Has to be said Moto Guzzi has never been about engines delivering silly amounts of power and top notch advanced electronic gadgets. It's more about the joy of a relaxed ride.

I think BMW & KTM would need some Italian designers. The Ducati and this one are really nice.

I currently own both the Ducati Multistrada V4s, and the Stelvio. Hands down I prefer the Stelvio, the Duc will be going up for sale soon. Bravo Moto Guzzi!!

@Motomack1042
@Motomack1042 5 ай бұрын
@tigdurrant8939 The bikes are very different, the Ducati is smooth and powerful, but it is a big bike, I don't like how the engine is tuned, low end grunt is lacking, flywheels are to light. Gearing is extremely close and requires working the gears constantly. Front end feel can be vague at times. Guzzi, on the other hand, has good power, a wider more usable power band, better front end feel, and stability. The Guzzi is effortless to ride, while not as refined as the Duc, it is also 10k less expensive. Every individual is different, and we have to sync with the bike we ride, I just have not been able to sync 100% with the Duc. Guzzi has a couple of niggles, I have synced with it much better.

@@Motomack1042 I feel the same about my Multistrada 950 S. I love the bike, but I've been to to the Alps several times now, and I'm constantly changing between 1st and 2nd in the tight stuff. And on uphill hairpins, I even have to feather the clutch to keep it smooth.
@larrydotson4692
@larrydotson4692 6 күн бұрын
@capz3217, the new Stelvio, like the previous generation Stelvio, is engineered to climb mountain switchbacks. Thus, the great low-end torque for climbing, and easy, confident turn-in and cornering.

Your reviews are so thorough and 'real world'. I have the standard V100 Mandello. I agree Guzzi should provide a 6.5" display on such a premium model. I'm very happy with the forks on the Mandello but I will swap out the rear shock as it is unnecessarily harsh. As for the sound the engine makes - it is absolutely glorious with the stock pipe, but almost impossible to reproduce in a KZbin video.

"They just weren't selling..." Well, I suppose you could say that about all Moto Guzzi's😉, but the real reason the old Stelvio was discontinued was because the 4 valve 1200 couldn't meet new euro emissions standards. It's why the Griso and Norge were all discontinued as well...same engines, same problem. Throw in the ABS requirements, and Guzzi said, "We're done here!"
@NothingToProve
@NothingToProve 8 ай бұрын
If that were the reason, they would have done what all the other OEMs do, (Honda/BMW/KTM/Triumph/Ducati/Yamaha) put the money into it and bring it up to current emission standards. Simple business case. Plus the 3 dealers I talked to said that they were "not selling". Also, every moto mag article I've read said the same thing, "not selling" enough. This is why I used the term "not selling", I didn't make it up, I got it from them. Take care, Scott

I was very impressed by the V100 I rode last summer (brief test ride), everything from the fit/finish to the handling was a pleasure. The size of the TFT didn't even occur to me. Maybe it's because I don't ride every bike in a particular category, so I'm unable to compare, but I just go by what's in front of me, so if the screen works for me, I'm good to go. This is why I started out the video with the V85TT in the background, a 850cc and that competes with the V2/900GS and this is according to Moto Guzzi the replacement for the 1200 Stelvio and they "say" competes with the V4/1300GS and this weights more than those...so...logic. 👍😊 Take care, Scott

Not sure what Ducati you're mentioning in the video. I have a Moto Guzzi V7. Fantastic charismatic bike. Then I bought a new Ducati 950 Multistrada. Couldn't sell it back to the dealer fast enough! No soul, top heavy, sounds like a bag full of rusty nails, uncomfortable for me( for passenger ok), no bottom torque. Disappointed as I had one back in 1982 and liked it. Bought a BMW R1250R. The bike brought back my love for riding! Never again Ducati! Not sure if I'll ever get another bike again, but if I do, it would be a Moto Guzzi for sure!

