My TurTrucken from these three. RAM's straight 6 cummins (for the MPGs) RAM's rear leveling air suspension (no squat) RAM's auto exhaust brake (no downhill braking) GM's front independent suspension (smooth ride, no possible death wobble) GM's new interior (looks 10x better than Ford's plastic interiors and slightly out does Ram) GM's truck beds (because they were the first to have the bumper and side bed step, Ford copied them for 2024) Ford's cab size/interior space (you have all the room in the rear seats) Ford's power memory tilt/telescope steering wheel (GM and Ram need this in their HD trucks) Ford's door key pad (I use mine all the time) GM's or Ford's 10-speed transmission (for the MPGs and smoother ride under load) GM's or Ford's technology (these trucks are getting so big, so cameras and blind spots monitoring are nice to have)

whats the idea behind the keypads then? we dont have them in Europe, just keys that you can walk up to the vehicle and just get in. no need to press a remote button, or punch in a code to get in. we can (on suitably equipped vehicles) tap the handle to lock, twice to double/deadlock, then grab the handle and it unlocks automatically when the key fob is within a certain distance of the car. and in some parts of the world, (including parts of the UK where im from) id guess you would want to be able to walk up to the vehicle and get in as quickly as possible!

The benefit of the keypad is so you can lock your keys in the truck if you’re going to the pool, hiking, at a concert, or anywhere else you may misplace or damage the key fob. It still has touches entry/ exit. I’m a Ram guy and I love my Cummins engine so much! But I’d be happy if Ram added the key pad or maybe even a fingerprint scanner.

@@petelattimer6808 if you run outside or to your garage and forgot your keys or fob, if you memorize the key pad code, it's nice to have, instead of running back inside....or if you need someone to get something out of your vehicle over the phone and you are not there with the keys or fob, they can at least get what you or they need in the vehicle with the key pad. But my current Ford is so old, I don't know what it's like to unlock my vehicle with a phone app like some vehicles do now days. But I have liked having a key pad, but my next vehicle will not.

As a Ford enthusiast (and I own a 2020 F350 Powerstroke) I’ve gotta agree with Nathan that the Chevy has really improved the towing experience with their platform. Chevy was only seconds behind ford even with the exuberant 500/1200 numbers it has under the hood. Ford should have blown away Chevy but it didn’t. So it seems Chevy has really combined their horsepower, transmission and torque in perfect harmony to do more with less. I think I would say the 6.6 Chevy gasser also has some of these features you mentioned; tighter towing experience, stability and heat management to name a few over the 7.3 Ford Godzilla. Having owned an F250 with the 7.3 gas engine, I can attest to the MPG difference between the two also. Great discussion as usual guys!

I tow typically 6-8k with F150. I wouldn't get a F250 if I needed more payload and towing. I'd jump to the F350 because the 250's payload advantage over the 150 isn't that much.

The $250-500 difference between an F250 and F350, it makes the F250 a moot point. The F250s shiny spot is bumper towing over the F150. Gooseneck or 5th wheel towing is an F350/3500 SRW is the only real way to be safe with pin weight vs payload.

I’m looking at an f250 gas for my next truck. I don’t often town more than 10k lbs, but my f150 has been lacking in payload for some of my trips that I make.

If you're happy with the f150 powertrain, you could get one with the HDPP (heavy duty payload package) that has over 2500lbs of payload capacity in crew cab format or over 3k as a single cab. My 2019 f150 has the max tow package, but not the HDPP. It still has a payload capacity of 1950lbs, which is higher than some diesel 3/4 ton trucks. If you're referring to how much squat you're dealing with, adding air bags helps, especially if your truck doesn't have the max tow package or HDPP. My f150 squats only slightly more than my previous diesel f250 did. Both trucks were stock on stock tire size. My previous 4 trucks were all diesel pickups. After 4 years with my 3.5 ecoboost f150, I still don't miss the diesels, even when towing. It has more pulling power than the older diesels without the emissions garbage of the newer diesels.

