I am similar. Herbalism also helped me. Susun Weed and others. You can use the herbs you learn about (that grow near you and cost nothing) in your hair care routine. For example I use burdock in my scalp oil and tea. Its fun to learn the properties and how to gather it. Its amazing when you create something all by yourself but it WORKS!🤗🤗🤗

61 years here! Started these methods (as per Katherine’s instructions) about a year and a half ago. My naturally grey hair has gone from mid shoulder blade length to my hips in that time. It is thicker and stronger. I wash only once a month now with only positive results. I’ve made the oils as per her recipe and love it! Strongly recommend her methods. She’s done the work for us with her recipes and research, all we need is patience to see the growth! 🩷

I will be 50 in May and was told all my life that my "terminal" hair length was at my bra strap. I have cried every time my hair has been cut to my shoulders. I don't know what to do with short hair! My husband finally convinced me to just let it grow and see what happens. We met 7 years ago and I started this journey about 4 years ago I suppose. I have used some of these techniques intermittently, and my hair is now between mid back and waist length at the shortest layer and waist and hip length at the longest point. I'm curious to see how using them consistently will work... who knows? Maybe by the time I'm 60 it will be floor length and I can blow all of those myths out of the water!

I'll give the sage a try. I have rosemary oil I've used several times on my scalp and argan oil for the length. Just growing out a longer bob. Now I want to use the clay. I've certainly noticed a healthier feel, not so dry. Not so much hair in the boar brush. A plastic scalp massager came with the rosemary oil. This has been great because my scalp can get dry and itch. In winter it's worse and I would use a comb or stiff bristle brush. @@christineribone9351

I've incorporated several of your wonderful techniques to include Scalp Hero massager (it's awesome!), rhassoul clay hair washing, vinegar rinse, and a silica mineral tea (and I also use it as a face toner and hair rinse), silk pillowcase, and MSM supplementation which I also use in the mineral tea when rinsing with it. WHEW! I didn't realize how of your techniques I've incorporated. I need to order ingredients for the hair oil treatment. Also, I noticed you didn't include in this video the Immune/Mineral Tea. Btw, I have more hair coming in. So excited. TY so much! ❤

What I love most about this whole hair adventure is how much more my hair is my OWN now. I've come to the belief now that what I grew up with was essentially a man's haircare, meant only for short hair! And all those 57 years I was LONGING for those flowing, expressive manes... I didn't think that I was destroying my hair, roughly brushing it while it was wet etc. I'm one year in!!! Using Shikakai instead of clay myself. Once a week. Boar bristle brush a bit more often in the second half. Hair oil often but not every week, coconut oil just a smidge if it's a bit dry. I've got twice the volume of hair than in January 2023 and I love it🌸💖!!

I saw your first video on hair care roughly a year ago and immediately ordered some rhassoul clay. I wish I took more photos of myself to document the amazing transformation. My hair texture is the same as yours. It was down to my butt as a child, but I cut it to my shoulders around age 12 and it never grew long again! The longest it ever grew was maybe mid-back but the length was always thin and uneven. I was resolved to thinking my hair was just naturally dry, brittle, and unmanageable. My hair is curly like yours also, so I too sported the crunchy wet look and tried every mousse and gel available. I discovered the flatiron in high school, and subsequently fried it for the next decade. I discovered clip-in extensions in my 20's and wore those for the next decade. Altogether, I had hair woes for 30 years, subtracting the first 5 years of life when I didnt care. In the past year since I saw your video, my hair has grown from shoulder length to slightly below my natural WAIST! I was amazed at how manageable my hair was even the first time using clay. I could immediately feel and see the difference in texture. I've continued to use rhassoul clay, ACV, conditioner, and jojoba oil for some extra shine, and wash it every 10 to 14 days. My hair is not only long, but thick, shiny, and heavy. It requires ZERO styling products. I've shared your video with so many people. I could never adequately express my gratitude! 🙏 ❤

The overall health, shine and length of my hair is unreal. I NEVER received compliments on my hair until the last year. Best of all, this has been so much fun and a welcome routine. For those who are afraid of no poo, consider a few tiny drops of castile liquid soap with the aloe juice and water. I personally use a tiny bit of baking soda with water for my poo. It's what's best for me. Trust yourself and go for it. Katherine's advice is sound, proven, low cost, etc. Most of all, make it an adventure!

