I have a 2002 Silverado Z71 extended cab. The fuel pump died quietly after 21 years of faithful service, the original starter lasted 22 years as did the front hubs. The truck has the original brake rotors on it, I did replace one caliper and the rear axle bearings and is still running the original drive train with about 250,000 miles on it.

@fredericktaylor2891, there are def good/bad vehicles in all manufacturers, some models may just be more prone to premature failures. I also have a Chevy product, a 20 yr old sedan bought new. Total cost of purchase/financing and ownership for that 20 yrs including repairs/maintenance, less than $30,000, still on the road with near 260,000 miles. Obviously taking care of your vehicles helps but sometimes you find a lemon, sometimes a pearl!

if GM designed a wooden spoon, it would be made of balsa wood to cut down on the weight, a thin handle to make it easier to wash, have a hole in the middle to make sure it wasn't overloaded with weight (because of the balsa and thin handle) and it would be made to only work for a month or so (that way you keep buying them over and over.

Your focused on minute details. You wanted that truck loaded straight, ive had others not care and ram the tire against the rail. Orher tower's should watch you as an example to follow so our vehicles arent torn up from others not caring. Ive had two terrible experiences where my vehicles were damaged from being loaded on a flatbed inappropriately. In both cases the tow truck driver was exempt from accountability. @@WyattBuckland-hc6vi The problem is GM sucks at electronics and the EPA forces them to shove more and more sensors in for the "environment" and consumers keep demanding more and more tech but the reason everyone keeps writing the checks for these GM POSs is 1. they don't want to deal with Ford's recall of the week game when it already takes 8 weeks to get in and they have to hold onto your truck/car during which another 2 will come out for your truck/car and you will be on ANOTHER 6 week wait to get that one fixed (Ford just recalled another 100k trucks in the past 3 days) 2. they dont want to deal with RAM's what will break in my engine next game (seriously who puts a bolt that isnt rated for current inside the intake and moving current), or the new starter every 30k miles thing (waranty only covers the starter for 25k miles), or the fact they are rusting out within 3 years in some cases, or the fact the transmission slips more then a 4L60E after 300k miles, or the fact the windows will sometimes just roll down or up and not respond to safety sensors or the button, or the fact the break calapers will sometimes just fail for no reason, or the fact the engine cooler will sometimes just fail and you have to take it back to the dealership for a full rebuild im going to stop now bc it just keeps going (RAM being owned by Fiat is not helping these issues) 3. I am a chevy fan boy and I hate what GM has done to Chevy in recent years but Chevy/GMC trucks are topping out in reliability charts because even with all the issues they have been having they are still not having as many as the other 2 options for trucks that need to work 4. The towing capacity on the Chevy 3500s 36k lb, the towing capacity on the F350 is 32,900 lb, and the towing capacity on the RAM 3500 37k lb so they are buying for the towing power these new truck have because the old trucks could not get rated to tow that much with the 2010 years having a max across all 3 of only 15k lb

Has original motor, transfer case and axles. 329k with 40psi oil pressure idling and 60 psi driving down the road around 2000 rpm. Also, original A/C still ice-cold front and rear. Probably kept having the same mechanic with the same mental block making the same mistake over and over. Good ol' (bad) piece work makes us all pay and pay and pay. If a wty comes back, a DIFFERENT mechanisms should be covered under wty each time the wty repair comes back. This would solve a lot of these bleepin frustration guinea pig scenarios. And we'd have a stronger happier mechanic worker base with a more appropriate financial reimbursement for their skills. Who's to pay for this? If the wty parts aren't deemed faulty then the 1st mechanic has to give back his money for first crack. And the mfgr pays for each new mechanic till the issue is FIXED. And customer should have some additional financial reward also if car has to go back more than twice. This needs to be done in the RV world, and it sure as blazes needs to be done in the automotive world. Way too much incompetency in car design and engineering and present system has the loyal CUSTOMER always flipping the bill until they get so disgusted they swear off the brand. And so it goes.

It doesn’t matter what car company, new cars are crap. When you start taking parking /emergency brake cables, steering columns out of vehicles and replacing them with computer chips that can be easily damaged especially in cold weather climates it’s no wonder a new vehicle won’t last 10 years.

I started out as a tech in the car business in the mid 1990's. I could see then and a few years previous to that that the business was moving toward more and more electronics controlling everything. There are way too many modules in vehicles now that are not needed. It adds to the complexity of the vehicle and makes it impossible for the do-it-yourselfer to fix. Also, making all these electronic parts in places other than the U.S.is not good because there is little, to no quality control.

This is why I am keeping my 2012 Ford Focus Hatchback (with MANUAL transmission). Today's vehicles have so much tech on them that they can't work. Meanwhile, my 13 year old car has had no major issues in more than 176,000 miles, and it still runs like new. I don't need a vehicle with an electric dog polisher, satellite tracking software, or an automatic ass wiping mechanism. I don't know why they put all that stuff on vehicles today.

It's not just cars--the whole society gets more and more tech garbage installed in every nook and cranny every single day. It's not really adding value, just complexity. I think the benefits of tech peaked sometime in the early 2000s, and it's been an overall negative ROI since then. I have a 2011 Honda Fit with manual trans--the thing is like a go cart. I paid a small wad of cash for it. I'm going to avoid the complicated electronics and bells and whistles in all my future vehicles.

@@KevinKimmich44024 - Agreed. I feel there is tech in vehicles today that shouldn't be there. My wife's 2013 Ford C-Max has a touch screen and changing radios stations is a horrible experience. You have to look at the screen intently and make sure you touch the very small picture of the radio "preset button," since there is no feel to the flat screen. In my 2012 Ford Focus, it has actual buttons in the shape of a flip phone keypad. It even has a protrudin dimple on the middle button so when you touch the pad of buttons you know exactly where you are. I can go through the radio stations I want, in the order I want, without ever taking my eyes off the road. Today's cars with touch screens can't do that. And for the people who say "There is a button on the steering wheel you can use to go through the radio stations," yeah, in only one order. I am always changing priority of the order of the radio stations I want to go through, like if I heard one was at a commercial break I may go back to that one first to see if there is a song on it now. I don't want to have to go through 8 other stations to get to that one by using the button on the steering wheel.

Because of net nonsense regulations on diesels they don't work as well.

2022 gmc Sierra 1500 currently around 9k miles. I had the same problem around 5k miles and I had put it in park believing it would go to neutral later. It did not. I went underneath the truck to see if the transmission had the common shaft to change gear position. The shaft protrudes on the drivers side (where a cable used to connect before on older transmissions), but the rotation of the shaft is so long that I couldn't get it out of park with a set of slip joint pliers. I don't even know if that will get it out of park now a days, but I tried and was not able to turn the shaft enough to change the transmission gear location. The dash did show and recognize that the truck wasn't fully in park though. It left me stranded on the road and I wasn't able to get it towed until the next day because of the holidays. Just an FYI for others with the same truck, if it's in neutral, leave it in neutral, regardless of how much the truck beeps and complains to you.
