For the latest Kia EV9 pricing and information:
www.kbb.com/Ki...
The Kia EV9 is a big deal being the first non luxury 3-row electric SUV coming to the U.S. market for seating up to 7 passengers, and it moves Kia towards their commitment to become a future leader in sustainable mobility and their goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2045.
From the look of the EV9, the future is NOW. It rides on Kia’s E-GMP platform and utilizes Kia’s fourth generation battery technology. Its boxy shape, big wheels, short overhangs, and 7.8 inches of ground clearance give it a brawny look, and the vertical tail lights and digital pattern lighting on the tiger nose grille give it some sci-fi vibes.
The EV9’s wheelbase is 7.87 inches longer than the Telluride’s which should translate to some good interior space for occupants. Despite its blockish appearance, the EV9 has a drag coefficient of just 0.28 which is achieved through a 3D sculpted underbody cover, air curtains integrated into the front bumper, and aerodynamic wheels.
The EV9 will be offered in rear wheel or all wheel drive. A standard and long range RWD model will be offered with a 76.1 or 99.8 kWh battery and will have 215 and 201 hp respectively. No, that’s not a typo, the model with the bigger battery gets less power but that long range battery is good for up to 300 miles of driving while the smaller standard RWD battery only gets up to 223 miles of range. The Long Range AWD model has the same 99.8 kWh battery with a dual motor setup that delivers 379 horsepower, and 443 lb-ft of max torque. That’ll get the EV9 to sprint from 0-60 in around 5.3 seconds and will have about 270 miles of range. The AWD GT-line model get’s a bump in torque and will have 516 lb-ft.
The EV9 will have fast-charging capabilities of up to 218 kW, and 15 minutes of charging can provide up to 148 additional miles, and that fast charge capability can get a 10-80% state of charge in around 25 minutes.
If there’s no where to go while charging, you can position the seats in relaxation mode so you can sit back, relax, and watch all the KBB videos you desire. The EV9 will also have an integrated Charging Control Unit which includes vehicle to load functionality. This lets customers use up to 3.68 kW of power from the EV9 to power things from laptops to electric grills.
As heavy as the EV9 is, it still has some fun potential as if you were driving a high powered Kia Telluride which is great. If you’re looking to tow with your EV SUV, the max tow rating for the AWD models is 5,000 lbs and for RWD it’s 2,000 lbs.
Some standard safety tech on the EV9 will include forward collision avoidance assist, blind spot warning, lane following assist, and Highway Driving Assist.
The North American debut of the EV9 will have available advanced Highway Driving Pilot which will support level 3 autonomous driving that will use 15 sensors, including 2 LiDars, and this will give the EV9 a full 360 degree field of view for obstacle and collision avoidance. Keep in mind this system only supports level 3 autonomous driving, but still needs to be approved by the U.S. government.
Driving is important but what about the inside? Well, the interior of the EV9 looks and feels great, ingress is easy with wide opening doors, plus there’s plenty of space. Kia’s pledge for sustainability is shown through their use of recycled, bio and sustainable materials throughout the cabin, and the thoughtful use of space and flat floors which is made possible thanks to that longer wheelbase and low mounted battery pack.
Along with comfortable seats, there’s also a massage function which could help for those long hauls. There are various storage spots around the cabin, a wireless charger, 12 inch digital gauge cluster and 12 inch infotainment screen, but there’s no available wireless apple CarPlay and Android Auto. However, charging won’t be an issue because all 3 rows have USB-C charging outlets. As far as cargo, behind the 3rd row there’s 20.2 cu-ft of space, and with the 2nd and 3rd row folded, cargo volume increases to 81.9 cu-ft. If you’re curious, there is a frunk.
There's no exact trim breakdown yet, but great options like 21 inch wheels, 360 degree camera, remote smart park assist, panoramic roof, Meridian sound system, head-up display, and 2nd row captain's chairs will be available options. The EV9 is expected to debut in the states towards the end of 2023, and will be the first Kia EV to be assembled locally in West Point, Georgia at the beginning of 2024.

