The 2024 Mazda CX-90 Signature (as tested $66,078 in Canada, $61,920 in the US (Turbo S Premium Plus)) has some very stiff competition within the turbocharged inline-six SUV world. Namely, the 2023 Mercedes GLE 450 ($88,375 in Canada, $73,000 in the US) and the 2023 BMW X5 40i ($91,100 in Canada, $75,885 in the US). Thomas and James are interested in how the new Mazda CX-90 compares to the Germans in a drag and roll race. After all, the Mazda undercuts the price of its competition by quite a good margin while still offering similar performance figures. How will this turn out? Things don’t always go as you might expect in a drag race! We hope you enjoy the episode. Subscribe!

@@layne4376 does Mazda have a long rich history of making luxury level vehicles? No. I didn’t say they are better than any German brand, I own a BMW myself. But the fact that Mazda is willing to make an effort to make a quality and upscale product at a competitive price comparable to literally every manufacturer on the market (and actually doing it well), they are doing something right in my book. As a car buyer (vehicle for my family in this case), I'm all about value but I also want something that I'll enjoy driving and put a smile on my face when I put my foot to the floor. I completely disagree with the take on the screen. I find it way easier and less distracting to use the dial in my CX-5 while driving rather than the touch screen in my ATS-V. If you use it for like a day it is certainly annoying, but if you get used to the dial it is hard to go back to having to try to touch a screen while driving.

I have a CX30. Not the turbo but NA engine and while it’s not fast, it’s plenty quick and hella fun to drive. I live in Colorado and taking it on twisty mountain roads is so damn fun. I literally make up excuses to drive it. It’s a beautiful car too. It wears the Kodo design language better than any other Mazda in my opinion. The S curve on the side of the car produced by shadow and light is so cool, and the special way Mazda paints their cars with three different shades in one. I have Machine Gray Metallic. Interior is beautiful as well, and simple, which I love.

@@ToyotaAristo it’s all how you treat your vehicle! Sure if you drive it hard and then just turn it off. Yes you’re gonna have those problems. It’s best to let your vehicle cool down after running it hard! If you do these simple procedures, you will protect the longevity of your vehicle. Sure you can drive it super hard and then just turn it off then you’ll have issues like this. One of the key ingredients to having longevity of any kind of turbo is to let the car idle a minute or two before shutting it off. You’ll save money on unwanted maintenance especially the bearing in the turbo. It’s just all about common sense. My dad has been a mechanic his entire life and he has seen countless people with turbos with these kind of issues because they did not do this after driving it hard. Yes you can certainly go for the Mercedes or BMW, but I guarantee the maintenance cost will be significantly higher than the Mazda.

@@ecovango6675 all the thousand of cases are people driving it under normal conditions not driving it hard. These are family SUVs not Sportscars. And I'm sorry but there are too many cases with head cracks with this vehicle and Mazda will eventually make a Recall. The CX90 should maybe.. perhaps.. just slightly.. potentially.. be racing the X7 and the GLS...just due to its size (over 200 inches) and the fact that it has a dedicated 3rd-row rather than the jumpseats in the GLE and X5 (that literally only children or adults without legs can fit in).
