People should be thinking bridge deals for both Seider and Raymond...Yzerman has done bridge deals for EVERY single first RFA deal. All the way back to Kucherov's 1st deal after ELC. Go back to every after their ELC, Steve has done a bridge 3-4 year deal.

History being what it is, bridge deals are what people should be expecting bc Yzerman has said on MANY occasions that he doesn't pay for potential.

I think the undefeated Patriots losing to the Giants in the Superbowl would be a close contender for all time collapse. Not saying it would be worse or not, but it is up there.

idk i think the NHL is lucking out with the timing of everything, NBA finals ended so fast everyone is watching the crazy stanley cup and the it immediately jumps into the draft/free agency etc. i think this will be good for the sport how compact this week is 😂 (very busy for you guys tho)

I think Atleast Kasper and Mazur should get a roster spot, SY said he called up Reese because Kasper didn’t have the experience and he needs the experience unless Danielson can do a Raymond I don’t mind him being on the Roster either. I think Kane is going where he can compete for the cup.

Yzermans playing hard ball for two reasons, both ray and seider WANT to stay here and he's going tosign free agents first as a negotiation tactic using the cap. If you read his body language when asked about Kane he has a tick. That tick to me says that Kane wants to sign here but only if he can get certain players to play with him aka most likely stamkos. 100% someones being bought out and someones being traded. I have a feeling that Yzerman plans on going to the cap. He absolutely WANTS to improve and that means signing kane and stamkos as well as getting ulmark.

I feel like Zeev is going to go third overall. He's the best defenseman in the draft and Anaheim needs a defenseman. He's also from Laguna Niguel, CA. Which is 30 minutes from Anaheim. Then Detroit trades for Gibson and Zegras. To Detroit - Gibson (30% Salary Retained), Zegras // To Anaheim - Husso, Holl, Berggren, Shai Buium, 2024 2nd

pretty creative idea - the reality is - both SY and the little ball of hate are such tough negotiators - can anyone see them swinging such a deal ? They are both very smart and drive very hard bargains and I don't see either giving an inch to the other strictly out of principle. Also I do not see Zegras being a SY type of player - at all.

@@pjpredhomme7699 I mean Alex Debrincat isn't really an Yzerman player.. he traded for him. Can't fill the whole team with hard-nosed 200' players. Zegras in his prime is probably a 50-60 assist guy who's probably over PPG. Detroit just doesn't have that in their system.

In all probabilities Detroit draft at #15 and another player who is 4 years development down the road. If they already had a shut down lights out goalie the rebuild would be more accelerated.

Big deal. 15th pick. Just someone else we won't see for 5 years. If they had a top 3 pick then there could be excitement.

Interesting analysis. The Wings will get a good player at 15, but who it will be is difficult to guess. I think Helenius may be the guy. I don't want Necas in Detroit. I think he'll cost too much to get and he's still unproven in my opinion. Ullmark would be expensive too, he'd be good, but too costly and I want Cossa and Augustine playing together in 5 years. Silayev will drop to someone and may end up being more offensive than scouts expect.

Necas has only averages 19 goals per season. Not enough offensive boost for trading future assets.

It feels like next year will be another wasted year. Unless they get really aggressive by getting rid of bad contracts and getting Raymond and Seider at really good numbers on bridge deals they won't have the cap space to drastically improve the team. Need a couple buyouts and a couple big trades and big free agent signings. But it sounds like Yzerman isn't going to do any of that.

The only problem with a long term deal now is that they are 30-31 years old when it ends. That’s means you are going to be paying another big contract. You sign a 3 year bridge and they are 34 when they come off, the prospect of an eight year huge payday is vastly reduced.

It's good that the wings are ranked #1 in the Prospect pipeline but how long is this rebuild. Maybe its time to dump some of these prospects and go for a 80+ point player. Who is on a contract year...because I feel that they are a couple moves away from competing

You missed two very crucial things from the press conference. When SY was asked about moving up he said don't expect Detroit to be in any big trades and that he's more than comfortable staying at 15. This was definitely a little disheartening considering I know he's trying to make moves but I feel he's not being aggressive enough in the market and that's not me saying I need him to go out and massively over pay for someone but I'm not overly optimistic about stay content in our current situation with FAs and possibly draft pick for this year. In 2021 we moved up 8 spots to get Cossa in exchange for 3 draft picks. What would the cost look like realistically to moved to the 10/11th pick?

Theres no way Paraschek falls to the second round. If we want him we'll have to take him at 15 which is exactly who i want them to take.

Thanks for the summer podcast. my personal and hopefully realistic draft picks for the Red Wings in the first round are Helenius pro: smart, good passer, understanding of the game con: not a goal scorer Eiserman pro: pure goal scorer, point collector con: bad defender Brandsegg-Nygard pro: can play in the NHL immediately, adapts to the game immediately con: probably won't get any higher than a 3rd line player Hage pro: very solid, high potential, is a diamond in the rough who can become something special (even better than the ones mentioned above)??? con: is perhaps a time project 2nd round picks Parascak, Pettersson, Miettinen, Masse. Misa 3 or lower round picks Becher, Burnevik, Eliasson, Fransen, Gamzin, Nordmark, Pulkkinen, Seger, Shahan, Svensson, Verreault, Vuollet, Wakely, Zether, Zetterberg As much as I would like to have Ulmark as a goalie, we would have to give up a lot (prospects, draft picks, etc.) and it wouldn't just be for 2-3 years, I think more like 6 years and I'm wondering if this deal would be worth it because we have two young goalie talents. What worries me are the bad contracts that have been made. In order to get rid of them or improve them, it will also be necessary to give up draft picks or prospects. We have to pay out 2 players because we can't trade them (Holl and Coop) Fabri, Veleno and Määttä are no problem to trade, maybe we'll get more back for sure Pettry will probably finish his contract year and that'll be fine If Kane doesn't want to play for us anymore, we should at least make a big investment. And I don't think Necas is that player. We have to give up a lot anyway to improve our team. In this case, we should really make an effort financially and in terms of players. The other positions should be filled with our young talents. It will be much harder to get into the playoffs next season. Ottawa, New Jersey, Buffalo and Philadelphia will give everything to get in.

Amazing how you reference Helm and laugh. He was a 5th rd pick. Payed 14 years . Won 2 cups. Was elite skater and great PK forward. So show some respect for what he brought over the years.

The laugh is due to a long-running bit in the listener fan base where there's a group of people who post & comments "Darren Helm is the Greatest Player of All-time" themed things. The laugh is a nod to them, not at Helm. We love Darren and constantly talk about this incredible penalty kill against Chicago, for example.
