I don't remember the specifics any more than that it was a historic day that was changed so it was illegal to talk about it and then it was changed to a heroic day and then another group tried to get back in time for another agenda. DBS Deep Brain Stimulation Implants have been used for decades for movement disorders such as Parkinson's, Essential Tremors, and Dystonia. TMS and similar procedures that target areas of the brain without surgical incisions are being used for tourettes, severe depression, and other conditions. Neurolink seems to be an offshoot of these procedures that also target the brain but actually provide a communication system with outside sources by using the body's own neurons to effect that communication. The concern will always be the interference of outside forces that could compel thoughts or behaviors that would not be under the control of the individual with the neurolink device. Until that would be assured I am not sure this would be a choice made by anyone who had no physical or mental disability that required the neurolink device for the individual to function normally or at least better than without the device.

Like measuring the steam from a steam engine, finding a correlation between density of steam and engine function and then claiming you have measured and captured engine torque. May be of some pragmatic utility, but tells you nothing about how the engine functions. So, do not confuse utility with understanding (It makes a difference. We have used fire for 100s of 1,000s of years; but until we understood the nature of heat (molecular motion -- at least as of today) our ability to utilize this energy source was limited).

@keithplymale237410 ай бұрын
@@Gabe-cobalt Things will change once this becomes as common as cell phones, PC's of all sizes, Wi Fi being everywhere have become so ubiquitous. I strongly suspect the greatest initial impact will be in the military. Weapons systems controlled at the speed of thought. The initial limitations will be in how much data the user can integrate. But computer support will advance to the point where a tank like an M-1 for example would have a single crew man who can drive, scan for targets, engage those, reload with faster auto loading systems, scan for threats and react to them. Aircraft are already at the limit of what the pilots can stand as have been sine the F-16. Add attacking and defending at the speed of thought directly connected to the planes systems. A military without this capability will be in very real trouble. Science research done at the speed of thought where the people are able to communicate mind to mind and with the computers that way will push everything you can think of to new heights of knowledge. I am almost completely paralyzed; I can only move my head (plus I have 1/5 lung power). SHOULD I DO IT? I am of course super interested! A spinal cord injury C3/4 to be precise, since 1995, my fist life started in 1969. Right now I do have ±control over a computer (HeadMouse and onscreen keyboard) and a chin-controlled wheelchair. I don't have control over a mobile phone. I am a chicken as it comes to medical things, and to be real: there are risks. There is metal in my neck, will they together start acting as a battery? But if safe I do consider stepping over my fears. Even this early (the walking again is.. miles away) the positives of a Neuralink could improve my live. Although my computer control is good enough really. Best would be to repair the spinal cord in a biological way. That is not going to be possible any time soon. Right now, what I need much more than great control over a mobile phone, is to have great control over 2 medium size super quick robot arms, connected to my wheelchair or bed. I need access to the real world much more than access to a computer. Also; if I want great access to a mobile phone, I need to: get it, push its buttons, and point the thing. Taking a picture, scanning QR code, holding it in front of me or next to my ear, for all these I need access to the real world aka robot arms. So I guess -to answer my own question, I will wait until Neuralink can give me great access to 2 highspeed robots arms at the same time. And how much harder is that compared to great control over a mobile phone? Not much harder I think. Very exciting! Thank you team Neuralink! And other people with a very high spinal cord injury, what are your thoughts about all this?

I should try reapplying to Neuralink soon. It's important to note, that for more advanced applications, we'll need to interface with larger portion of the brain. That might be innitially achieved with few Neuralink chips, or maybe a larger future device. Later, probably another type of device (mesh embracing the brain or such) would be needed for full scale capabilities. The current Neuralink is the most important first step towards that. I would put one in my brain, if it has good applications and if it's available for wider public. Some of the concerns I would have though are, how it would react to vigorous exercises, like weightlifting, box jumps, running and such. Also, I wonder, if it happens that you have to defend yourself into a fight, or if you slip and fall on the floor, would it whitstand such impacts...

We're even taught and have to be reminded to practice mindfulness and how it's a struggle for most and takes purposeful thought to quickly replace not so good thoughts with good ones. So, how does this work exactly? Immediate thought upon anger: Punch them in the face. Neurolink: Punches said person in the face, or detects and determines for you said action has an unfavorable outcome??? And if so, so now Neurolink will control your emotion and actions??? What are these chips connected to? Capable of downloading something unwanted or requested by the individual using it?? It sounds like an ok device, but also sounds like we're headed towards a digital Fear the Walking Dead society where your thoughts and actions could possibly controlled by an unknown. Remember the movie Chaos Walking??? #HereWeGo.. lol..smh

No wonder I've been missing your updates . Following you on X now. I really appreciate all the hard work you put into Neurolink. Your presentations are concise, simple and very informative. I've been watching this since the early days and I just cant imagine the life changes for spinal cord patients. The future is going to be amazing.

It wont be very useful until the implant can decipher words and thoughts. Typing letter by letter is really slow way to input information.

7:30 you lost your credibility at this point, mixing extremely far fetched uses for neuralink (upload your brain) with more reasonable and attainable used such as "telepathic" communication.
