I just bought this truck a couple weeks ago. I looked at a Tacoma Limited, TRD Offroad (the offroad doesn't even begin to compare to these), Rangers, and this. Here's what I found driving all three and being inside them: The ranger raptor is a higher price point but can't really do truck things because it has coils for rear suspension instead of leaf springs. It states it can handle 5k towing but my friend has one and a 3k boat and it sagged his suspension quite heavily and he has a weighsafe adjustable hitch so we knew the tongue weight was perfect and it was level. 5k is still low, and it seems to struggle getting there. If you never tow then that truck has many of the same amenities this does, plus a larger multimedia screen so it probably is the better choice if you can afford it or are looking for pure off-road toy performance. The Tacoma was a massive letdown. The interior felt cheap, the sound system was horrible, it felt like a midtrim truck inside. The new drivetrain doesn't feel nice, and it felt as weak as it looks on paper. It also can only tow 6700 even though one of their mottos is "setting a new standard for towing prowess." The off-road is significantly worse than the other two at actually doing that, and the limited is the only one that actually feels like a daily driver truck and not purposed for work, but even then for over 50k it feels like a 40k truck at best. The ZR2 and the raptor are basically main competitors to each other, the raptor being a faster truck if you care about that, and having a slight off-road advantage with the coil springs instead of leaf springs (although the DSSV dampers on the ZR2 are NICE and I would wager the difference is negligible unless you are a great driver). The reasons I went with the ZR2 over the raptor came down to: 1. A strong 7700lb tow rating vs a 5k rating on the raptor that doesn't like getting near the rated number suspension wise 2. Raptors cost quite a bit more than the ZR2 and you don't get much more other than the HP (it's a truck, I don't care how fast it is, it's still slow) 3. I think the ZR2 looks better than the rest by quite a bit, though raptors do look nice 4. It had the best sound system 5. It was the most comfortable of the three to drive 6. It was the only truck where I had to seriously nitpick for negatives for my use case (towing a bass boat all the time, a flatbed occasionally, daily driving it, and also being off-road quite a bit in nasty areas where the off roading features are necessary)

And let’s be honest. The Colorado looks better than any of the newer mid size trucks and not by a little. Chevy absolutely nailed the design..if they had a strong v6 in it. I’d probably trade my Silverado for one….but maybe one day
@Wrenchingandnursing8 ай бұрын
@@Getusom Honestly I would view a NA V6 as a major downgrade (look at last gen colorados probably the worst truck to ever exist). The 4 cylinder in this truck has been used in fullsize silverados for years with excellent reliability. Going even further, the high output version found on trailbosses, z71s, and ZR2s have forged bottom ends as well. They are completely over engineered for this application and have an incredible amount of headway before getting close to breaking something.
@Getusom8 ай бұрын
@@Wrenchingandnursing time will tell….im curious long term,,,say, past 10 years and more how they will hold up….i had a s-10 that had right at 300k miles on it before tearing it down and rebuilding it….3.6L. @Wrenchingandnursing8 ай бұрын
@@Getusom I still have a 98 S10 ZR2 with a 4.3 in it. It was my first truck as a kid and I'll never get rid of it. That was back when the 4l60E was put into smaller trucks and you could do a 350 swap in a weekend. We will never get those days back.

I bought one 2 weeks ago. It came with a lot of options, but I added tunnel cover, mud flaps, and side steps, too. They tell me that the side steps may not come in until December. I'm not happy about it. The front plastic fender flares were loose, but they fixed that . Apparently, that is a problem on other Colorado ZR2 trucks. Otherwise, I like it.

About the headlights. I think I saw another. KZbinr mentioned that you do have the flash highbeams control on the stock to the left of the steering wheel. I don’t know if that’s true or how it works, but it might be the pull toward you and they flash things so that’s the only thing I really care about on the headlight controls anyway.

As usual in these reviews, it is never shown where the fog light control is. I just bought a Z71 and every time I want my fog lights on and I have to go look for it. And why would they leave a switch for the dic brightness. This is a setting that most people set it and forget it. Oh and then we get a switch to roll down all the windows at the same time. But not a switch to open the rear sliding window that you can't reach from the front seat. Now that is stupid. And as far as the windows go, all you have to do is press the fronts express down first and hold the rears. Bamb all 4 windows down at the same time. Go figure. No need for another useless switch. How about finding the traction control switch. Oh yea, another buried feature. I don't know about anyone else that goes off road, but to me 4 wheel drive seems to work better when TC is turned off. Nothing worse than having your momentum shut down by losing power because of TC.

„For those who don’t like 4-cylinder engines: Why all this obsession with American V8 engines and massive torque? Do you really need a 8-liter V8 that drinks 30 liters per 100 km just to feel like you have something powerful under the hood? Think logically for a moment: is it worth spending a fortune on fuel just to impress for a few minutes? Take an example from those who choose smaller, efficient engines that let them drive every day without worrying about refueling every 200 km. I’d rather drive my car daily than take it out twice a week because it drains my wallet. How much longer will you keep feeding this illusion that a bigger engine equals more happiness?”