It is a nice looking motor and has all the options I want/need when they at more stuff and electric suspension than the price is too close to the competition. I had the old Stelvio for a couple of years and it turned into love/hate relationship. Fabulous bike to ride and a beautiful layout. But parts are stupidly expensive and hard to get hold of. It's Piaggio owned, so serviced at scooter shops by scooter mechanics. The camshafts turned into chocolate in literally one day and gave me a £2500 bill. And MG are notorious for their bad warranty. This new one looks gorgeous and I would be in the market for one if it wasn't for the issues I had with the old one.

Wonderful review!! My only complain is that (at least in the video) you didn't rev the bike more than 4-5000 rpms. And the power in this bike is above the rpms you rode it. I believe you would love the engine even more. Also i believe that in comparison to Mandello , Stelvio has different gears in transmission ... 1st and 2nd gears look much longer than in Mandello.

Thank you. Umm...I went past 7k several times even in the video, sometimes it's hard to see the tachometer. Also, 90% of torque is at 3,500 RPM. So from 3500 = 90% to 6500 = 100%. That is the sweet spot and I didn't want to rev the snot out of an engine that is not broke in yet. Take care, Scott

Great review, thanks - nice to see one that's not from the recent launch in Spain! I have a '22 V85TT and love it - traded up from a V7iii with no regrets. I have no issues with the smaller display, I think it's 4.3"? All the info I need, very readable and I like the layout - I have pretty bad presbyopia and have no problem reading it without glasses. The only reason I'd like a larger display would be to integrate the warning lights around the small one, but that's really a nitpick. In response to another comment, the '24 V85 has some major changes: the new display and variable valve timing to name just 2.

I have had about gobs of bikes in my life. I LOVE that they resisted keyless. I am glad that they went with a manually adjustable suspension. I prefer that over electronic. I would have liked to have seen the 3 point "star" adjustment petals, though. A 7 gallon tank would be sweet for the extra range and wind protection a bigger tank provides. I guess I am old because I never use a quick-shifter even if it is equipped. So the lack of one here doesn't bother me personally. The worst thing about this bike IMO is the lack of range on the windscreen adjustment. I love BMW power windscreens and their wide range of adjustability. Guzzi seemed to have designed theirs as an afterthought.

The design, especially from the side is wicked! Love it! So happy now that MG is making the effort to be at least a little more competitive and up to date in their own way. Their brand and history is a big seller for me. Now they need to work on making their V7 a little bigger. Dislike the spindly front suspension and tire they have on that thing. That said Im a sucker for a transverse twin. Just get a real kick out of being able to see the motor like you do when youre sitting on one.

Great review Scott - thank you. Does Guzzi have the km and time based ECU maintenance alerts that have to be reset by the dealer? This is an infuriating thing for me, as someone who does not take the bike to the dealer for service, but it is getting more and more popular with the euro brands in particular. This is something that should be covered in new bike reviews as it is becoming more and more engrained as time goes on.

Great review, but I think buying the Stelvio is as much about taste and brand and less about the numbers, by the way have you ever tested the Yamaha Super Tenere ? The buyers of the Stelvio and the Super Tenere are more about the feel and reliability than speed, also remember that those bikes you seam to prefer are much more expensive, also the few kg difference you really don’t feel when they are rolling.

Very good review! I would NEVER buy a bike with radar controlled cruise control--why in the world would anyone want to base their bike speed on the car in front of them? Have it on my car (Honda--all all models have this) and I hate it with a passion! I will not keep that Honda for that very reason--motorcycles do not need electronics controlling their movements--very dangerous in my opinion.

Our safety rating system pushing car makers to put more and more of this nonsense on cars. It's why I absolutely will not by a car newer that what is currently 5 years old. New cars are about as appealing as drinking a cold glass of sick.

A carefully designed fork by good engineers does not even need the possibility to adjust it! Electronic suspension is just an expensive gimmick.

