2024 Mercedes-Benz AMG EQE SUV - More Fun Than a Model X?

Mercedes-Benz has quickly pushed out a range of different electric vehicles in the last few years, from its oh-so-expensive EQS and sibling EQS SUV through to its more bank-balance friendly EQA and EQB.
Earlier this year, we put the EQE through its paces, Merc's E-class EV. And now we're getting our hands on its SUV sibling, the EQE SUV. But this particular EQE isn't just a regular EQE - it's the range-topping AMG EQE SUV. And at well in excess of $100,000, it's far from a car most can afford (or even aspire to afford).
But can it take names when it comes to other high-end electric SUVS, like the Tesla Model X? We think it can.

Neat :⁠-⁠). Such beautiful videography, and such a pleasure to come along on a weekend drive with you two! The car seems fine, I like the passenger screen. I think I'd prefer a chevy Bolt still. I really enjoy the way you two enjoy each other's company - watching you two crack each other up is priceless 😂. I love how you both grin upon launch. The sounds the car makes are hilarious. I missed going out for tea at the end - I wanted a little fold out table and chairs with a cuppa for the ending commentary! I loved all the inclement weather, mist, rain, cold, fall colors, gravel roads, highways... and the Nevermore product placement was clever 😊. Buy a politician and import a mini car, lol! And the watch was hilarious... Such a great whistful conclusion, seems so true about the direction of car manufacturers. What a fun drive-along. I loved the closing piano recording, it fit the autumnal mood perfectly. Thanks for all you do!

Editorial note: the second half of this video is where it really took off for me - the good jokes, grins and involuntary laughs. Something to consider when cutting future videos together, maybe move some of that to the beginning? Just a thought, you all know your craft.

21:45 - Watching Michael struggle then perform CPR on that cargo cover makes me really appreciate the attention to detail Toyota had even way back in 2004 with my Prius - having a cutout in the under-floor storage perfectly shaped to fit the cargo cover.

It sounds like this is a good vehicle. Given that Mercedes still sells lots of ice cars, it would be helpful to compare it to other Mercedes SUVs in the $100k range. You don’t need to convince EV buyers to buy luxury suvs, you need to convince luxury suv buyers to go to an EV. The early adopters are drying up. Regardless of price you have to look at value in the same range. Is this a better value than an AMG GLE? Don’t worry about comparing to a Model X, compare to similar ICE cars

Not my style, or budget, but good to see a manufacturer bringing electric to 'their brand". AMG has always been too expensive, but there has ben a niche market.

Yes. fully agree. And at the same time, isn't it sometimes pleasurable and fun to enjoy something that very few will ever enjoy? Most importantly - if this car gets 1 person to buy it (and go EV) vs say an ICE Range Rover.... then perhaps a bit more enthusiasm is warranted ;-)

I’ve seen a couple of videos of this same car which piqued my interest but this video has elevated my desire to own one (great video, scenery, information on everyday usability, etc). I know you are very critical whilst remaining objective, and the fact that you both begrudgingly like the car says a lot… I popped into a dealership and saw the car in the same colour and absolutely love it. Now, I have to figure out how to get it on my driveway for Christmas - tips welcome please..😊

how does the EQE compare to the EQS? 2:49 that's the color i would go for if i had the money for a car like that. 17:40 a car like that should not be off-road. the only way i can afford a car like that is if my numbers come up, preferably on tuesday (£72M) or friday (£165M). 23:24 and how is anyone supposed to read that? this is even more ludicrous than the end credits on some movies.

Hmm. Mercedes Website shows this starting at $110, 000. It could be a nice vehicle to pick up used in a couple of years, if the warranty transfers. I wish Mercedes did a better job with the EQB as that's more my style.

I suppose it’s ok in a way. But for me, (regardless of me being an EV fan) if I was going to have a more expensive Merc just for the hell of it. It would definitely be a Unimog. Ok they’re not fuel efficient on the road. But if you can afford either an EQE or a Mog, you’re not going to be worrying about fuel/energy efficiency.

I'm old enough that 50k for a car is excessive. Still. The lack of inexpensive *cars* (i don't want an SUV) is likely to keep me in phev space when i really hoped to be fully electric next. Tesla's 3 seems to be the only car available now, but i really don't trust the brand 😕

As an older driver, I look to buy a luxury vehicle as my final transport before I am forced to put down my keys. While I could buy a vehicle in this price range, I just don’t want to. I want quality, but not financial regret. Right now, I wait for dealers to get serious with their markup and junk fees.

My ID4 does an excellent job of maintaining a distance to the car in front on the freeway. If I set the cruise to 65 and the car in front is doing 55, it holds its distance. If the traffic slows you a crawl, even stop and go, it will follow the traffic in front. I’m honestly can’t get over the idea that some non-zero number of people thought it would be acceptable and that people would like it if the car just decided on its own what lane it should be driving in. I just want to get in a plane and find some German software and engineers and product manager and use Google translate to ask them “who hurt you?”

Mercedes does not care what the masses need, especially in North America. I am not annoyed by it, because that is there thing. I am more mad about watching most, if not all, legacy builders push up market. GM would probably just straight up kill the Bolt if not for the credits they need so they can keep selling quad cab large trucks for insane prices. Really hope VW, Tesla, and others saying they have sub $30,000 vehicles coming soon , as in before 2026, do come through. I know in Europe Mercedes triesvto more of vehicle for the masses, but I doubt they will try to be that in the US. What few times they tried, they just backed off after a year or two.

Also, I will argue all day long that a car moving the brake pedal away from the drivers foot is as anti-safety as it can possibly get! If you see something the vehicle doesnt, you have no brake under your foot. Horrible.
