Honda is a brilliant engineering company and not just in engineering vehicles but in other things as well. It's respect is well deserved.I'm sure they can or will in the future address all the cons and make this Honda Ridgeline even give the Toyota Tacoma a run for it's money if they really wanted to. Overall, it depends what you are looking for. Overall, despite it's cons, I think this is still a good truck but can be upgraded and improved on by Honda in future models and can and will be better in the future year models,.I feel. I love Hondas, and I still love my 2013 Honda crosstour as well.

I owned one and loved how smooth and simple it was. Naturally aspirated V6, great handling, super practical but uses a belt instead of chain so expensive repair at 100k.

Repair is cheaper than a trade in! Once every 100,000 miles is not expensive, or you couldn’t afford one, in the first place! I wrote out a check for my truck, so I’m sure I can afford to maintain it!

I’ve always been a big Honda fan owning an Accord and a Civic and I was really looking into the possibility of replacing my 1989 Toyota pickup for a Ridgeline. I waited a few years because I just didn’t like the way the 2017 looked but when they updated the look I believe in 2022 I really liked it. But like you brought up in the video by 2023 it was looking a bit outdated especially the interior. It looked too much like the Pilot. But what really got to me was the price, that’s when I decided I’ll just hold on to my old ‘89 Toyota extended cab pickup that’s never let me down and still going strong.

If I needed more than 5,000 pounds towing power, I would have the load delivered! If I did it regularly, I’d buy a bigger truck, one that I have trouble getting in and out of, for my whole family! I would never pick a truck, on the off chance, I might need a load delivered! I’m still loving my 2020 Sport Ridgeline! And, it still looks new! I really shine, at the Mall, and Doctors office! It depends on what you need a truck for, they all are designed for specific uses, get what you need, not what you can’t afford to use, or drive! I’m 1,500 miles away from rock climbing, but out my front door, from snowy roads! It’s great for that, plenty of height for the wife and kids to climb into and out of!

I have viewed many Honda Ridgeline videos and this one is the only one with a negative report. I don't see any downside to the current year model being up to date comparative to competition. I would like to know how you would compare to the Nissan Frontier.

It would be nice if they get rid of that shifter in the Console that’s a waste of space and put it up on the dash or go back to a column shifter, which works fine I might add. I have a Ridgeline does everything I want it to do. Pulls my trailers, ATV and what ever else I want to do. Everybody else is always talking about their real truck. I got news for you. It’s not a real truck unless you have air brakes on it.

Sorry my friend but I 100 percent like my console shifter. What space am I wasting ? There are more storage pockets than I ever had in any vehicle. Button seems very easy to damage or accidentally change.

If I'm not mistaken, I thought the Trailsport (which replaced the RTL-E) and the Black Edition still have that feature? Double check at a dealership or online (or simply call) and you may be surprised. 😉👌

I trade my 22 RTL in for my wife so she could get new 24 CRV-hybrid. I loved my Obsidian blue Ridgeline but not the grey interior nor the radio system. I am wondering if the new say sport model has all soft touch interior and seat material like my wife's car. I wish we didn't have to have a moon roof and don't like maintenance of rear end. I have a 23 Tacoma TRD OR now.

Good gas mileage? it gets 18/22. And thats not even towing anything. I'm lucky if I see 19 overall and I do equal highway/local. No way is that good mileage for what it is. I disagree on the styling as well, its simple and elegant without a bunch of hard angles like the others in class. For 99% of homeowners, this is the perfect truck as it will do almost anything necessary, even hauling sheets of plywood or sheetrock. Lets hope the new for '24 3.5l gets better mileage since its a pretty substantial redesign.

My complaints on my 2023 is the transmission shift point for ninth gear. I live on roads with 55mph speed limit and normally drive 60-62 and at that speed the truck never shifts into ninth gear…subsequently dropping the mpg due to higher rpm in eighth gear. It shifts into ninth at about 65 or 66 and actually gets a little better mpg at that speed and saves $ if you don’t factor in the speed tickets. I have asked three dealers about reprogramming the shift points and am told that it’s impossible? One service manager in Ames Iowa even told me they shift like that for the autobahn?? I told him I don’t live on the autobahn. Other than that and the horrible push button shifter along with wind noise at speed it’s a nice truck.

You may try using cruise control when you’re driving between 60-65 mph, I have a 23 Ridgeline and haven’t noticed any shifting issues, if throttle isn’t consistent i could see why it may stay in a lower gear

@@martyi398 The only way to get the truck to shift into ninth between 60-65 is to use the paddle shifter, cruise on or not the truck wants to shift back down to 8th. Only above 65 will it shift into ninth on its own and stay… unless climbing or passing. I believe the programming is wrong or there is a whacked out throttle/speed sensor? Dealership in Ames tried to tell me Hondas are designed to get same mileage in eighth or ninth, which like the autobahn comment is crazy if the engine is turning higher rpm’s in eighth. Last oil change I noticed that the rubber boot on the front engine mount looks like it is deteriorating from engine heat…I will likely trade before warranty runs out.

@@pjw1016 I also have a 2012 Honda Pilot with 150k miles with an older although similar drive train to the Ridgeline, I haven’t had any problems with engine mounts, I’ve heard a few folks that has had problems with the VCM system have premature engine mount failures, these engines typically don’t run real hot unless your doing heavy towing!

Honda transmission issues on those V6’s is a big issue. I’m going to wait until they have it figured out. They’re having problems with the 9 speed as well

The cons help make this video fair. But please, this is no more a truck than the Hyundai Santa Fe. It is good looking (old design or not), it can be used to haul some wood, bags etc,. but without a steel or full aluminum frame, it is NOT a truck. You do have some questionable statements in regard to how powerful the engine is. A 2023 Nissan Frontier has a 3.8L V6 with 310 HP 281 lb-ft torque and it is latidudinal since it is RWD/4x4 vs the Honda's transverse FWD/AWD so eaiser to work on for engine repairs. And attached to a Mercedes designed 9-speed trans. By the way, Turbochargers do NOT have instant torque, anyone one who has had one or understands how they work knows that. Turbochargers work off exhaust gas and the build up of exhaust gases for the turbo to effectively create the torque is approx. over 2000+ rpm. You're thinking about a supercharger that runs directly off the engine crank and does create instant torque. Fuel economy on all mid-size trucks are about the same....17/22 on a Frontier, but with an actual frame, bigger engine.... As you stated, want off-road performance, you need an actual four wheel system. It can be an auto 4x4 system like some have, or manual 4x4. Regardless you need a TC and the ability to switch into full time 4H and 4L and a rear locking differential is nice. Actually did learn it is over priced as heck. For the money maybe a Sante Fe is a better value; not sure. One thing, I SURE DO LOVE THAT BLUE YOU SHOW IN THIS VIDEO!

I drive from the inside of the truck, and really can’t see any Crome, or not! I got the truck I needed, not what the others think I needed! I paid cash, and that is really satisfying! Putting my money where my mouth is!
