Been driving my EV9 GT for almost 2 months now, over 1100 miles. I cannot say enough with how happy my family is. It really feels luxury, it is almost stupid how fast it is, and it does feel like they thought of everything. With the heavy doors (vs minivan sliding doors), my 5 year old took a couple trips to get used to using them, but now she does it on her own. My biggest 2 annoyances so far are that the rear windshield wiper doesn't do the whole rear window well and the massage seat is only for the driver (my kids love the heated captains chairs though). And if your biggest problem is a lack of massage seats for the passengers, that tells you how amazing the car is.

Kia makes a better car than tesla and that's not really that crazy when you consider how long they have been in business. The real reason you shouldn't buy a kia is that they sell your data to your insurance company. They sell your location data, acceleration, breaking, speed, what trips you've taken, where you been, etc. They track everything and sell it to your insurance. Your insurance will than take that data and jack up your insurance rates. @inc0de8 ай бұрын
@@KMCA779from a consumer standpoint the only purpose you should buy an EV is to save money or to gain functionality, the Sienna does both by lowering your initial cost and giving you more space and dependability. The EV9 has a higher floor giving everyone less legroom and headroom. It doesn’t have rear entertainment, it has less cargo space in the trunk, it’s $20k more meaning tax and insurance will be more too. There’s no practical or logical reason anyone would purchase an EV9 over a Sienna or any hybrid minivan or SUV for that matter. The years it would take to offset the initial cost in gas savings makes zero sense.
@rogerthat248 ай бұрын
@@inc0denot everyone thinks logically, especially with cars. For me, not having to go to gas stations is a huge plus for going to pure EV. The acceleration with EV is something you cannot get with a Sienna, not to mention the design. Design is subjective, but I'd take this EV9 over a Sienna any day.
@inc0de8 ай бұрын
@@rogerthat24MKB compares it to a minivan several times throughout the video, anyone that’s ever owned a minivan knows how versatile it is, especially compared to an SUV. Being able to open and close the second row sliding doors with a push of a button from the front row, far more spacious, more cargo room, and then add that I can get 550-600 miles per tank and refuel in under 5 minutes. If I drove 20k miles in a year, that’s roughly 166 minutes spent refueling which would be about 5-6 supercharging sessions. Nobody buys a minivan because of design or acceleration, and for some reason an EV minivan still doesn’t exist, but comparing the EV9 to one is very misleading especially when considering the EV9’s starting price is the fully loaded price of any ICE/PHEV. If he compared it to a Highlander, Mazda’s new CX90, Volvo’s XC90, or any other midsize SUV it would make more sense from a comparison standpoint.

Furthermore, as nice as the Kia EV9 looks, it's a non-starter for several reasons. First, it doesn't have sliding doors. Sliding doors are a must. Second, the rear storage space is too small. My 2007 Kia Sedona has way more rear storage space, and that is necessary when going on road trips. Finally, just six seats? Really? OK, sure, there is an option to have a third seat in the middle row, but no way, the 2+2+3 seating of my 2007 Kia Sedona is way better than the 2+2+2 or the 2+3+2 of the EV9. Yes, there's plastic and faux materials across the cabin, but nothing I touch ever feels cheap, and the highest touch items often actually have aluminum trim to keep the feel premium. Everything has weight and tightness to it, regardless of whether it's plastic or not. Kia isn't the brand it used to be, and hasn't been for almost half a decade now. asian cars aren't "inferior." I think that's self-serving western trope. They used to downtalk (that's putting it lightly) japanese cars and if anyone knows anything about japanese culture, they're a perfectionist culture with very high standards in everything they do, not just motor. It is well known that particularly japanese vehicles and now the korean vehicles, hugely outlast the luxury euro ones and are much cheaper to maintain. That's a win in and of itself. If it wasn't for asian motor entrants into the market, the euro and yank cars would have a duopoly and you would be paying through the roof. Asian car manufacturers have made vehicles a lot more affordable and accessible to the ordinary person. The chinese EV motor entrants are going to make EV cars even more affordable globally. I've heard great things about their offerings. Finally, nothing in life remains stationery and that includes car manufacturers. Car manufacturers evolve, they invest in R&D, they develop expertise, they learn lessons, etc. etc...

@@jarrellidk Minivans are usually much more efficient that trucks or SUVs that can carry similar amounts of people and stuff. Compared to a VW Golf? No. Compared to a Silverado? Yes

Kia has really stepped their game up in recent years. Is it top of the line everything? No, but it gets all the right stuff right and cuts cost where it's not a big deal and doesn't impact comfort or features. Our household is a Kia household (except for pickup trucks because they don't make those). Kia makes great comfortable, feature rich, and reasonably priced vehicles. Oh and their software game has been ahead of the curve for at least 5 years. +1 review!

I have a 2018 Soul that I feel has more features than a BMW lol, heated rear seats and steering wheel, Harmon Kardon stereo, panoramic sunroof, mood lighting on the speakers, dual power seats, leatherish dash, I mean those are features you gotta really pay for in other manufacturers. Plus if any of it breaks, I have the 100,000 mile warranty (powertrain and drivetrain).

Plot twist, we just picked up a Kia EV9 Land in Ice Green for my wife this past weekend and it's without a doubt the best family vehicle kid-hauler (we're a family of 5) we've ever owned. Highly recommend!