@@Brian-jv8iyare you looking at the right reviews and testing? Both of those cars have great quality inside and reliability. Coming from someone that worked with multiple car dealerships and went to see who actually bought cars into service, those cars have normal service issues, meaning OL, ROT, Fluids and normal checking. Maybe a battery died here and there but those car are built well and if anyone were to buy them you can definitely get 150k+ miles with normal overtime issues such as maybe the water pump failing, brake changes, battery changes. Literally the small stuff that is normal not oh my transmission is violently jerking because it's about to fail or oh my ignition coils are failing because too much oil pressure from the engine which can also lead to other major issues such as burning oil and potentially leaks. These things are nowhere near common on those cars.

Weight doesn't affect range and consumption as much in an EV as it does in an ICE car, because an EV can recoup most of the energy when stopping. A bigger factor is aero, especially at highway speeds.

@@daveromanyshyn1170 Yes, many factors affect range like powertrain, weather, speed, elevation gain/loss, etc. That being said, at a certain point the size of the battery (or available range) becomes less important and charging becomes the priority. With the Hyundai and Kia EVs, they charge really fast. In some areas of the country there are many fast chargers. In other areas not so much. That is where the improvement needs to happen, not so much with 300ish miles of range and fast charging speeds of up to 240 kW, that is sufficient for most drivers.

These are beautiful vehicles, but I won't be buying an EV until solid state batteries are the norm. I need an EV that can travel at least 500 miles and be reasonably priced around $40,000 so in other words, another 5-10 years from now.

I think the haptic buttons needing more force makes sense, in many cars it is too easy to accidentally hit and change the wrong stuff trying to feel your way to the right button.

True, but can be distracting when driving and the screen won’t turn back to navigation and your turn is coming up in 100 feet. I think it would be great to have the option to adjust sensitivity, then you can please everyone!

@@yesmikedanger Oh no! Gawd forbid that you can't get back to navigation and your turn is coming up! 🤣You'll have to do like us with our old cars from the turn of the 21st century 😂 We are relying too much on technology, which worries me sometimes.

Hopefully they integrate solid state batteries soon! Current battery setups are inefficient and costly.

@@al151 yeah that is a factor but after owning a Truck with 320 miles of range 300 is not enough When you add cold temperatures and highway driving will drop the range down to around 180 to 200 and that is no bueno

It's definitely nice. It makes sense that someone would bring a large three-row EV SUV to market. I'm sure lots of people will buy it without thinking too much about use cases that maximize the value of owning a large vehicle that focuses on interior space and passenger comfort. I would want the large size for road tripping, and the facts are that it is a downgrade from ICE and hybrid in terms of range, re-fueling time, and price - but my opinion doesn't consider any cost savings in terms of fuel and maintenance. I am skeptical about savings on both because electric rates aren't going to go down and the intricate technology becoming more common in value brands has its own failure risks.

I agree with your train of thought in general. The towing rating of 5,000 pounds doesn't really matter when you can't go more than ~120 miles towing a full load. But for some people that may check all the boxes. But who knows-- I really need to buy my first EV so I can run it through the paces and formulate my own reality-based opinion. I spend a lot of time camping and exploring, so range is one of the most important things to me, so I'll likely wait for one of the EV trucks/SUV's that's pushing up into the 400-500 mile range (and something with an NACS port).
@eedre4864
@eedre4864 Жыл бұрын
@@Kee_Diddy I have a truck currently and it's so clutch with towing and hauling stuff. EV's aren't there on trucks. The F-150 Lightning is laughable on range and price. The Rivian R1T is laughable on price and truck-like utility. If I was forced to buy an EV, I would buy a Chevy Bolt EUV before Chevy stops making them. Good amount of room inside for four passengers, nice cargo area, 240-ish miles of range (call it 150 miles in winter with an 80% charge). It doesn't have the longer range or fast charging you see on newer stuff, but it also doesn't have the price tag that goes along with that crap, and I would not use it to road trip, so 150 miles is plenty on a daily basis.

I am a South Korean and had the opportunity to test drive the EV9. In my opinion, this car is overpriced, and the ride comfort is not as good as that of the Model Y because of the lack of air suspension. The car is very heavy, and the springs don't absorb all the vibrations, so the ride feels rough like riding a Jeep. Also, the power of 200hp is too weak for the weight of the car. The good thing is that it has a huge interior space and three rows of seats that even adults can ride. Thanks to the boxy shape, even those sitting in the third row can ride comfortably if you are not taller than 180cm (5"11). Also, compared to the price and size, the driving range is extremely long, so there is no competitor other than Tesla. V2L, the household outlets inside the car is also really convenient