I mentioned it before on this channel, but I have the HDPP, and max tow, on my 22 f-150, but I only found the truck because some other guy ordered it and decided not to wait. It's an XLT, double cab, 8 foot bed with the 5.0, and 2570 payload. It handles my 7K TT with no problem, but, if I were towing in the 10K range, I'd be more comfortable with the f-250 gasser if for no other reason than the bigger brakes.

Yeah the engine and transmission are top notch but Chevy and Ford have a 10 speed. Gas mileage, torque, horsepower, fuel economy and speed are all impacted by this. The Cummins name is just not enough for even the Ram fanboys. The market is just too competitive and I just can’t think of a reason why they don’t. @@logantcooper6

I've owned 13 Ram/Cummins trucks and one Ford F450 I currently drive. The Ford is the best truck I've ever owned. I wish I had a Cummins again but the Fiat/Peugeot has such horribly low quality I cannot ever own another. I didn't quit Ram, Fiat/Peugeot quit me. on edit: The 6.7 Powerstroke has come a LONG ways in quality and durability making it a valid option to Cummins especially in context of the awful "truck" the Cummins has to be put in.

Maintenance is expensive on a diesel 180.00 oil changes paid 300 for fuel filter in my 22 f350. I still think it is way better than my previous f150 and like some sometime else said even with 1700 payload on my f150 I was hitting that on a regular basis now I have 3500. I also like people get out of my way

Allison Transmissions has been a branch of GM since the late 1950's. I used to work on them .coupled to a GM 6-71 in the Euclid Haulage Trucks in the 60's.

38:15 My father had a 2013 RAM 2500 HD Cummins few years ago and went from Arkansas to South Dakota for Sturgis Bike Week towing a trailer of motorcycles. On his way back home in Nebraska his water pump blew and he was able to make it to a truck stop and they had the parts to fix it. So what you say here sounds accurate.

I have a 21 crew cab f250 diesel. Love the truck. I have it on 35 12.5x20s Nitto Terra grappler. Awful tire, horrible in the snow or anything else. Would love to come out and do some experiments to see what this truck could do with the right tire and find out what tires I need to get to make this truck useful. No lockers, electronic or otherwise, but this thing really won't move with anything slick under tthe tires, and I don't think any 4x4 should be this bad in 2023.

It has always been the axiom that the perfect heavy duty is a Ford with a Cummins and an Allison trans. With the new 10 spd just change it to a Fummins and you're golden.

The 6.7 power stroke has proven itself as a great reliable engine. My experience with Cummins in tractor trailers has turned me off from owning a Cummins.

I'd like to make a couple of points on your "which one is more American" argument. 1. The Ford engine is designed, engineered and manufactured in the US, therefore within the context of this argument it's definitely 100% American. 2. The Ford is designed, engineered and manufactured in the US, making it the only true American made truck of the three. And lastly (and most importantly) Ford is the only one of the three companies that is still 100% American owned.

With a diesel, the trim level won't change the MPG much. A couple hundred pounds isnt even 1% difference in the end. Best of breed? No its a 2011 chassis(updated along the way) and its the same 2011 cabin structure(new skin and interior), the Cummins? Lots of major issues in the last 2.5 years. Aisin transmission? Its a Toyota commercial transmission. There is not much to complain about other than 6 speed. Even if there was a 9/10spd behind the Cummins in the Ram it still would be behind the other two. The top end capability is not there. Hp is torque at speed(rpm). 420hp@2800rpm is 787lbft 470hp@2800rpm is 881lbft 475hp@2600rpm is 959lbft 500hp@2600rpm is 1,010lbft The torque output is what turns the drive shaft(doing the work). Clearly who can get the same work done(gross combined weight is the maximum load) at a faster rate. The comment about Ram being the slowest is irrelevant. Even if it was a 2wd regcab it would have lost by a long shot. The Ford limits the torque output to protect the components. The weight of the truck on the axle means it wont spin. IT HOPS, that and the amount of torque equals broken parts. That GM AWD isnt ALL WHEEL DRIVE. All it is, is the front axle disconnect is locked, and the output shaft of the transfer case is also connected, there is a clutch in the transfer case that can be ENGAGED quickly when there is wheel spin is detected. You guys just did a test 4auto Vs 2hi MPG loop. The 4auto was worse by a considerable margin. Because all of the added rotational mass and friction losses(driveshaft and bearings). Its all a very simple explanation, so many people cant seem to miss or completely ignore.

