Күн бұрын

The 2024 NHL Draft in Las Vegas' Sphere is over, and Steve Yzerman, Kris Draper, Nicklas Lidstrom & Co. have selected the newest crop of Hockeytown prospects for the Detroit Red Wings.
Tune in as we start by discussing the craziness at the beginning of the 1st round, with Celebrini and Levshunov going as expected, Sennecke going way higher than thought, Demidov to the Canadiens, Utah snatching up Tij Iginla, Zeev Buium falling to Minnesota, & more (4:40).
Next, a full assessment of the Detroit Red Wings selecting Michael Brandsegg-Nygard 15th overall: prospect analysis, how he stacked up to others like Hage, Eiserman, Connelly, etc., where he fits in the Red Wings core next to Raymond, Larkin, Seider, & Co., how he measures against previous picks like Danielson & Kasper, strengths & weaknesses, ultimate upside, & LOTS more. Also, a review of the rest of the 1st round (27:00).
After that, we assess all the rest of the Detroit Red Wings' picks: Max Plante (46:50), Ondrej Becher (53:20), Landon Miller (56:10), John Whipple (57:50), Charlie Forslund (59:55), Austin Baker (1:02:50), & Fisher Scott (1:03:45), then give our overall assessments of the draft class, grades, Yzerman's performance & philosophies, & more (1:05:30).
We then turn to notable draft performances and NHL moves (like Utah trading for Sergachev & Marino) (1:10:45), before discussing the Jacob Trouba, Steven Stamkos, & Patrick Kane rumors as they relate to Detroit (1:15:50) before we take your questions and comments during our Overtime segment (1:36:10) - enjoy!

I know people will laugh at this but considering our top prospects and excluding edvinson and Berggren. We have 5+ prospects that have the talent to stick around and contribute in Detroit and that's insane to me. ASP, MBN, Danielson, Mazur, Cossa, Augustine, Kasper, Wallinder. Idk maybe I'm overly optimistic but I think that's probably better than most teams in their farm.

Another piece to Minnesota trading up one pick to grab Buium is that they knew Philly wasn't going to take him, hence why they were willing to move to the pick. Winnipeg wanted him badly, and they were working to get something done with Philly for that pick. So this was a way to also keep Winnipeg from getting him. Obviously, Minny wanted Buium also and knew they could cheaply get that pick from Philly and Winnipeg couldn't because they didn't have a first rounder this year. I think getting to stick it to Winnipeg was part of the reason that GMBG looked so happy when he went on stage to make that pick. Minnesota had originally intended to use their pick to trade with Winnipeg to get Rutger McGroarty, but then Buium happened.

When Lidstrom said "Detroit presents".....The Red Wings should use that tag line from on at every draft MBN seems like a great personality, more of a Palmieri or Krieder type on the ice. Gritty, heavy forward. Great shot. I would give this draft a B - After the first round yet 2 more defenders and another goalie. They needed all forwards for about 3 years to find that elusive great winger depth. It is still glaringly absent.

You should have mentioned that Max Plante is committed to Minnesota Duluth, a historically defensive, upperclassmen/veteran heavy lineup where Scott Sandelin doesn’t give young scoring forwards as much opportunity. With Plante being above average defensively as well as a legacy recruit, there is a chance he gets more minutes this year. But the opportunity for his offensive upside to stagnate is very real

A trade with Trouba could be a very good solution. He is better than Ghost, in my opinion, and we need more toughness in the Atlantic Division. Florida, Tampa, Ottawa and Boston are currently tougher than us in terms of playing style. But, the Rangers have to meet us halfway: - min 2.5 million salary cut - Copp and/or Holl have to be included in the deal - Veleno, a 3rd draft pick 2025 for Kakko Possible trades to reduce the salary cap: - DET Fabri MON Heineman, Andersson - DET Määttä NYI Engvall - DET Husso, 4th draft pick 2025 MIN Gustavsson Possible new acquisitions (UFA): - Gustafsson for 900k for 2 years - Trenin for 1.75 million for 2 years Possible lineup: DeBrincat (LW RW) Larkin (C) Raymond (RW LW) Berggren(LW RW) Compher (C RW) Kakko (RW) Söderblom (LW RW)/Mazur (LW) Danielson (C) Engvall (RW LW) Andersson (LW C)/Mazur (LW) Rasmusen (C LW) Trenin (RW LW) (Kasper) Chiarot (LD RD) Seider (RD) Edvinsson (LD) Trouba (RD) Johansson (LD RD) Gustafsson (RD LD)/Petry (RD) (Petry) Gustavsson (G) Lyon (G) (Augustine)

No one knows obviously, he's projecting based on the fact that none of Kasper, Danielson, or MBN has put up overly impressive numbers in the leagues they have played in at time of draft(or D+1 and D+2 for Kasper and Danielson respectively). Generally players that have displayed limited offense in the lower levels don't all of a sudden become scoring dynamos in the best league in the world. Yzerman consistently drafts high floor over upside, I don't see why people have such a struggle accepting that.

Did u see Yzerman's response to Max about why he gave a 2nd round to shed Walman's contract? He basically said that the trade to Nashville was to get a 2nd and get comparable prospect, so he could offload money. So basically he did a deal so he could get a "free" 2nd round pick to offload money and a roster spot. I still think its a bad justification of giving away assets for free.
