Did Ford actually look at the ADR for the F-150
@johnemerson5383
@johnemerson5383 Ай бұрын
Australian ADR's are stupid. Just go with the European design rules. They are very adequate for Australia and it means we'll get cheaper cars because makers don't have to do a special Australian model.

100% agree. But we have policy makers who think they are smarter than the rest of the world so it will never happen. Keeps people employed.

The daytime running lights should also include rear lights, too many have drls on amd forget to turn lights in even in rain or storms. Headlights are ridiculously blinding especially on utes , but we also need to make it easier for for manufacturers to bring in at a cheaper price.

A lot of new vehicles turn on all the lights automatically when the wipers are on.

Seeing as we don’t build our own cars, let’s adopt the US standard. Similar topography and speed limits.

I think I saw somewhere that the Maserati is over 300k? No mention of why this car costs this car should cost this much /is too expensive ? I could be wrong about that price.

Anything over 2ton needs to have a diesel powertrain option. Would buy a ram 1500 if it had a diesel…
@rich7447
@rich7447 Ай бұрын
The vehicles intended for the North American market won't normally have a diesel unless they have a GVM over 8,500lbs/3,856kg. The EPA makes it way too difficult for smaller vehicles to meet diesel emissions regulations. Ram 2500 and 3500 are both available with a diesel.
@bens5186

@@rich7447 Those vehicles are also about $40k more expensive than they should be. Our only hope is that someone eventually makes a factory RHD “pickup” with a big cummins diesel in it. When the factory does the conversion of the 1500 to swap to RHD maybe they should drop a diesel in it (just import bodies, leave the engines in the US)… I am not alone in being unwilling to own very large vehicles with a petrol engine.

@@bens5186 I do hear you about gas engines, although there are some arguments for gas over the current DPF, DEF, EGR diesels for those that aren't towing heavy (which no 1500 class pickup is). The Ram 1500 did have a 3L Motovitori diesel in it for a while and it was not very successful. Ford also dropped their 3L diesel and GM is the only one left offering a 3L diesel in a 1500 class pickup. While I wouldn't classify a Ram 1500 as very large, it does have some weight to it and the 5.7L Hemi has been in that particular truck since half way through the 2003 model year. I had one of the hemi equipped 2003.5s and it loved fuel. The issue with all the 6.6/6.7L diesels in pickups is that they are heavy. Ford and GM have got around this in the F250 and 2500HD by increasing the GWM to the point where it is actually no longer a class 2B truck. That is going to be a problem for any manufacturer trying to build anything that has one of these diesels, is drivable on a regular Aussie license, and has enough payload. I don't know why the Ram 2500 and 3500 is so much more than a 1500 is AUS. A 2500 is $5k more than a similar 1500 and the Cummins is a $10,000 USD option. The 3500 is $1000 more than the 2500 and it is a far better choice. My last truck was a 2011 Ram 2500 diesel which still had leaf springs in the back. It was a great truck, but I was always running out of payload even with a relatively light 14,000lb/6,350kg trailer. I recently replaced it with a Ford F450 and still have payload left when my gooseneck trailer is around 25,000 lbs/11,300kg (I have a class A truck license).

@@rich7447 I asked if diesel was an option in the 1500 a week ago when I was looking for a new ute. They said no. I just went with a hilux rogue while I wait for something at least 1500 size WITH a diesel. Aussie sized utes are too small IMO to tow big vans/boats. So I am stuck with a hilux and a tent for the time being… haha

@@bens5186 Hopefully the US HD pickups make it over to you at a little better price in the future. I really like the 2024 F450 King Ranch, but I only have about 3,500 miles on it at this point. Hopefully it doesn't give me too many issues. If you are ever in Maryland you can try it out.

Top tether is much worse than ISO-FIX. Not being able to buy a proper ISO-FIX in Australia due to it being illegal, shows how backward we are.

Australia should adopt and align to international standards. The cost to the car buyer here will not be insignificant and changes and improvements minimal. The nanny state is in full force and as usual, us Aussies just lay down and accept it. We are the scared state, yet pretend we are rugged and brave. Let’s be honest.

So we now use ECE 22.06 standards for motorcycle helmets in Australia. That’s European standard. Just get rid of ANCAP. They enforce tech that actually doesn’t work and cause safety issues.