From my experience if you’re towing almost 7 days a week towing my tractor/implements approximately 15,000 pounds going from job to job daily I recommend dodge ram 3500 I’ve had the Dooley and I now have the single wheel short bed 3500 and by far it’s the best truck I’ve ever had for towing the air suspension on the rear is awesome especially on the newer model I’ve had the older models many of them, all the trucks on the market are good but I do feel that Dodge really is the best for heavy duty towing. This year they offer the truck with 373 gears I was concerned about that but really no difference from when they offered it with 410 gears, also if I’m careful on the highway I can get upwards between 17 and 20 miles per gallon when I’m not towing.

You guys didn’t really talke about the fact that the Chevy with 225 less pound feet of torque and 30 less horspower almost matched fords time on the hardest towers test in the world towing 30000 pounds. And the Chevy was almost 20 seconds faster from 35-60 than the ford

Yes, but I would bet that's due to how much torque and power the manufacturer let's you have in each gear. All these electronics etc make it hard to figure out. The symbol on the front of the truck doesn't add more torque lol. It's all about what they let you have. I'm pretty sure the Ford doesn't give you full power in the first 3 or 4 gears.

Instead of American made you should really specify North American to keep your northern viewers happy. The last big production plant GM closed was in Canada and was producing autos for the last 110 years continuously. It was a bitter pill to take given Canada's oversized domestic buyers market, especially in trucks even with a 35% exchange rate. I have a Ram 2500, and I can't go one block without seeing a heavy duty pickup in my mid-sized Southern Ontario city.

The Alison (branded) transmission is a cheapened version of the Ford 10R140. It wasn’t designed by GM, just some of the components were redesigned to be cheaper to produce. Search for the side by side tear down of both on KZbin. It is all shown and explained.

The Ford makes a lot more power than the GM. The heat management is completely different. The oil to water cooling(oil cooler and transmission cooler) is far more efficient than the air to air and oil to air of the competition. The trucks stops won't stock parts to repair a CUMMINS 6.7. There is NOTHING IN COMMON WITH the larger Cummins current engines(L9, X12 or X15) not any of the filters are close to being the same. So pull that idea out of your head. If you want to operate a Commercial vehicle. get a real commercial vehicle. Running a 6.6/6.7L diesel at 8mpg its whole life will net a life less than 600k miles. Your Comments about short bed lengths. Ford has had a 6'9"(6.75') since 1980. Only since the 1997 F150 has had a 6.5"(6'6") bed. The full air suspension on a semi truck, comes down to the damage to the road surface. It had nothing to do with comfort. That was just a pro of the system. They have made major strides in comfort and handling of semi trucks. I currently operate a motorcoach(3 axles and 8 air springs) it rides and handles better than every semi truck I have driven. The 1980s coaches still handle better than most of the newest trucks. I have a air spring set up on my f150 and F350 SRW that work on the same principal as a semi truck. I have a Height Control Valve(off of a KW) that is attached to the axle housing and detects suspension squat and adds air to return the truck to the set height. I have a pressure gauge(two needles, one for tank pressure and the other is suspension pressure), I have a max pressure indication line. I have weighed each rear axle, both empty and loaded at the GAWR(weighed at the ground on a CAT scale). So I don't have to think/worry about what I am carrying over my rear axle, it's a quick glance and I know where I stand. Remove the load and it vents the air(just like a semi truck) to return to normal. It maintains ride height(headlight aim) perfectly at all times. Just need to turn on a compressor(up fitter switch on F350/lower dash on F150) and it has a 80psi shutoff switch(and diverter valve). How can you title a video “Do You really need the expense of a HD Diesel Truck or will a gasser suffice” and never once talk about gas engines. You do realize that people choose to watch videos based on the titles and this is a subject I have some interest in. It’s also worth mentioning that the Chevy out ran the Ford on the Ike getting to speed. That tells me the Chevy is putting down a much higher percentage of its rated power over more of the range than the Ford is.
