I'm honestly okay if the DMG has a lot of stuff veteran DMs already know how to handle. The problem TTRPGs seem to have is a lack of GMs, so if new DMs have these resources, they're more likely to stick around. I wasn't expecting to get a lot out of this book (both because I've been running 5e for a while now and have been moving to PF anyways), but I'm glad to see it has a lot of resources for new DMs to use. It's a good direction for the book, in my opinion.

I agree!!!! This is also why they need to create a BECMI version for 5.24. A simplified version of the rules that is easy to learn and master, so the new DM can feel more confident of their knowledge of the rules and focus on being the narrator of a shared storytelling game.

@nickm91023 ай бұрын
Except it really doesn't. Prime example AL Tells DM that they are to interpret RAW so if WotC intended for a feature to work a certain way but that is not how they wrote it they are to follow the written interpretation. So the argument about Simulacrums can't cast simulacrum but the can cast wish to replicate Simulacrum may not be intended but is definitely written this way so still allowed in AL. Technically there is still a way to make yourself a different creature using clone and true Polymorph RAW. They also made true Polymorph a lot more complicated because RAW you can game the spell. Cast true Polymorph and make yourself a dragon tortoise, you gain 341 temp HP drop concentration immediately and you return to your form but RAW you don't lose temp HP by dropping the spell so you are now the toughest Wizard around.
@pheralanpathfinder48973 ай бұрын
The original rules said that the DM was the final arbiter. That wording should not have been removed because player should only have input, not final say. Far to many players are argumentative about rules interpretations, even when they aren't technically correct.

@@leifwennerstrom3886 I appreciate your response, but I’m still a little confused about how extending the rest times translated into the game being less heroic fantasy and more sword and sorcery. I thought the general consensus was that the rule has nothing to do with being “gritty” nor “realistic” and the name is just misleading, so I was surprised to see your opinion that goes against that. I’ve always personally believed the mechanics like Fear & Stress from Van Richten’s Guide to Ravenloft lent themselves more towards OSR vibes

For the items that store a spell, is there a particular level you have to be to craft those? I think back to artificer getting spell-storing items around level 11. Also, are there options to store them in other items (boots, rings, clothing, etc.), or is it just weapons/armor/staff? Either way, I'll probably have my eventual artificer utilize this quite often, since I like the idea of him always having a utility spell in his back pocket in a pinch. I was already going to do that with magic initiate and feather fall, since the one free cast is likely to be enough in a given day, if needed at all.

Minions are easy to make, really, just take a creature 1 or 2 CR below your party level, UP their AC to match the CR of your party, give them 1 HP and put lots of them in the encounter! You can even UP their AC by 1 or 2 points above the recomended CR for your party if you wanna get spicy, they'll be harder to hit but fall easily to area damage or controll spells. The idea is to keep them as close as hard to hit as the main threat, and with some damage potential to keep them scary, but faster to take down when hit. You can adjust as you need, give them resistance to control spells or evasion if you want them to survive area damage. The main point is to make your players feel intimidated by the raw numbers but rewarded when they land their strikes! You can go really crazy with minions.

That's all fine. No problems with them making a more user friendly or new player/DM friendly materials. The problem becomes when they say "It's new!" or "We've added..." They haven't actually created that much new. The issue is not with the content per se, it's with how it's being misrepresented to make them look like they did more than they actually did. If they just called it what it was, I really wouldn't have a problem.

So years of people begging we still don't get magic item prices. I bet sales will be terrible as they should.

5E 2024 player’s handbook is a product created for shareholders that flails around trying to justify its own existence. The few good things added were non-essential and could have been tucked into a new 2014 product or as supplement. I’m sure DMG is the same mix of padding, cringe and the odd good idea.

But you could easily conceive of it as "a new 2014 product or as supplement." And I suspect if they released a wholly new edition you would be trolling in the comments with "These new rules were cReATed foR SHarEhoLDERS."

If you're not interested in buying it the 2014 DMG hasn't gone anywhere. If 10 years isn't enough time for them to sell anything new then how long exactly should they be waiting?

Whilst I hate hasbro, I do think the actual designers for dnd have great passion for the game. The DMG seems to be far better than last from everything I have seen and heard. So i will probably get the dmg but not the players handbook

@@PsyrenXY It is the "new" there that is the issue. What is "new" about these books? They are just rehashes of what we already have closing a few loop holes while adding a bunch more in. I don't know anyone who argues the 2024 books are a better designed game than 2014. It's just more powercreep to make people buy copies of stuff they already have.

Here comes the part where we pretend that 5e was a perfect system that needs no changes 😂

Rules for VTT' ? Nope wasted use of space in the DMG, DM prep section sounds ok for new players not so much if you have the 2014 version already, section on dealing with bad players is comical (easy fix is kick the player or don't be a dick rule), whole section on absent player not needed, travel section sounds good, mental health section is comical, firearms, explosives and sci-fi weapons is for non-fantasy settings, Greyhawk sounds minimal but nice to get back that setting, crafting is weak (tools so), magic item costs typo already, magic weapon variety is something DM do already new DM, so good for No mention of the racist Mexican Orc art, so maybe it was removed
@quillogist28753 ай бұрын
The DMG needs to have all the base content and not rely on having to buy another book. So, you are going to get a lot of what is in the 2014 book.

Please explain to me why are advice about how to deal about common problems that may show up on your table not needed in a manual for dms? Considering how most dnd related forums are swarmed with people which ask for advice for similar situations there is clearly demand for this. Especially for new dms that may not even consider this kind of problems. Also how is the orc art racist because of the vague western inspiration grow up.

@@ΈκτοραςΕλευθεριάδης Sure for brand new DM's who have never played the game a single time and this is there 1 st ever game of D&D, yes the advice is fine, but we live in the world of the internet and so all the written advice is already out there. So you also don't think that Orcs, Hadozee and Drow are suppose to represent black people and you think it was not necessary to remove swap race for species. There is hope for you yet!

I would have dropped half of this for item costs.
