The ISS brought us some amazing views of the 2024 eclipse, but Starlink might've been better!!

Friendly wave to all the Flat Earthers out there who will try to explain to us how this is not the shadow of the moon being cast upon the Earth.

way more so than I thought it would be, and I already thought it would be... was lucky to live in the path for the 2017 one... maybe one of the craziest things I've ever seen

It was absolutely mind-blowing to see that it became literally true Night. Twilight in every direction. The overcast began to vortex as they lost their last ounce of Opacity. Truly blessed that physics allows us to see through overcast at night. One of the most Serene moments ive ever seen. I never felt the wind so still, and the few birds that were still flying around came over roast by the humans. I think they relaxed seeing how calm and happy we were. I don't understand how modern people can get scared. It was so soothing

I was blessed to see three and a half minutes of totality with clear skies near Sherbrook, Quebec. I've seen hundreds of eclipse photos in my day and none do justice to the real thing. I'm still in awe. It was profound, nearly a spiritual experience.

A video on TwitterX, looking up to the sky after the total eclipse, shows one dark shadow, like the silouette of a big shark or orca flying over the clouds! Could this be the shadow of a satellite?

I suppose they might as well. They don't take much in the way of weight or volume nowadays, and there's a really good Internet connection handy.

If someone else would please look at the beginning of this video and note at the 06:00 mark and the 00:17 mark the area over the northeast portion of Florida and extending out over the Atlantic, to the east. Can you confirm a large rectangular area, outlined on it's right by two perpendicular white lines and on the left by cloud cover that is sharply perpendicular as well? I'd like to hear a prosaic explanation of the anomaly or just your opinion please. Thank you, Be kind and do good work.

There is no six minute mark on a video only 3:xx long. But at 17 seconds, see that straight line of clouds east-west out to sea and south of Jacksonville? That defines what the eye interprets as a rectangle. In reality, this time lapse is contrast-enhanced, meaning that very small differences in contrast are rendered more contrasty than it would appear to the naked eye. Where I live in DeLand, for instance we only had about a 57% blockage, but this vides makes the shadow much darker and it looks like I got really dark. Actually you could feel the difference in the Sun's heat but you couldn't see a difference in brightness. So you're seeing contrast enhanced video conspiring with a line of white clouds and your brain's training to recognize patterns.

@@RockinRobbins13 yeah I I literally trained to recognize patterns, BS Architecture. The area it covered was just so large it was mesmerizing to contemplate. And yes that should have been 00:06, the first pass.

...the moon is just about 2200 miles across. So why is the path of totality where I live only 108-122? How can a shadow be smaller than the object casting it? And no, reflected light doesn't matter. That won't shrink a shadow.

The REAL breathtaking view would have been from a low-flying airplane or paramotor looking down at the ground as a giant black shadow scoots across the landscape at over 2,000 miles per hour and then envelops the plane. Nobody did that this time, but Ben Yonker did that during the 2017 eclipse from his paramotor. It's positively the most awesome eclipse video I've ever seen: kzbin.info/www/bejne/l366np6ZbNSebJo. The footage from ISS gives a hint, but who would think the most breathtaking views of the eclipse could be from looking down?

Hi Angry. The Moon is exactly the right size and distance between the Earth and the Sun to cause perfect coronal eclipses. What are the odds? Impossible?
@rundmk00
@rundmk00 Ай бұрын
it is a hard to believe coincidence but the moon used to be closer and it is moving away from us constantly, so it won't always be this way
@Fraplu
@Fraplu Ай бұрын
it's not perfect, actually. the sun and moon do have incredibly similar angular diameters, though. the moon's distance from earth varies by ~20 thousand km, thus making it seem either larger or smaller (hence the existence of annular solar eclipses).
@marklee1462
@marklee1462 Ай бұрын
as others have said , moving away from us constantly, so it won't always be this way. So given that history of moving.. there will always be a period of time where the two match. we happen to live in that time.

Naw, this just tells us that the earth is a lot flatter than we thought. We gots us 11- 2/7's dimensions or there abouts. Who says one of them ain't the "flatness" dimension. Can't even tell you how close to China I got as a kid digging in the backyard. If it hadn't been for my mom yelling about the flower bed as the @ss-whuppins from my dad, I would have grown up a pirate in the south china sea. But there was too much shovel work. Oh well, flat planet, dead dreams of childhood. I guess i should be used to dissappointment by now, on this flat planet, with only 11-2/3's dimensions.
