The stranger within my gate, he may be true or kind, But he does not talk my talk - and I cannot feel his mind. I see the face and the eyes and the mouth, but not the soul behind. The men of my own stock, they may do ill or well, But they tell the lies I am wonted to, and they are used to the lies I tell. And we do not need interpreters when we go to buy and sell. The stranger within my gates, he may be evil or good, But I cannot tell what powers control - what reasons sway his mood; Nor when the gods of his far-off land shall repossess his blood. The men of my own stock, however bad they be, At least they hear the things I hear, and they see the things I see; And whatever I think of them and their likes, they think of the likes of me. This was my father’s belief, and this is also mine: Let the corn be all one sheaf, and the grapes be all one vine, ‘Ere our children’s teeth are set on edge by bitter bread and wine. - Kipling

While I appreciate intelligent conversation, I raise my eyebrows at opinions of REFORM and the perception of its aims and objectives. At least Rafe has the perspicacity to realise that it’s either ‘REFORM or nothing’. As for my own views, like most who now support REFORM, I simply want my country back, I’ve just had enough of ‘left’, ‘right’, ‘centre’, ‘labour’, ‘conservative’ and consider ‘libdem’, ‘green’ and other nonentities as dust under the feet. None of them have put our precious country as number one priority - none. I was born a few months before the inauguration of the NHS and, if ever there were a symbol of our nations deterioration in cohesion, efficiency and sense of purpose, the NHS stands as a beacon of ineptitude. I strongly suggest all of us vote REFORM from now on, at every opportunity, otherwise we are doomed. 👍🇬🇧👍🇮🇱👍🇬🇧👍🇮🇱👍🇬🇧👍

I have thus far always supported having a constitutional monarchy. Believing it has worked well in Britain, and preferring it over an elected head of state, someone who inevitably has party allegiances, which do not make for an unbiased outlook. However, i feel that Charles is looking increasingly out of touch with the prevailing mood of ordinary Brits, they being whom he must rely on for continuing support. He is far too in line with the establishment viewpoint on all sorts of issues, including immigration, and like them unwilling to acknowledge the rapid and disastrous changes that have occurred. And all happening without our consent. His latest Christmas speech merely proved this point, talking about unity in the face of division, while studiously avoiding any mention of what and who is mainly responsible for that disunity. No sense that he is standing up for British culture and values, or even the Christian religion, which is ironic seeing as he is head of the English church. Apparently he is completely unaware that mass immigration from those who do not share our culture and/or values, is leading to an ever more fractured society, while the ugly face of sectarianism is now commonplace in Britain. I am afraid that unless Charles changes his tune, and soon, the very existence of the Monarchy is under threat simply because us, the people, no longer feel it has any relevance.

@@christinerussell113 unfair. The Constitutional Monarch cannot comment on political issues and must represent all the people, not just those you approve of. Despite having cancer, he has carried out his duties with good grace and commitment. Hi visit to Southport was unifying. He is a good man, a good king.
@christinerussell11310 сағат бұрын
@williamsnowden8186 You say I write of "those I approve of. No, I refer to the majority of British people who expect their king to uphold the culture, values, and traditions, which our ancestors shed sweat, blood, and tears in order to achieve. Our values and way of life that are now threatened by an influx of individuals who, while enjoying the freedoms and benefits which this country offers, are often at best indifferent to our said culture and values, but at worse despise them and us. You then claim his visit to Southport was "unifying," really, to whom exactly?. Because the justified anger, which was sparked by yet another murderous attack on innocence, has not abated. Playing the so-called unity card is just another example of Brits being encouraged, while subjected to repeated attacks, to hold hands, wave candles aloft, and sing "don't look back in anger". That's until the next time, when we get to do the same all over again, hoping that tolerance in the face of intolerance and hatred will be enough to stop it happening. As for his continuing to work while dealing with serious illness, well as someone who has dealt with cancer 3 times, I can applaud his commitment to his job. But sorry, good man, he may be, but his naivety and refusal, just like our politicians, to face the reality of what is happening in this country will not save us, or his throne.
@williamsnowden818610 сағат бұрын
@christinerussell113 King Charles is not a politician. He was well received by everyone on his visit to Southport. He was applauded, in contrast to the Prime Minister. That is because, as the Constitutional Monarch, he must remain above the political fray. That is why he was, and is, a unifying presence. It may interest you to know that I have been publicly critical, and in print, of multiculturalism, which in practice is the antithesis of unity. I have been particularly critical of the Medina Surrahs, and was subsequently accused ( by an ill-informed, Methodist Minister) of "setting back race relations in Yorkshire by a decade." An absurd claim in itself, because Islam is not a race but a religion; and the Medina Surrahs, a radical ideology. So, I need no lectures on the need to confront unpalatable truths or engage in contentious issues. But the Constitutional Monarch must follow convention, and as a consequence, is often unfairly criticised by those who fail to recognize that circumscription.

@williamsnowden8186 Mr Snowden, I am well aware that the king is not a politician, indeed I pointed out in my original post that this is one reason why I support a Constitutional monarchy. Although Charles has in the past made some statements which were 'political' in content, unlike the late Queen. However, I also wrote of the need for him to maintain the support of the British people, that's if he hopes to see the continuation of his line. He, like you, appears unaware of how ordinary Brits are increasingly disillusioned by him, feeling that he does not fulfil his role as they expect. And that, as i said, Mr Snowden, is to uphold British culture and values, putting them above those of any foreign imports. Hardly unconstitutional. It is all very well trotting along to the scene of an outrageous attack on innocent children, offering sympathy, making soothing noises. But that does not address the issues at the heart of this, and that is the anger that such an event should have occurred yet again. Alongside the total failure of our governments to protect us from those who seek to attack our society, create chaos, and inflict harm upon us. Frankly, your attitude mirrors that of most of our politicians, and explains why mainstream political parties, the Conservatives certainly, are losing votes to newcomers. Parties who are prepared to address the situation, and do whatever is necessary to deal with it. We don't want tired old platitudes about unity, that has become a worthless notion when we see just how fractured our nation has become.

I dunno. My guess is that Labour will unite with the Islamic party. And if they can invite fifteen million more new Muslims in the next two years from abroad and house and feed them we will have a permanent Islamoleft party here forever.

The Conservatives have always been about the survival of the party, above all other considerations. It has been a flag of convenience for decades, but reached its nadir in the post-Brexit years, and Johnson's leadership in particular, implementing policies that were in direct opposition to a political view it claimed to represent. The proof of the pudding is former cabinet members speaking of those events as if they were nothing-to-do-with-me-mate (Gove, Rees-Mogg, Jenrick, et al). If not they, then who?
