’s very personal, is the guitar strings and the air vents. Also some nice extras for an entry level car, like dash camera, sunroof, soft touches, good safety like smart cruise control, lane departure warning. Oh and a 6 year warranty(Germany take note). Yeah, thats a lot for 47K

Having never spent more than $20,000 on a vehicle before I am a little bit daunted by the price tag, as a professional driver of heavy vehicles, I was impressed by how well that it performed. Size wise it’s really the perfect family SUV..not too small that it compromises practically for a regular family of 4 and not too big to handle through tight spots..and the efficiency is actually quite good in urban/suburban road conditions…but of course the glaring obvious is this is a sub-AUD$30000 car in China(without including any government trade in subsidies of another 5k off) so selling it for above $45k is honestly not going to realise its true potential…

Thanks for the update. For those looking at preupdate Attos, disregard the reports on ride and handling because replacing the very soft Atlas tyres with a stiffer tyre, transforms the handling and ride. The "build your dreams" lettering can be removed with dental floss or fishing line. Camp mode is available in the recent update. So not a lot of improvements..... Given that free charging is available between 11-2pm, a faster AC charge would be helpful. Byd's reputation for best value on the market is under threat from Xpeng, such as their G6 which has rear wheel drive, is 10-20% more efficient, 11kW AC, +200kW DC, AI interface, self park, summon, ventilated seats, long (maybe) warranty, reclining rear seat ect. The slippery Xpeng Mona 03 hatchback with 620 litre boot, 11kwh per 100km also has significant value which will hopefully be introduced to Australia. Helpful for everyone if EV prices drop, demo Oras for low $30k is promising. BYDs commitment to hybrids could be self defeating if the specialist EV manufacturers like Tesla and Xpeng narrow the gap. Xpeng say in 2024/25 they will spend US$1B on ADAS and they actively encourage feedback directly from customers.

BYD introduced the Atto3 into Australia at A$45k (50kWh) and A$48k (60kWh). At that time the price in China was 144k cny (A$30.2k) and 154k cny (A$32.4k). So basically a 50% mark up. The 2024 model was launched in China with a price reduction to 120k cny (A$25.2k) and 130k cny (A$27.3k). It is after all a 3 year old design. So in China the official price dropped 20% while Australian importer raised the price. If they kept the same 50% margin they had at the launch of the brand in Oz the prices would be A$38k (50kWh) and A$41k (60kWh). So basically they are 10k too expensive. The fact that other brands (looking at you Volvo) are even worse is no excuse.
@LudicrousFeed8 күн бұрын
The other issue too is that the tech is moving so quickly that they are becoming superseded quickly and customers aren't happy as Zeekr have discovered! At least with smartphones they are being globally released at the same time
@AJames-jr8kw8 күн бұрын
Yes the iteration speed in China is beyond the comprehension of westerners. By the time legacy auto design, build and market a model it is already obsolete at launch. Nissan Aryia was shown to the public years before if became available. On release it was nothing special. Legacy auto show cars they will introduce in 2027 and 2028. Who will want them then?
@davidtaylor35 күн бұрын
@@AJames-jr8kw you clearly don't understand how pricing works. Manufacturers will always aim to maximise profits by taking into account local market conditions and the pricing of the competition. The Australian market is very different to the Chinese market and it is priced accordingly. That may change over time with the introduction of new models into the country, but right now the Atto 3 still represents good value in Australia.
@AJames-jr8kw2 күн бұрын
@@davidtaylor3 I know perfectly well how pricing works so you "clearly" know nothing about what I know. Just because companies charge what the market will bear doesn't excuse Direct EV getting a huge discount on the previous price of the cars and not passing some of it on hoping their customers wont notice.
@davidtaylor3Күн бұрын
@@AJames-jr8kw but they did pass some of the savings on. The 2024 Atto 3 is about $3.5k cheaper than the 2023 model despite various upgrades. Claiming that it is still $10k too expensive in Australia because the price has dropped in China doesn’t reflect well on your understanding of pricing. If that was the case then no one would be buying them, and yet the Atto 3 was the highest selling non-Tesla EV in Australia in August. So no, it is not $10k too expensive and EV Direct would be foolish to slash the price by 20% at this time. They need to keep something up their sleeve for when the competition inevitably heats up in Australia in the coming months and years.

Came across in the begining as a BYD ad rather than a review with you standing there in a BYD shirt going on about how great the Atto3 was for 50k. Changed a piece of plastic trim from silver to black, put better tires on, removed the Build your dream off the tail gate and increase the screen size so it now gets in the way when in portrait mode. Oh yeah black paint ..in Australia with common 43 degree summer temperatures. Given that BYD introduced the 2024 Atto3 (Yuan Plus) in China with a 12.5% price drop over the 2023 price I find the Atto3 in Australia poor value especially given the servicing costs. It now costs 119800 CNY (A$25,400) in China (135400 cny A$28600 previously) . Australia has a free trade agreement with China. There are no tariffs. A$50k is not good value.
