The new 2024 Mazda MX-5 Miata RF Club ND3 is here, and today we’re testing it out on track at Road America. This example is equipped with the Brembo, BBS, and Recaro package, and the ND3 comes with an improved LSD and steering rack. It’s a big step in the right direction, but not a perfect roadster. Let me know your thoughts with a comment below!

I can't wait for you to get one! Will say the soft suspension makes a EXCELLENT daily combined with 40 MPG. Can hit potholes no problem and fly over speed bumps without much drama especially the softer big ones lol. Track you definitely want coilovers there's plenty be prepared to be overwhelmed by options

@winddealer1 Doesn't matter, as that's besides the point. There is no ND3 from 2022. The ND3 was literally just released for 2024 (hence why there's so many KZbin videos about the ND3 within the past 1-2 months).

@@winddealer1 You are confused. The letters "ND" refers to the 4th generation MX-5 Miata, which debuted in 2016. This would be the "ND1" which had the slower, weaker engine. Manufacturers generally make updates and iterations to improve on this. In 2019, Mazda released the "ND2" and just now in 2024 released the "ND3."

The RF looks so much better than the convertible to me. I'm glad they brought a hard top to the lineup.
@dlg5485
@dlg5485 27 күн бұрын
The RF does look a bit more exotic than the soft top when the top is closed and it's better for poor weather, but the soft top looks better when open, in my opinion. I think the soft top is better in almost every way to be honest. It's simpler and much faster to operate, it's not speed limited, it doesn't trap air right next to your head like the RF (it's deafening at speed), it costs $thousands less, it looks and feels like a proper roadster. We all have our own preferences, so it's nice that Mazda makes both!

@@dlg5485 Better for bad weather ? I've been driving a 2016 MX-5 Club soft top in 4 season Northern Midwest weather & the soft top has been great thru the hottest to the coldest weather. Thru monsoon rains / sub zero ice & snow the soft top has been reliable. You pay $3400 to $3900 more for that RF& my soft top goes up /down 5 or 6 times Vs the 1 cycle for the RF. Not to mention the extra weight of 110 pounds most of which is above the drivers head. 🤔

I’ve been very happy with my ND2. I bought an RF however after 2 weeks with a club soft top. I did have some buyers remorse since I enjoyed that trim so much better. But I’m happy with my choice & I’d still pick an RF. I just wish it had the same style as the NC retractable hardtop instead of a targa. Just personal preference

I test drove ND2 RF and soft top and, although the RF looks a bit better and more exotic with the top closed (in my opinion), the soft top looks best with top open, like a true roadster. I very much preferred the soft top overall and wound up ordering a ND3 GT soft top manual, which I'm picking up in a week. The soft top feels so much more engaging with the top open, as well as having far less wind buffeting than the RF. I also like the soft top's simplicity and speed of operation. The RF is so slow to operate and speed limited to 6 mph which is ridiculous. The only way I'd choose the RF is if it was my only car and daily driver, but this will be a strictly fair weather vehicle for me, so the soft top was an easy choice.

Yeah the full roadster capability was the one consolation when I could only afford a PRHT NC and not an RF. That and hydraulic steering, actually.
@ag4allgood
@ag4allgood 19 күн бұрын
There is always the decision RF of soft top. Never wanted to experience the RF because of that extra cost ( $3400 to $3900 ) plus the extra weight ( about 110 pounds ). Both tops have the same roof drain filters that require cleaning. Its also good practice to not park under any trees because of the leaves / twigs / bird poop coming off them. I have a 2016 Club soft top & invested in a really good sunscreen so on hot days my car is not parked under a tree. Never had the interior flood & those filters have been cleaned 2 times with nothing in them each time. This car is my daily in 4 season weather so it also gets garaged.

@@dlg5485 If your comparing costs of Insuring 2 vehicles Vs only 1 / Vehicle registration / Maintenance all times 2 how is that perfect ? Those bad weather days also show me how good the MX-5 can handle them. A garage queen to me is NEVER a perfect situation because sitting unused is not a good thing for a vehicle.

Ive been shopping one for a while. I'm 6'2" and feel like the Recaros seem to noticeably reduce the headroom. Being firmer and more supportive, you don't sink down into them as much as you do the Grand Touring seats. The GT seats are very comfy but seem to wear way too fast. I'm curious to try the new non-Recaro club seats.

Could you comment on the steering lock to lock? My '21' seems like a lot (really shows itself on U turns) and wished it was tighter and less lock to lock turning. But I can’t find data on the '24' if it was reduced. I do hear you that it has more road feel and loading up on turn in. As always, looks like fun!✌️

You get tractive/xida electronically adjustable suspension, that's what you get. Club seems almost pointless outside of getting the better seats since you'll find better wheels and bakes in the aftermarket anyway, and you end up missing out on some extra creature comforts of the gt.
@dielaughing73
@dielaughing73 28 күн бұрын
What are the better wheels available for an affordable price? I have had trouble finding anything better than stock for my NC without spending a fortune.. as with many things, Mazda got the wheels right - strong & lightweight without costing too much. I do want to upgrade so I can put more rubber on the road.. but I'm gonna be out thousands (of Aussie dollars) just for rims.. Also, if you've ever tracked a Miata you know the brakes don't need a huge aftermarket upgrade. These cars stop better than almost anything else on track with stock calipers and rotors. Brembos would obviously be welcome but unless you're running forced induction there's no need to go buying a big brake kit (which, again, doesn't come cheap). Totally agreed on coilovers though.
@volodymyrshoniia2424
@volodymyrshoniia2424 28 күн бұрын
@@dielaughing73 I just meant brakes are usually decent with pads and fluid alone, maybe lines, but then if someone wanted to upgrade the calipers and discs, they can get some other options. Would be nice if there was a way to get all of the GT goodies and brembo/BBS/recaro at the same time (they did have it available on 124 abarth from the beginning, I think it's also available that way in some other countries). You could look into apex for inexpensive forged NC wheels with good warranties/replacements. Or flow formed if you want it to be even cheaper like some konigs/advantis/6ul.
@dielaughing73
@dielaughing73 28 күн бұрын
@@volodymyrshoniia2424 yeah it always comes down to money.. plus choices are pretty limited in Oz. Can't get half the coilovers, wheels, seats etc you see used in Europe or the US. Also, the trim levels are fewer here. Often there's just one option which usually includes all the available packs. MX5 does offer a few though, and if I were buying new I'd stump up for wheels, seat and brakes because trying to DIY would undoubtedly cost as much or more down here.
