Current events make me gag, and going back to the feeling of what brought me comfort and joy is what will make me open up my checkbook. There’s zero chance of me picking up a MB, BMW, or Audi. I have a 24’ Volvo XC60 T8. Do I like it? No, its a 4 banger, mildly tolerable, and its cheaper than the MB, BMW, Audi. What will my next car be? If Subaru were to put a turbo on the Forester, I’d buy one in 2 seconds. It has gauges, knobs, and is quirky. If Audi or Volvo put a 5 cyl in their midsize cars I’d line right up. There’s nothing special about MB, BMW, Audi anymore. There’s no “comfort” for the older people who remember (and can afford) the feel of the older cars. The premium carmakers have removed the magic - and their [lack of] sales show it. It’s a shame because lots of hard work goes into the design and engineering of some of these cars. They’ve destroyed the demand for their product, and not everybody will lay out the money for an LC500.

This latest gen of mercs are so cheap and tacky
@SM-10103 ай бұрын
I can see the tacky with the screens, but there’s the ability to just get two cars screens with a wood dashboard. As for the “cheap” you are completely wrong. The e class has soft touch materials and does what Mercedes is known for (also mentioned in the video): quiet and comfy rides. Seems to me lately all you people do is just focus on the negatives and clearly ignore what sets it apart from your average economy cars

Mercedes: Here's a tablet with a car attached. Me: I want a car with nice driving, comfort, and yes loads of cool tech - ACTUAL hardware tech that helps me such as LIDAR and radar allowing intelligent cruise control, full surround cameras, a nifty heads up display - and NOT this tablet and apps nonsense. These glorified ipad cars will age terribly, and in terms of elegance and beauty and sheer luxury feel marques like Bentley or Lexus do it much better with the dashboards and controls.

_"All these divots...it's about creating LESS turbulence underneath."_ - Divots create MORE turbulence...but, that may create LESS DRAG (like dimples on a golf ball). IMO, location suggests that it could be the texture is actually to reduce liquid adhesion for drag or corrosion purposes, better for panel integrity long term, or it's an NVH measure.

Great commentary. I'm really enjoying the exterior. Mostly understated and timeless with a little bit of flair. Glad they brought the all terrain wagon here and hope we get the e53 and e63 (wagon 🙏). I think a PHEV engine option would be a nice fit.

Priced conveniently somewhere between 15 and 20K. In addition to analog gauge cluster, there will also be mechanical (looking) switches for controlling comfort, HVAC and various assistance systems.* *in addition to the retro switchgear package, active retro package subscription is needed to make the physical switches functional. And base models will get OLED screen clusters, middle trim levels get upgraded 3D OLED clusters. *Amount of information shown in the cluster is dependant on the level of the gauge cluster subscription service.

If I can offer a few suggestions for the sound system graphs; cutoff the graph at 20Hz--there's nothing useful from the sound system below that. Measure in high res, but present as smoothed OCTAVE data as that more readily represents what you'll actually perceive; the human ear is much more sensitive to broader octave-octave balance than small or narrowly spaced burbles in the response. Those burbles typically vary greatly, depending on the exact seat and head position. Showing the high res measurement, for your purposes, is visual clutter.

I have owned two back to back generations of the Audi Q7 ( the most recent and the one before it ). I was shocked to see how much of a backstep the new generation was. The tactile jewellery like knobs and buttons were replaced by a stupid screen. Although it was a good implementation of the screen, it automatically seemed comparable to my seltos, which is crazy. There is no doubt in my mind that even the automakers know they are cheaping out, but since auto journalists are so stupid nowadays they are able to influence consumer decisions and let them get away with such cost cuttings.

I really like this car. The problem with the Hyperscreen - aside from the general debate around technology - is it looked old from Day 1. It's not good when "cutting edge" design can easily be predicted for "why" it will look old. It will look old because it is very obvious that they wanted the whole panel to be one continuous screen. And already certain cars, Cadillac/Lincoln/Genesis are approaching this reality. Instead the Hyperscreen is an odd patchwork of ill-fitting rectangular screens with large bezels. I actually think the base screen layout looks better and will without question age better.