One thing a mini van has even over some of the biggest suvs is total interior space. Ended up moving cross country in one instead of the biggest suv I could rent. Held more stuff and had better gas mileage. Niche situation I know. But point is they do hold more

Kia and Hyundai both are in the groove right now. I saw an Ionic5 at the grocery store today and honestly it looked outstanding. The planes and angles of that car's styling are sharp - literally. To me it is evocative of my old '85 GTI in that repsect. The "Digital Teal" paint color also was very appealing to me. Now if only we had decent Kia/Hyundai dealerships here in Austin.

Well done video and exemplary explanation of all of the tremendous features found in this absolutely mind-blowing vehicle! I love my 2023 Kia Sportage PHEV! I drive all electric around town, and hybrid on the highway. Currently at an average of 74 eMPG and climbing for the cumulative mileage over the past 10 months. Some weeks I get 700+ eMPG. When I finally go full electric, I will seriously consider Kia. My Sportage is a total pleasure to drive, for all the reasons cited in your EV9 review. Thanks!

Saw one of those parked at a Costco last week and actually took a picture of it to send to some friends. It's a very nice, subtle yet somehow aggressive looking, family vehicle. I appreciate them putting the effort into the design and aesthetic over the typical Tesla they all look the exact same for the last 10 years, is it a 2014 or a 2024 it's anybody's guess, styling.

Thanks so much for this video I was in Busan, South Korea back in the fall and saw many Kia and Hyundai EVs driving around the city.I like the style of the EV9 and from your review and others I have read I think this will be a very good value for someone who has kids to transport around.My daughter just bought a hybrid Siena 2024 minivan she would have been smart to look at this vehicle but she is not an EV fan like me she has driven both Teslas that I have owned .She is not a car or tech person like I am.I appreciate the discussion of the tech in this vehicle because I have been wondering about it most reviewers just talk about the way it drives not so much the technology.

I would def look into KIA again for my next SUV.

As a minivan driver, this aint it. Minivans have a flat floor from front to back, seats that fold into the floor (or remove altogether) to allow a 4'x8' sheet of plywood or drywall to lay flat with the rear gate closed, sliding doors that allow for a bigger opening without needing so much clearance between the car next to you, and they still have more 3rd row legroom AND storage room behind the 3rd row. Also, the floor height is lower (better) so they: are easier to get people and big items in and out of, allow for taller items to fit and people to stand more upright when moving around, and it lowers the cg to noticably improve handling and driving characteristics. Say what you will about the look, but people are fooling themselves when they pick a 3 row SUV and think it has similar utility as a minivan.

I love the second row captain's chair option. That was my biggest problem with the R1S: You had to pull a seat forward in order to get a kid into the third row. By definition, the person who'd be comfortable in the way back was too small to do that themselves. This looks perfect for a family of 5 or 6.

Its missing something that will forever keep it from being a minivan, sliding side doors. That is the #1 feature of my minivan that I would never give up.

EV9 is great! In Norway atleast you can get the second row swivel seats, but then you have to get the manual adjustments for the second row, sacrificing the electric adjustment. They cost the same also so it's pick and choose.

As a 2023 Kia Soul EV driver here in Canada, having traded in my 2015 Kia Soul ICE car, there's NOTHING wrong with Kia. I love the Soul EV, I know it's not sold in the U.S. which makes it even more awesome but it's affordable and fully electric and gets me 450km in range (330km range in winter), more than enough for my needs. Also having weather forecast in the car's navigation is helpful when deciding whether or not to pay for a car wash or wait until there's multiple days of dry weather before dropping almost $20 on a car wash. And since most places in Canada require hands-free with cellphones in the car, having that app on the car's infotainment screen is very helpful.

1. Man, you really dissed the Kia brand. Lol. They are a leader in SUVs, a leader in design, and a leader in legacy-brand EVs. They've come a long way. 2. It has everything a minivan has --- minus sliding doors. 3. I'd say it is good, not surprisingly. Kia is killing it in SUVs and EVs. I'm also really looking forward to the EV5 and EV3 SUVs.

One of the biggest appeals of a minivan to me is the automatic sliding doors for passengers. So easy to sit the kids in the car without worrying about managing the door in a tight parking lot. When an SUV has that, I’ll consider it.
@JohnCornellier8 ай бұрын
An SUV will never have that because then it wouldn't be an SUV and would be subject to the minivan haters.

Most minivan people love the sliding door for convenience with kids. This doesn't look much different than a Telluride or Palisade on the inside, which is ok because those are both great. Maybe slightly more trunk space with the third row up, but otherwise not much difference.

Key feature of the minivan is the doors that dont swing out. Really nice for not worrying your kids are going to slam the door open into someone else's car in a parking lot or something in your garage. IMO thats why i like the carnival.

I have a R1S and think it has significantly more cargo space, the frunk is almost triple of that and that’s is huge to me. Also you did talk about cameras, does the EV9 have the camera system all around and the ability to record? What about security system? I love the Rivians ability to be a multi tool and go off road with immense amount of ground clearance to low with the air suspension (we use it all the time) as well as kneeling when we get out of the car, i love the ability to not have to have a key, no start button it’s just on, and the pet mode and gear guard, there’s quite a bit you didn’t mention if your really comparing to those models that are 10-15k more… but good info!
