Gentlemen, greetings from Florida. Two weeks ago (November 28, 2022) I leased my fourth Mazda, a 2023 CX-50 Preferred Plus, Soul Red Crystal Metallic (my three previous Mazdas were also this color). This replaced my 2020 CX-5 FWD Touring ,which had previously replaced my 2018 CX-5 AWD Touring, which had replaced my 2016 Mazda3 hatchback Touring 2.0. All of these are non-turbo, yet I find that they have plenty of power for acceleration and passing. You just have to be willing to mash the accelerator, and also to remember to use the MiDrive mode select to Sport mode (like you had your test car in this video - the red highlights on the dash gives it away). As for comparing the CX-5 and CX-50, there are some differences, but I'm getting used to them. I don't find the change is suspension is bad, I do like the longer interior space, and I have no problem with headroom (I'm 5'11"). I also love the steering and handling in the CX-50. As for the seats, I did notice something. Before deciding to lease the CX-50 Preferred Plus, I took a test drive in the CX-50 Premium Plus. The seats are different between the two trims, with the Preferred Plus having a combination cloth/leather (half leatherette trimmed), while the Premium Plus has leather trimmed seats. I found that the seats in the Premium Plus were not as comfortable as in the Preferred Plus. There was just something wrong in how my rear end felt in the seats in the Premium Plus, which I don't find in my Preferred Plus.

Just bought a used CX-5 mainly as as I was pleasantly suprised how well it drives, especially for a crossover. This highlights something I obverve in myself -- car enthusiasts seem to exist on a continuum. One one extreme, are people who are way more interested in the car itself. Imagine the boomer Corvette owner stereotype -- someone who loves the car, but really doesn't drive it that hard (or that much). On the other extreme, are driving enthusiasts, who care a lot more about the art of driving -- whether it's slowly and smoothly or as quickly as possible. They like the challenge of getting the most out of whatever they are driving. I think Mazdas as a whole all care about driving enthusiasts, even when it's a crossover, which is why I've owned more Mazdas than any other marque. That used to be true of German cars too, but that ere seems to be coming to a close. If you are primarily a car enthusiast, giving the CX-50 excellent steering makes no sense as no "performance" driver wants a crossover. But, if you are primarily a driving enthusiast, it makes perfect sense as it allows you to get the most out of the vehicle no matter how you are driving it. I love my CX-5, but I'm closer to the driving enthusiast end of the spectrum! I don't care that it's a mom-mobile -- I just love how it goes, stops and steers.

In the old days, when the steering had weight and feel, you could actually feel the grip going away when the steering became lighter. This was very apparent in snow. Even driving slowly in the snow you could feel the steering was lighter. Light fake, disconnected steering is awful. Thanks for the review guys!

I got a CX-50 the week they launched in the US. It’s my favourite car by a long shot. Coming from a Model 3 in Australia - Mazdas quality, refinement and much better looks is so appreciated. Plus I reckon that Bose system is better than good. Crank that system up and it’s even and controlled at high volumes, no rattle, no distortion. Tech is what it needs to be at this stage - I’ve not been in a non-luxury car that does digital systems particularly well - id rather opt for function and reliability over flashy tech that doesn’t work all the time. Overall - brilliant car. However I do wish their lane centering was better and low speeds and available at above 40mph…

I've owned about 40 cars in the last 4 years. I love the CX50. Let's be real, this drives well. It's very practical. This is a good competitor to the Outback. I hear tiny nitpicking. Realistically, for 50 grand, this rocks. I find the interior very pleasing. It's devoid of nonsense. I'm a practical person. I prefer well made, reliable cars. They claim it's worse suspension. It's more reliable than a complicated multilink on dirt roads. If you compare it to a live axle, it's way better handling. I think these two are acting a bit spoiled and missed the point here. I just sold Pacific Mazda my 100th anniversary MX5 GT RF, I'll get another, likely NE or Nissan Z manual.

I wonder, from a control standpoint, if having firmer steering like this makes it a better car during emergency situations. I've seen so many SUVs in emergency situations where the drive panics and/or over-corrects and it creates a really bad situation, many times resulting in rollover or cars going way out of control. I get it that it's hard to live with day to day, as I had the similar situation with my X3 M40i. But it seems to be better suited for SUV drivers from a control standpoint. It forces two hands on the wheel, even during highway driving.

LOL, I daily a 2019 CX-5, and the independent rear suspension and 40/20/40 rear seat (which I have actually used on occasion) is exactly the hill upon which I'm willing to die in defending my CX-5 against the CX-50 😁. Honestly, I do really like the CX-50, and had it been available when I bought my CX-5, I could have probably been swayed towards it. BUT, as a CX-5 owner, I don't really see it as enough of an upgrade to make it worthwhile to trade in my CX-5 for a CX-50. If Mazda releases a new compact/midsize CUV with an inline-6 and rear-drive layout, though, that would probably be enough to sway me to switch. I don't want it to be CX-9 sized, though. I'm content with a smaller 5-seater.

@chrisgleeton68232 жыл бұрын
@@differencemaker242 Hi, not a chance. Mazda has dropped the V6. They make the hood long in their recent vehicles so that they can install a 4-2-1 exhaust header on the back of the engine to help scavenge hot exhaust gases, which allows them to run high compression ratios in the 2.0L and 2.5L without needing high octane fuel. They've stated that their upcoming drivetrain will be longitudinal I6 with rear-drive layout and a hybrid system. Obviously due to its longitudinal orientation, it won't fit in any of Mazda's current platforms, so look for a brand new vehicle platform in which it shall sit. 🙂
