2024 NHL Mock Draft - Celebrini Is A Shark, But Who Goes Second?

It's that time of year again as the 2024 NHL Draft rapidly approaches on Jun 28th. In honor of draft season, here is my 2024 NHL Mock Draft! We all know Macklin Celebrini is going first overall to the San Jose sharks, but who will the Chicago Blackhawks take at 2? Ivan Demidov? Artyom Levshunov? What about where players like Cayden Lindstrom, Zeev Buium, Zayne Parekh or Tij Iginla go? I have my thoughts, but would love to hear yours down in the comments!

Once the draft order was set, I was hoping the Kraken could get Zeev Buium with the 8th pick (most seem to think like yours that he will go 6th or 7th), but the more I see Dickinson. I really like his game, especially when he adds 15/20 pounds of muscle to be that anchor pushing bodies around in front of the net and it looks like he has enough offensive skill to be the 1 defenseman to assist on the power play.

Buium is the best D man of the crop. Not sure he is on the board at 8, but if he is, it’s a must pick

I wholeheartedly agree. Zeev Buium is the top target for the Kraken, but he's probably gone by 8 :(

This is the best 2024 mock I've seen - I'd actually lay money on your 1 thru 20 vs any of the other KZbin mocks that are out there.

@@nickh3698 I'm saying that this mock is one of the most intelligently & independently thought out of all the other mock drafts that I've personally seen on KZbin & the internet. I cant speak to the laser pin point accuracy of every single "prediction" here - but at least every choice is backed up by some semblance of critical thinking & sound logic. You can just tell that a lot of thought & independent analysis went into this work. It's not just the exact same hodgepodge - copy & paste/unoriginal/coat tail riding - list of popular choices - all in virtually the same order/pattern as most of the other mocks.

Awesome analysis. One thought for Nashville would be to try to trade up considering the stockpile of picks they have available. If Trotz wanted to get really aggressive and Catton or Helenius are available where you have them, I wouldn't be suprised if he makes an attempt to move up the 10 or 11 spots to get one of them. Nashville really needs help at center and someone like Catton or Helenius would be exactly what Nashville would be looking for.

Great podcast. Wild will take whoever the best player is that slips to them. Yakemchuk would be a solid fit as they are always too small on the backend.

Seattle has had scouts in Spokane several times. I think they take Catton.

Blues wont pick Connelly. Solberg or some other d-man is their target. Not another winger and definitely not Connelly.

I was going to comment the same thing. Solberg or Jiricek or I could see them going for a forward with high upside like Luchanko, Hage or Basha. I could see Helenius being available possibly and being the pick as well. They might try to trade down if it’s one of the forwards.

Sam Dickinson would be my preferred choice he definitely would be good quarterbacking the power play for the Kraken

If Parekh or Buium are of the board at 8th i take Catton over Dickinson for his ceiling... Hope we have luck and can take Parekh or Buium.

the habs would be wiser to take a forward at 26. yeah, we'll take one at 5, but we have too many dmen already, and our best forward prospect is joshua roy. mind you, roy's a great player, and can fit in on any line and be asked to do any job, but the high-end talent of a rebuilding team's best forward prospect is usually more. of the forwards you left available at 26, i'd rather have basha or stiga. that is, if we don't trade this pick... interesting pick of cole hutson at 32. he's...like his brother physically, but not quite as talented. lane sees the ice better. cole will still be good, it's just...with lane here, we don't need another small dman. philly's a good spot for him. they've already got an earlier 1st, and you went with a safe pick in helenius, so i like the skill bet at 32. also interesting you took two forwards for SJ. because they need defense in a bad way. if you're right on 14, may i suggest alfons freij for the sharks at 33.

As a Capitals fan I would prefer Jiricek, but I am happy with Hage as you project. I don't want Yakemchuk or Connelly because I am worried about them on defense.

Side question. Trying to build my hockey knowledge. On a line…..do you need a RHD and a LHD or can they both be the same hand? What’s the significance of being one hand dominate? How does it affect the way you play? If you’re playing defense shouldn’t you be able to reach out with either hand with the same effectiveness?

Don't think Lindstrom will be picked by the Habs. Given his back problems the concern is that he will not be able to complete 4 rounds of playoff hockey. There is a big difference playing against small defencemen in junior and playing against physical defencemen in a championship round. Why play if winning the Cup is the only acceptable outcome.

You were a WHL scout. What’s your opinion on Kevin Korchinski? I thought he was rushed to the NHL last season and should have been returned to Seattle in the WHL.

he fell because of the off ice and on ice issues. Mostly unrelated to his game on the ice. Anyone who doesn’t know just look it up. More than one incident

Sabres can live with Carton but something tells me they will get bigger with the 11th pick. Sabre's do have a lot of small quick skilled forwards already. Time will tell though.

with teams having a chance to talk to demidov yesterday i think he's a lock for 2nd overall no way anybody is gonna pass on him now that he's 6"1 and heavier. Also i don't understant how a guy can put out 116 point in the chl and not be top 10 atleast, this draft is so weird.

Good mock! However I do see Columbus going forward considering how jacked up their defensive roster is, and considering they’re gonna trade Laine. You have sold me on Dickinson, and if he’s there at 8, unless if someone like Demidov falls, he’s gotta be the pick.

Yeah, it would really have to be if they are scared off by Lindstrom's injuries or not totally sold on Iginla or Catton at 4. I really think they could move down as well with a team that would want Silayev

if demidov and lindstrom are gone by 5, i'd bet on iginla being the pick for the habs. personally i'd go catton in that scenario, but i'm more than happy with iggy. and in that case, the flames take either catton or whichever dman is left.

This is the most realistic mock I’ve watched. It’s going to be d heavy all the way to eight. I’m hoping one more offensive player comes off the board at 1-7…that would give one more shot at the D-apple. If lindstrom falls because of injury concerns, do you see Seattle taking him?

I think they'd really consider it. Yes the concerns are a concern, but he's a special offensive player who plays with size unlike anyone they've ever had.
