I’m a huge ram fan. But I’m also fond of the duramax. I appreciate the updates Chevy did here. I would have a hard time choosing now.

I just bought a brand new 2024 Silverado HD truck to cab 8 foot bed on the lot and they had it and I bought it didn’t have to wait. I took this thing out the first time and went up a huge hill and passed everybody like it was nothing. The Duramax has got my boat. Great engine been around for a while. You can’t go wrong with ones.

I had ordered a 23’ HC back in October. A month ago it got converted to a 2024, so I added the midnight edition package. No eta, not even scheduled yet. Maybe the midnight edition package is delaying it? Idk.

I know it’s not practical but the only true way to compare diesels is to pull a heavy load. They are entirely different animals with a load.

Exactly, my 2022 ram 2500 Cummins with only 14k miles tows once a month max. And the transmission already failed. Not even a year old.

Ram guy here who ordered a 24’ HC duramax midnight edition awhile ago. I’m told they’re waiting on the black rims before they can build them.

Unpopular opinion, big HP numbers are nice, but 99% of people aren’t gonna want to rev the piss out of their diesel to achieve that number. The engine won’t be happy (because it’s basically out of breath at that point) and neither will the driver. What you’ll really want to do is cruise all day at 1,500-2,000rpm’s making huge amounts of torque (thrust). That’s where the Ram excels. As long as the tranny and final drive are able to keep you in that sweet spot, while towing trailers and tackling big hills, the total number of gears isn’t quite as relevant.

I don’t know when I’m in the mountains doing 40 stuck behind a semi I want to be able to pass with confidence the v8 10 speed diesels put you in the right gear and give you that option

Mechanical Engineer here, I have been researching the Power Stoke, Duramax and the Cummins. Now I am leaning to the 2027 Ram 3500 Cummins with the ASIEN but I am going to give the 3500 Silverado Duramax a chance. I am going to rent both out for a week and do my own consumer reports. Then, I will make a decision. Why 2027? Because Cummins will introduce their new hydrogen engine. It is not electric, but it is cleaner burning, and more efficient (you get more HP and torque). I will probably get it 3-4 years used so for $50,000, I can get the Laramie 3500. I would probably stick with the SRT's unless you have to get the dallies. With the dallies, you bump into problems with street parking, U TURNS, and narrow windy mountain roads. They are really not the best for off roading but if you need to tow livestock or a heavy load, the image stabilization and balance is good. Here is the thing unless you are towing a BATTLE SHIP, you really don't need the DUALLIES. My friend is a COWBOY in the professional rodeo circuit. He has to tow horses so he needs the dallies. If you are not towing livestock then you are good to go with the SRT's, much smoother ride but get the 3500 because the AISEN is on par with the Allison transition, the 68RFE is garbage. From my friends who have the 2500, they always complain and it is not engineering sound transition. You can easily tow over 20,000 lbs with SRTs

The 68rfe is less than ideal for sure but I wouldn't say it's garbage. There's a ton of them out there doing work and doing just fine but the key is they're stock. It's designed to handle stock power but nothing more. It is a huge week link that I hope ram irons out cause otherwise it would really shine but I'm 110,000 in on a stock 68rfe on 37's no issues but I'm at stock power. They have plenty of power stock. As expensive as these engines and systems are any time you add power you're outside of what the system's designed for and asking for issues at some point, that's any maker. Ford and GM 10 speeds are popping left and right

Nice comparison review but on an honest note with them wanting more and more for these things the only thing they are doing is filling up these lots with them no one is buying these things they be wanting to much for these vehicle if they keep this up their gonna start having to make more difficult decision such as lower prices instead of shutting down production lines to keep prices the way they are

The new Duramax is just a different animal altogether, it’s technologically superior in every aspect. Cummings is supposedly updating their drivetrains for 2025 models, perhaps then you can offer a fair comparison.

Yeah ram needs to put a 8-10 speed in that 6.7L Cummins for an update because in acceleration it's fast it sounds good but not as fast as it's competitors they're like a HD tacoma type thing. High Outputs are still quick though.

They tested the 6 speed to the chevys 10 speed and the dodge somehow got better fuel economy and going down a mountain hill max load it didn't need a signal brake touch the exhaust brake and tow haul keep it at 50 mph down a mountain it was remarkable to be honest .

@@krisi.2011 well the fuel economy I can understand. The Cummins was always good on fuel don't get me wrong. I'm just all about get up and go on that paddle. It's not a bad diesel engine at all they just need to upgrade the horsepower and torque more. Its the same ole 6.7L Cummins that's never changed much.

Duramax exhaust brake is good not as hard of Ram because GM have a 10 speed tranny thats why if you down shift the truck it pulls back good

I dont know where you are getting your number but my ram 3500 2021 h.o towing capacity is 23000 lbs with 3.73 gear with my vin number

I just traded in my 2018 duramax with 300k miles and ZERO issues for a 24. The new duramax is phenomenal. Quicker and smoother than the ford or dodge. Also, that 300k 2018 is just as strong as the day I bought it. Diramax all the way. The higher horsepower is significant and the allegedly lower torque is nothing. I tow heavy.

We have a diesel shop and it seems like we work on cummins way more than duramax! However, just for how easy they are to work I would own a cummins all day long. The duramax does not hardly brake but they sure suck to work on!

I noticed in the separate Chevy video you used the Ram exterior exhaust start up and rev for the Chevy lol. Same in this one. But no big deal. Towing or not, the Duramax will beat the Cummins in every measurable test with the exception being exhaust brake. That’s more of an engine design thing though. The V8s will never be able to have as good of an exhaust brake as the I6. Nice review. Glad to hear someone saying the numbers on paper are one thing but real world is another.

Driving a vehicle around the block and calling that a test is ridiculous. What is the purpose of an exhaust brake? My answer is to maintain vehicle speed down grade’s especially while towing heavy loads. The quote “review” here is a joke. Want a more realistic review on these trucks look to TFL. I am done with this guy.

Both of these trucks beautiful when new, the power trains will outlast the trucks, lets see both of the with100k miles and see what has fallen apart. The tin worms will have a field day with both of them
