I just picked mine up a couple of weeks ago and for being the standard sound system, it is quite excellent. For awareness, I reached out to MB customer support on the sample and bit rates for the MBUX built-in apps. They did provide a response and told me the following via email, which should answer the question in the video: As a result, we have reached out to our technical team on your behalf and were provided the following information about the bit rate for MBUX music apps. Very impressive. Hopefully that means the E-Class will also be an S tier. Audi and Lexus seem to have fallen behind in terms of sound systems. @Charlie, what's your thoughts on many saying that the new gen Lexus products feeling almost identical to the Toyota counterparts or worse (apparently new Land Cruiser 250 can be more luxurious than the GX).

The only Audi system that probably has a chance at S Tier today is the 19 speaker 3D Advanced system in the RS7.

The TX is definitely guilty of that. However I quite like the new GX, and it's much nicer than the Land Cruiser we get here in the States. However I do recognize some unfortunate cost cutting from Lexus. Lexus should be sticking to their formula of unparalleled quality at the expense of some features and tech, not the other way around.

Anyone who puts the bass drivers up front as far forward as possible in the stiffest part of the car gets my vote. Physics always come into play and door mounted midbass drivers are terrible if not in an enclosure, even then putting them far forward like merc is a game changer. Only other manufacturer who’s done similar is the new Mazda 3 bose setup and that’s awesome for a factory fit system

it is good minimising vibrations but for me i think that bass coming from the front is wrong in my ears, i prefer bass coming from the back and all around where it just feels more natural to me its like bass from headphones.

@@nanospace2389 I think there’s a difference here, I love sub bass 20-60hz and that from a trunk sub is perfect, however the bass I’m referring to here is upper bass, these 8” drivers aren’t playing really low sub bass they’re doing what a door speaker would normally do badly. If you’ve ever played a drum set like I do all the time there’s a distinct crack when you strike a rimshot on a snare drum. Or if you listen to just a bass guitar the musical bass that midwoofers are designed to play is much better from something not mounted in a thin rattling door where the rear wave cancellation can destroy the sound. Watch ps sounds video in a mk4 golf where he demos between speakers in door vs in small enclosed boxes. You’ll get my point when you hear it. That clear note definition is what headphones do so well. Play the start of Dave mathews band song crush, listen to the bass intro on decent headphones then compare it in the car. The notes appear muddy in most car applications. So as a starting point have the bass woofers in the kick or firewall is a very fine starting place for an awesome setup, also some cars with b&o and bose mount the door woofers in enclosures which also helps massively. Add a decent sub for the really low stuff in the trunk and you’ll have a very capable system.

during some heavy bass, i hear some crackling from your binaural mics. Is the bass THAT strong or are your mics going out? can be heard around 19:41 and most of Redlips Bass test. Other than that, superb review as always!

Can you specify why you gave the Burmester System in the CLE an S and the almost identical one in the C-Class "only" an A? Do the Headrest speakers really make that much of a difference? Or is it the smaller cabin that concentrates the sound better?

The CLE and S class get a high end version of the Burmester system. C class does not.

No, the C and CLE Class have the same system called „Burmester 3D-Surround-Soundsystem“ with the same price (around 1300€ in Germany) and have the same amp with 710W according to the Mercedes Homepage. The only difference in the CLE are 2 additional speakers in the headrest. In the S-Class you have 2 choices of Burmester: 1. The same „3D Surround-System“ for also around 1300€ and the „Burmester High-End 4D-Surround-Soundsystem“, which is a whole different game with 31 Speakers, 1750W and a Price of 8000€. There also is a High-End version of the „3D-surround-soundsystem“, but you can only get that in the GLS and it has a 1610W Amp, so it’s got nothing to do with the other two. Long Story short: the C and CLE systems are the same. That‘s why I‘m asking why you rated them differently 😊

Previously, having 17 speakers or more meant the system was in the next tier of performance from Burmester and Mercedes, but they've been making changes recently that haven't yet been explained on the Burmester/Mercedes webpage. Without comparing them directly side by side, I can't necessarily say that the CLE is markedly better, however I can say I haven't been very impressed with any of the recent 15-speaker Burmester systems, but I was very happy with the CLE 17-speaker.

@@wantsanewvehicle 2020+ AMG for under 60k? You are probably looking for CLA, A class or GLA then, or perhaps a w205 C43? If you care about the sound system, I would go for the latter, as the speaker locations are much better than the FWD-based A-class-tier models, with midbass drivers in the front footwells, resulting in tighter and better controlled bass. In case of these lower end cars, there is just one tier of Burmester offered (with S class and GLS there are 2). The midbass drivers are very good and go quite low, but I am not sure if C class gets a subwoofer at all. I would probably look for a base system car and do a plug and play upgrade, which in these cars is dead easy because of the good speaker locations, and then have it tuned by someone who knows what they are doing. If you are willing to spend a bit more, have a subwoofer installed, it shouldn't take much space as there is plenty of room in the wheel wells of the trunk, or the spare wheel well for a true IB application. This way, you will have much better results than most if not all OEM systems.

Hi DM sound!! Is there any kind of way you can rent a 2014 Chrysler town and country, man your gonna be real surprised about the treble and bass, it is WAY deeper then the 2021 Toyota 4runner, its a great van, its a 6 speaker system BTW, hope you can make a video about it! God bless

I've never driven a 4runner, but the company I used to work for I had a company vehicle that I spent all day in, and I worked there for over 4 years full time. Usually I had a 2011-2018 grand caravan which I can't imagine the sound system being any different for the T&C and I was never impressed..
