With all the mental draining drama against him last months caused by the FIA and media and getting screwed this entire weekend as well, not having the fastest car (anymore), weather conditions on an insane level, himself calling the correct strategy on the pitstop, not making a single mistake while all other best drivers (Hamilton, Alonso, Lec, etc) going off left and right, fastest lap after lap after lap, overtaking the entire field while others barely can overtake 1 car the whole race, no teammate to help him, under pressure by the championship competitor getting closer and closer each weekend for months where if he would make 1 mistake he would lose the championship and... last but not least starting 17th to finish 1st winning by almost 20 seconds. One of the best, maybe even the best F1 drive ever.

1. We saw the best of Verstappen and the worst of Norris on Sunday. Max channelled his aggression in a very controlled way, Norris again showed his "fugue state" with decision making and then his "not talent just luck" comment was pure cringe. 2. Ferrari's lack of pace here was a talking point especially after them saying recently that "they had found a sweet spot maybe at around 90% of peak performance but gave the car lots of compliance and gave it a wide operating window" Also they said after qualifying they had a wet weather setup, strange ! ? 3. I have never been a big fan of these pseudo ground effect regulations and I think it showed its self in this race with a relative lack of overtaking despite the conditions (some of it was the new value added bumps) The issue I see is that these cars are very much one line now.
@formularobyn2 ай бұрын
Norris can be such an entitled little shit sometimes. It’s truly why I’ve lost respect for him this year. I HATE bad sportsmanship. Yeah not sure what happened with Ferrari this weekend. I mean Sainz failed because of lack of talent in the wet, but Charles was no where in the dry or the wet. I think these cars are good in dry weather but useless in wet conditions. Too much spray.
@dylanburston74532 ай бұрын
@@formularobyn Ferrari have a smaller turbo than everyone else, which gives max power faster, which is why they are so good at street tracks and out of slow corners. But i imagine that makes it harder to drive in the wet, as you are getting lots of power quicker when you want it more progressive. All the Ferrari powered cars struggled. Charles described it as digital after the race. (edit) Carlos was also sent out on used inters after the red flag

In a race where pretty much everyone else made some sort of mistake to take them of track Verstappen didnt and that was reallty impressive and overall it was a thoroughly impessive drive that shows why he is a 3 time world champion and will win the championship this year too. That being said, I am not as blow away about this race as others seem to be. For one, he didnt really start as p17, Albon never made it to the start, Sainz started from the pitlane and Stroll did as stroll does best and never made it to the start. So he effectivly started p14 whioch is still impressive, however Perez and Lawson were in front of him who was never going to and never did try to race him. Then the VSC happened, after which Ocon pulled away from him by several seconds in a couple of laps proving how big of an advantage being 1st was before the red flag. Then he caught Ocon of guard at the restart, which he did very well. Again a really impressive drive by Max, but I still dont think its right to say that he won from p17 on the grid.
@quentinhirschfeld93822 ай бұрын
Correction, he started P15 (but started on the P16 grid spot because Stroll only crashed in the formation lap), then he overtook 12 cars on track (Pérez didn't let him by, he just took a worse start and Lawson was actually trying to close the door when he realized Max went up the inside, albeit i tought he was letting him by) while setting the fastest lap (remember than he never went over 15 seconds away from the race lead despite battling and being in the spray). Of course, there was a luck component, but he and his team made the decision to stay out predicting that the race was going to be interrupted and he just tried to survive. The, last restart, surprised Ocon and pulled a 19 seconds gap with 17 consecutive fastest laps (record in the hybrid era), i think that says it all.

I thought Lando's "lucky not talent" was churlish. RBR (Max) and Alpine decided to stay out on used inters in the worst conditions. That was talent, and I don't think these 3 went off-track. Lando wanted to pit, while George wanted to stay out as he expected a red flag (overruled by Mercedes). Not a Max fan, but this was a masterclass, while Lando buckled. Seeing RB drop to 8th 😂. I couldn't be bothered to up at dawn for qualifying but I guess I missed out on something good there as well! As for the race, it was the chaotic race I expected, I'm glad they actually gave them a chance to go at it under the rain up until the Colapinto crash. I expected Max to make a comeback but I never expected a win, that was truly a championship drive with a hint of luck with the red flag but you saw what I saw as well, it was going red sooner or later with the amount of water! Incredibly happy for Alpine, I love seeing those surprise good results from smaller teams that would normally not have a chance to do as well. McLaren and Norris gave it a fair shot this year but I think the analysis others have made has shown that despite all the troubles RedBull had, they were never able to cut Max's lead as much as they could've. They'll definitely need to have a look at what they did and how to end where they end, it's all a learning experience in the end and who knows what the future will hold for them.

It’s tough to know if the race would have been red flagged without the crash. The weather cleared up fairly quickly after the red flag so I’m guessing the FIA was hoping to stay under safety car long enough for the weather to clear. I still think a crash was pretty inevitable tho.
