I absolutely love my mt09 sp! I’ve had the bike for 3 days now and already have 700miles on it. Hit 600 miles in 48hours :) I couldn’t get enough of it! Everything was in check during my first maintenance besides the chain which was to be expected, had to tighten it a touch, and oil change of course. Manual states for break in 0-600miles (1000km) to avoid prolonged operation above 5300rpms and 6300rpms from 600-1000miles (1000-1600km) so with that said… drive it like you’re going to normally drive it, just avoid WOT for more than 20 seconds. My only complaints is second gear is so painful till 6k rpms, needs a tune. And if I get really picky I could say the QS between first and second decided to not work twice, but was during WOT acceleration so I’m sure there was some operator error there lol. But other wise this QS is the shit at a solid 10/10 can’t beat it. Fantastic bike again. I would highly recommend getting one if you’re on the fence.

Just a clarification, 2nd gen MT09s do have ride by wire throttle, which is why you can fit a blipper to them. Yamaha just opted to keep the old style throttle grip and cables to operate the APS (accelerator position sensor). You'll find that the cables go to the APS on the throttlebodies, but don't open the throttle butterflies with the engine off. Had a 2019 MT09SP with woolich race tools. Sold it on sadly. My biggest gripe with the 18-21 models is the 14 litre fuel tank, and the front forks while fully adjustable, actually need springs and compression valving changes out of the box. Crappy dual rate springs, compression damping way too stiff for a lightweight like me.

It’s the inevitable minute metal shavings that are sheered off during break-in, why manufacturer recommend a certain rpm range. Engines are tested to much higher rpm in the factory prior to being installed , but, that’s not real world conditions with a load on the frame, load on the chain, pot holes, sudden bursts of high rpm and engine braking by a meat suit pilot 😅 The engine doesn’t ‘learn’ anything about your riding style. Electronics can. It’s not true that if you stick to the manufacturers guidelines for first 1000km that the engine won’t perform as well after. My SFV4s certainly runs to full capacity (on private tracks of course) and I didn’t once go over 8k rpm for first 1000. It redlines 15k to 16k rpm for reference. You’re correct that gong over a little isn’t going to do any damage. It’s just at higher rpm during that period there are little fragments floating around. Manufacturers are covering their asses incase you damage anything.

I'd play around with the LIF control settings to get used to the wheel coming up. But if you want to clutch up properly you'll need to turn it all off otherwise the TCS will drop the wheel on you.

@marcusgeorge18254 ай бұрын
Ride by wire and cable throttles are completely different. The first is linked to your ECU which allows for multiple riding aids and a quick shifter that can auto blip going down the gearbox. The older style cable throttles can provide some features however the main one is a more direct to engine feedback. Glad you’re enjoying your new bike. Was expecting a bit more based on the title instead of wheelie information and brake lights.

Hi bro, I want to buy a mt09 sp and I am tall like you (I’m 6,2’ tall). When i got on in the store, i see that my knee was rubbing against an edge of the side plastic tank cover...will raising the footpeg be able to correct that? Another question, driving with traffic through the city does it get very hot and does the hot air in your legs? thank you! wonderful machine😃!
@INFAMAS3 ай бұрын
I don't think it gets too hot, though i haven't rode it in summer yet! As for the legs. Raising the footpegs will only bring your knees up higher. Hope that helps!

Cycle News says that 70% rpm, 70% load, and 70% throttle for relatively brief bursts and then let off throttle is great for the precess. Ride normal for a while again and then, repeat. Let the bike cool down and then keep repeating this process over and over until you are through the break-in period. Don't abuse the bike but, definitely don't baby it either.

I've been thinking of buying a 765rs or a gen4 mt09 (base), both are almost the same price (in Costa Rica) I'll be using the bike as an daily driver and the roads here are not that good, because of that I'm leaning towards the mt a bit more because of the softer suspension, but the triumph has a 3 year warranty without a limit of miles (don't know if an exhaust fucks the warranty, if so i won'tget it), it will be aswell my 1st ever big bike, im coming from a 450, I've heard that if i start in the 765rs I'll get spoiled with the nicer suspensión and nicer breaks that i won't even use to their 60% capability The Mt what i don't like is the prices is listed at, the same or almost the same as the steet triple which is a better bike all around, just concerned about reability for being a daily driver doing around 13k miles a year (or more) Have you tried the triumph?

Don't buy a Triumph. Their "warranty" is "if it can leave the dealership under its own power, it's fine."

I have 1200 kilometres with this bike I think you’re wright the bike needs a tune 2nd and 3rd gear are not torquey enough for me I come from mt 07 I also notice the chain is noisy and the engine makes a weird sound sometimes in almost every gear from 2 to 5000 rpm the dealership told me this is normal they can’t fix it it’s something about cylinder timing other than I love the bike and the brakes are amazing.
@INFAMAS4 ай бұрын
Same here. Chain is a bit loud and the engine makes a slight tick. But a new exhaust will cover that up hahaha
@aluisious4 ай бұрын
...sounds like it's a lemon. The engine should not make "a weird sound." There is no such thing as "cylinder timing." There is ignition timing, and that doesn't make weird noises.
