Worked exactly as described. I hard wired my GPS into the bat. Didn't ride for a few weeks and bat was dead. After charging, engine light came on. Your procedure worked. Thanks so much. Subscribed.

Worked just like you said. I had my head in my arse! I put the bike on center stand and lubed the chain. After it sat for 1 hour decided to fire the bike up and put it in gear to sling off the excess while in Sport Mode. DON'T DO IT. Performed the procedure as written and all is good. Thank you!!!!

I had this exact problem twice and both times it cleared up on its own with normal riding eventually. Just FYI if you're wary of poking things with wires.

Really? I picked my bike up yesterday, toyed around with it in the yard to get a feel for it. Took it for a soft ride and the check engine light came on at about 25mph at about 2 miles on the bike. I ended up trying this trick and then the check engine light came on again. Should take it in the dealership or what, its brand new 7 miles on it, I don't want to ruin the bike but also don't want to trailer it back to the dealer. You're saying your check engine light went away after some normal riding???

I you take it in to the dealership. I was very sure why my check light came on and when I used this method to turn it off it did not come back. If you have not done anything to make the light come on, reset the light and it came back on, I would take it into the dealership just to be safe.

@@thefoggytrekker Do you know if it's true on the transalp as it is on the cb500x regarding the flashing check engine light? The flashes(long/short flashes) have a corresponding code which tells you why the light came one? Thanks

@@markray2496 I have not seen any info on that so I could not speak to it. I will say if you are not sure take the bike to a dealership, especially if it is still within warranty period.

I had my engine check light come on while installing honda heated grips. You have to enable the grips on the dash with the SCS tool inserted. I started testing the grips with the tool still in place and noticed the light was on. I switched off the ignition and removed the tool. The light didn't return. The SCS tool does the same job as your piece of wire, just in a fancy plug. I didn't buy the honda version as there are plenty of homemade items on eBay.

Shorting the two outputs on the diagnostic port simply puts the bike into setup mode, you need to do this when installing fog lights, heated grips, quickshifter etc, it will not damage the bike.

Yes, new to the Transalp and forgot that having a tracker fitted would run the battery flat. Video worked a treat and now on a trickle charge. You tube is great.

On the TRANSALP if the check engine light [ MIL ] stays on you can navigate the display to SERVICE then DTC and it should display any current trouble codes. Call the dealer with that code to identify witch component the code relates to or get your own service manual. the owners manual doesn't have a listing of all the codes. MIL = malfunction indicator lamp DTC = diagnostic trouble codes.

Yes that is correct some of the time. Not all check engine lights will trigger a code / error to appear in that display menu.
