I'm looking at getting a Marlin 5 Gen 2 soon and I prefer the 2x system for the front, but I heard Gen 3 is coming soon. Would there be any advantage to buying a Gen 3 instead and possibly converting it to 2x, or would that even be reasonable? Thinking Gen 2 might be the way to go

I just bought the gen 3. It is faster on pavement than advertised. The gears shift smooth and love the 1x. Go with the newer one.

Bro, you will laugh, I manahed to get this bike from my local bike shop just today, the problem is that I cannot test it properly as it is winter in my country right now... And I was thinking og getting Marlin 6 Gen 3 2023, but shop assistant made me reconsider and choose Marlin 5 2024 instead. I liked the frame colour, the seat was much better + he said that on the new Marlin 2024 I would be able to change rear cassete easier than on Marlin 2023, as there is a new system in there, so I would just need to change the cassete and front shifters. P.s. They had a deal so I managed to get Marlin 5 2024 100 eur cheper than Marlin 6 2024. Still don't know if I made a good or bad choice XD

I think a good choice the new Shimano Cues system is better for compatibility then the old system

@@goodluckchrisclark I'm a bit confused when it comes to the gears. the higher and lower gears. I have a trek marlin 5 gen 3 and the gears go lower at the higher numbers and higher at the lower numbers ???

I just bought mine at the bike shop today but they had to order a bigger frame for me I should have it by the end of next week

Its shimano cues so change the prowheel crank to cues 40.00 dollars for sqaute taper 30 tooth or shimano cues 30 tooth rwgular round spindle but that is giong to set u back 60.00 dollars