Well, I've been on many trips (loaded down with luggage) to the Alps and been on many harsh roads with my non-adjustable front suspension BMW 900XR to where I wished I could soften the compression and rebound and change the pre-preload. Sure one or two days of it was ok but after that it just really sucked, bad enough to where it was my number one driver for me to get ride of the 900XR after the second summer and second long trip to the Alps. Never again will I own a non-adjustable suspension. Manual is the minimum, electronic is better cause then I can change on the fly as the road surface changes. Having the suspension match the road surface, more tire patch contact, is a good thing. Take care, Scott

@@NothingToProveI agree 100%! I have a Tiger GT Explorer and the electronic suspension is so comfortable, you can set it to corner like it's on rails or be as comfortable as a lazy boy recliner. It really makes a difference after a long multi-day trip when everything hurts and you can set it to be nice and plush to get home in comfort!

That's why I'd buy the Stelvio. It's too heavy to take down some busted arzz road. But would make a great touring platform. Overall, as far as I'm concerned that's a good thing.

Just FYI: I know that official KTM 1290 price is kinda high, but it feels like noone actually paying it. Cause they have discounts almost always, especially on previous year model (which are 100% same, except color) Last year, i got my 2022 SAS for 17500€ base price (from KTM Berlin). And with that info it became very competitive with Stelvio, cause KTM have adaptive cruise and electro suspension in base spec.

Scott, I am really struggling to make a decision between Suzuki 1000GX and Stelvio. Smoothness and power on one side (and reliability I guess too) and Character and nice sound and feel of Stelvio. Come on help me 😂. Thank you

The face and general lines of the new Stelvio remind me of the Caponord ETV1000, a great great bike. Hopefully the Stelvio will get the same ‘Rally Raid’ treatment as the Aprilia did so it can comfortably compete with the more off-road oriented offerings from other brands. The Ohlins suspension on the Mandello is redundant, to put it politely. Don’t really see it adding much value to the Stelvio either.

Hi, Scott. Thanks a lot for your video and review. Very much entertaining and interesting. Regarding the weight, do you happen to know if the Stelvio's battery is a lithium one or a different technology? If not lithium, just changing the battery would yield maybe 4-5 kgs less. A small TFT, manual suspension and kind of weighty bike are, maybe, forgettable sins comparing the price tag, if the bike feels good for the rider. Anyhow, as I said, thanks for your opinion. Best regards.

No I don't know but if it was lithium, then they'd probably say it cause that is a premium item on bikes today. The 1300GS has a lithium battery, that was one of the changes to the new GS but the GS is also way more money than this. So...it was probably a cost save to keep the price down. Thanks for the encouragement and take care, Scott

TDM headlight (which is good) but a little bit...short bike. Don't you think? But overall a nice looking machine (100 times better than the 1300GS)

I don't consider a manual adjustable suspension a negative. Simpler is more reliable in my opinion. I wouldn't call it a fair contest to compare a 1041cc v-twin to a 1300cc boxer or a v4. More expensive bikes will have a more sophisticated package. To me it's a clean, compelling design.

Yes, it's a smaller engine, 1042cc, but it's also heavier and physically bigger then the two you mentioned. So, it's a draw...well really not the Guzzi should be in a bigger class, more with the Versys 1000/V-Strom 1050/Super Tenere 1200. Those 3 are more in line with less tech, less power and more weight but hey it's unfair to compare a European brand with other European brands, should stick to comparing to the Japanese brands 🤣 But if you are buying a Guzzi, numbers really don't matter and I'd take this over almost all the others but I love Guzzi's, probably buy one next year. Take care, Scott

Is the gearing similar / identical to the V100? The V100 had very short / close gears, especially 4th, 5th, and 6th gear, does the Stelvio have the same issue? I don't understand the people at Moto Guzzi honestly, since the V85TT their transmissions have never been "travel friendly".

It is for me, my eye sight is not what it used to be and I wear reading glasses but reading glasses under a helmet just don't work that well and the distance that a display is from the rider is in that zone to where it's not close enough to use them. Take care, Scott

Dash screen size should be diopter-dependent, I guess? 5in +/- 1in per D. Or just wear glasses/lenses/lasic, as per the road rules.
