To much rain and to many cold nights are taking their toll on my garden this year. We need more sun during the day and warmer nights. We can only do so much and the rest is up to God and Mother Nature!

You can work and work and work, and in the end, it's all up to God and Mother Nature. We realized that last year after we worked all spring and summer, and then lost most of it to a hail storm. Keep fighting and keep praying! Cheers!

It seems like it's feast or famine with the rain, doesn't it, Rich? We have a lot of standing water down here, too. The corn and bean fields are now lakes. Steve is in charge of the garden this year, and it's doing well. We are traveling more and more now so we won't even have a garden next year. Give Holly a hug for me!

Your raised beds are killing it this year! We are in the middle of a glorious rain right now. Our entire livelihood was at risk if it didn’t rain. Maybe you need to grow rice this year? 😉 Your garden is set up so nicely Rich. Glad to hear the new job is going well. It is so hard to work and have a garden too. So many nights we are out there until dark. Take care. 🌺

I have been out until 10pm some nights. The dark doesn't drive me out, it's the bugs! I'm so glad you received the rain you prayed for. Our garden is a hobby. Your garden is your livelihood. Praying for more rain to head your way versus our way! Cheers Annette!

The rain has been something else this year. So we have lots of garden pests and weeds. But, I still think we will be able to get a great harvest. Your garden is beautiful ❤❤❤ Hopefully your peppers take off.

Congratulations on your job! Woven weed fabric is a good idea especially with being so limited in time. Hope the garden doesn’t get you down because it’s not like last years. It just takes a different perspective. Happy Gardening!

My big garden is nothing so far too. I’m seriously considered some tubs for carrots. If we didn’t have gophers, I’d use the weed fabric wherever possible. What a time saver!

We have now had rain, rain, rain. The garden is flooded and the plants are bathing in it. I'm going to try to move some plants to raised beds as I fear they will rot and die. It's unreal how much rain we've had. I wish we could figure out a gopher repellent and you could get weed fabric down. You'd love it. Go for the carrots in raised beds. They will do awesome! Cheers Lisa!

Hi Rich! I have a massive weed problem between my fabric rows and in my burn holes in my fabric and what I did this last winter to help me get a head start in spring was covered the open rows with tarps right before the snow covered everything. Held them down with varous things, rocks, pavers, staples.... Come spring, I pulled back the tarps and had nice clean fresh soil to go straight to amending and planting in and skipped the weeding. I took bits and peices of scrap garden fabric and put them in the burn holes and just used a garden staple in the middle to keep it in place. Worked so well! We have the same invasive runner grass like you and it seems impossible to get rid of.

I rent in Minneapolis, so my veggie garden ins in fabric garden bags. Seems like everything is very happy tomato plants are about 4' tall and flowering. Pepper plant is already popping out peppers. Watermelon and cantaloupe or slowly starting to spread as well. That being said, non of my seed starts survived so these are all try number 2 from farmers market starts.

Awesome job with the bags! You must be happy. I had really bad luck with my seeds this year too. Some things I planted three times. It must be the seeds that let us down! Keep me posted Dan! Cheers!

Last night i noticed that the second planting of cucumbers were submerged. 4 inches since Saturday night. I'm reluctant to grumble after all of the dry years. I've been pulling purslane whenever it's dry enough. Thanks for the update.

The rain has been crazy! I think you guys have been hammered even harder than us. Hopefully it evens out a bit through the next two months. We decided not to do an in ground garden this year. We’re taking the summer to amend our soil since it’s been so rough to start anyway and we’re doing a smaller container “garden”. Looking forward to seeing how yours looks next month!

Congrats on your job! It’s so hard balancing everything. The weather is all over the place. Been so cold and dry here with potential frost tonight. Everything looks amazing by you. The heat and humidity is so beneficial. We have been so cold this week. Only had one day so far at 81. Otherwise been 50’s and 60’s for the highs. Zucchini and yellow squash would do fine with holes through the weed cloth. They don’t need mounds. We stopped using mounds a few years ago and they grow well

Nice tour! You will get a lot of food and isn’t that the purpose!! Im in 6a and plant mostly in raised beds… a lot easier and more control but not as much volume.. we have 6 tall beds (36”); 5 (18” rectangular); and 2 (18” round) plus 7 Green stalk towers and a few grow bags… if we can grow enough for me to can or freeze dry- it will be worth it💕 keep growing- it doesn’t have to be very pretty… just productive💕

My garden is a lot smaller and mostly in raised beds and Greenstalks. I am starting a fruit guilds/food forest but that’s going slow. I need to plant my squash, melons and sweet potato slips. Do you think there is still time to start the squash and melon from seeds or is it better to buy plants now. I’m in White Bear Lake.

We don't have our squash and melons in the ground as it's under water. We're going to go for it. We've got three months of growing plus a few days in October. I'm going for it!!!
