Great review. Not mentioned: you can go into the settings on both cars and make the screen touchscreen for Apple Carplay and Android Auto when you are on the move as well. You can override the factory settings on either model in that situation.

I was going to get a CX-50. But when the decision making time really came down, I realized that the only thing I liked about the 50 over the 5 was its looks. The 5 is more compact, which works for me - though maybe not for others. It also has an independent rear suspension. While these issues aren't huge, when it came to purchase time I thought "Why get a vehicle size I don't need with a less desirable rear suspension just because I think the vehicle looks a bit better?"
@OmarZ778 ай бұрын
Yeah the size of the CX-5 is perfect. It’s a main reason I stayed away from the CR-V, RAV4, and CX-50. They’re just too big and that affects maneuverability.

@@OmarZ77 Exactly my reasoning. Now, I DO understand that some people need the additional room. But I don't. And I'm the kind of person that doesn't like to oversize his vehicle for some theoretical use it's never going to actually see.

Agree on size, IRS & Japan… but, If only CX-5 had a more updated center console like the CX-50… CX-5 cupholder placement is awkward for using the dial controls… And, while the screen is updated now, you still get the older dial controls. Also, if they could drop the Toyota hybrid system in the CX-5, like they’re doing with the CX-50!

The CX 5 is a present day classic and stands alone. We bought the 2024 base model “S Select” in Rhodium White. It has all the options we needed. It’s not for everyone. It doesn’t compete with other compact SUV’s in many ways but those SUV’s can’t be what the CX5 is. What is it? It’s quiet, refined, has an upscale interior with high quality materials and gives you a very enjoyable personal driving experience. I love it for all the things it is and for the many things it isn’t, one of which is “mainstream.”

I bought CX50 GT turbo over CX5 Sport Design reason (1. gloss black bumpers. beauty but imagine little rocks scratching in my hiking trips) 2. CX50 has more space and less claustrofobic, 3. more usable space in the trunk, 4. CX50 Less body rolling (firm), 5. Wagon Style for me it's bonus not a SUV not a Wagon lol. 6. CX50 Front appearence (CX5 appears a more dated design).. The only negative of CX50 it's the rear suspension it's torsion but beeing honest CX50 is super handling and I didn't have any problem or complain running faster in small roads..

Side by side the CX50 definitely looks better. I thinks it’s the wider platform which improves the entire lines. The panoramic roofs are also incredibly nice and create an open atmosphere.
@cbeech163111 ай бұрын
Outstanding review. I am wondering how that panoramic sun roof in the CX-50 will hold up in the long run as far as leaks etc. Something for your viewers to consider as a huge bonus is that Mazda does NOT have CVT's but rather a reliable automatic transmission. I think the the CX-5 is a little bit lighter so may have more giddy up with the same engine - correct me if I am wrong.
@eleanormassaro519511 ай бұрын
I was wondering about that too since the CX five weighs a little less than the CX 50. I have a nonturbo premium plus CX 50. I’ve had it for just a little over a year with 14,500 miles now I will say the panoramic sunroof has no rattles or leaks so far. I am taking it in to have it checked because when the sunroof is open I have a small rattle coming from somewhere up there when the sunroof is open.

Do you like the way the CX 50 drives? I have not test driven either one but I am thinking I might like the CX 5 for the acceleration and the divers seat is a little higher. Also easier to get around parking lots and other tight spots.

I think most things have gone away from such old tech in favor of tech like phone since everyone will typically have that instead of the discontinued ipods. You might be able to google it, but I'd lean into using your phone instead with added benefits of being able to answer phone calls and tect messages on the go as well as have a more robust library on the phone.

Usless comparison reveiw. Spent more time describing useless trim features and never spoke about the actual machine. the real question is why is mazda selling a nearly identical car side by side? Is the 50 going to replace the 5? Do they drive differently? Is one better than the other? Or is it just about what color the stitching is inside the car. Hmm, I wonder how many idiots are just lost witout the red stitching in the seats? Howmany buyers have been waiting years and years for the fabulous stitching to become available befor buying a car. This comparison is a fail. It is one thing to prefer one over the other for astetics, but that is a trim level dicussion not a real vehicle comparison. My worst experience with sale people is when they are so confused as to beleive I have shown up at the dealership looking to buy a sterio instead of a car. this is that guy.

I prefer the smaller, sleeker CX-30 to both of them & bought that instead in 2022 (plus, no awful & likely problematic at some point start/stop or cylinder-deactivation system on the 2022 CX-30). Not enough good smaller vehicles in the U.S. market to choose from, compared to most other global markets. If I had to choose between the CX-5 & CX-50, I would go CX-5. The Styling or the CX-50 just looks off to me (too squared/clunky looking, those big tacky front/rear vent cutouts look ridiculous, the cheap-looking silver rear diffuser-accent paste-on, oversized wheels & tires with little sidewall (harsher ride), etc.).

Disagree with the tech in the CX50. The limited touch screen is extremely small (especially compared to EVs), and the tech is at least a generation behind. For example, the analogue gauges, legacy USB A and center console mounted bag shifter. All of which have been updated in most of its rival (bag shifter on RAV4 excepted). It would have been great 10 years ago. On the plus side, I like the wheels on the CX-50, and the tactile button and switches look solid and premium. The material don't look cheap, and as small as the infotainment display is, its a better integration than a lot of its newer rivals that use the tacked-on iPad aftermarket design.