I have also been wadhing my hair with clay ever since and alternating betwren fenugreek and flaxseed. I have been using a satin hair sleep bonnet since July 2023 and I love it. I have been washing my hair once a week fof 14 years now. I can honestly say, that since ive incorporated several of your tips/routines, my hair has gotten so much thicker. And doesnt feel thin anymore. It reminds me of what my hair used to feel like in my 20's and 30's. My hair is dow. To my tailbone, but my lifelong goal is to have it reach my knees...or longer. @@asukamai87 The way clay cleans hair is by electrochemically binding to the molecules of oil and dirt on the hair/skin. Adding something acidic like ACV might be affecting that reaction. Modern shampoos combine the cleansing and softening steps of cleaning your hair, but clay will only do the cleansing step. Rinsing it out and then doing a separate ACV rinse (one option for the softening step) might work better for you. It also might help to do some kind of moisturizing treatment on your hair if it's stiff because it's dry.

I started this challenge last week before I knew about it! Lol.... Just getting into this type of hair care and have been binging these videos, so I'm looking forward to trying something new. I have been washing my hair once a week for about 18 years. I also have medium-thin, graying, somewhat wavy hair that is shoulder length and has not been growing very fast. I also struggle with itchy scalp. I've tried different things as my "shampoo" through the years with varying results, including ayurvedic herbs, shampoo bars, vinegar, and Castile soap. I also dye my gray hair regularly with henna. My hair doesn't get that oily because it's not used to being washed all the time, but it does look more dull than I'd like. I'm hoping that sleeping on my new silk pillowcase, using a boar bristle brush, talking msm, using hair oil, and clay washing will help. I'll definitely keep up with these steps throughout the next month. Thank you for this timely video, Katherine!

i’ve been watching your videos for a while, as well as have been through so many interest rabbit holes through the years of no poo, natural hair care, historical hair care, multi cultural methods of hair care, etc. i love learning the different ways people care for themselves and decentering the western universal ideals that i grew up with. watching this video i went in feeling that this could be a fun challenge to try - and yet watching it it’s very cool to see that i have incorporated almost all of these methods into my life already. my fat and the moon shampoo bar is a clay shampoo bar, i love my boar bristle brush, i swear by my homemade oil which incorporates herbs from both western herbalism, auyerveda, and my familys middle east herbal hair care remedies. i can’t go without my acv rinse and have my hair in braids almost everyday due to being a baker. i love all these steps and they feel like genuine caring ways of treating my body. i’m always glad to see your videos talking about these ways of treating our hair and hope you keep making them

Cool your video just popped up in my KZbin suggestions! So glad to see someone else who values long lovely hair! I was raised by a mom hair stylist so after high school it was just natural to go to cosmetology school myself! That was In the 80’s & I was a rare student as my goals were not to cut hair off but to learn how to grow it & maintain it as I loved having my long hair! My take away & sentiment back then & now was/is basically “yall just leave your hair alone & let it grow!” Cosmetology students are maniacal about always messing with their own hair which usually leads to crispy overly processed chemically burned hair with very little left to chop off! Lol I can’t say I’m as natural about my hair care as you but overall I’ve maintained mid back to waist length hair most of my life. *But I can not give up my blonde highlights! I just cannot stand my drab natural dirty blonde color (now sprinkled with grays) so I will color it for life! But I am careful about coloring chemicals being as mild & minimal as possible to still keep the length & the color I prefer…I do use conditioning treatments sometimes for the dryness of coloring. As a former cosmetologist I’ve always subscribed to washing only once a week or longer, scalp massage at bedtime, air drying, satin pillow cases, finger picking over brushing, loose braids buns or ponytails & not using styling products at all. I do cut bangs & face framing layers & gently heat style only on occasion. I will say that menopause has presented a few new hair challenges such as thinning & hot flashes/night sweats… I sleep with my hair loose now & use a fan so scalp sweat is not trapped… I think there are variations of extremes to natural hair care but I agree that the hair product industry has caused more damage than good trying to get consumers to buy products. So I still go with the ‘less is best’ (leave it alone!) approach for growing & maintaining my mid back length colored hair!

I found out yesterday that using kaolin clay to wash very light coloured hair works really well too when that’s all the clay you have. It mixed up light and fluffy and was very soothing on my tender scalp. It did a really good job of my hair that was quite oily from having massaged my sore scalp with emu oil a couple of days before. That too was soothing. I thought my hair would be a tangled mess when I was finished, but, nope; it rinsed out easily. Mind you, my hair is fine and only slightly wavy. I’m going to try the kaolin as a dry shampoo when my roots get too oily for the boar brush.

I've kinda started similar steps previously and will be joining the challenge. My current hair state is not great, not only is my hair currently blue but I have been experiencing massive hair loss after my surgery almost a year ago now. For me I think the biggest challenge is going to be protective styles that I can get in my hair.

A little late but I tried rhassoul for the second time ever yesterday and I absolutely love the result. My hair is shiny and happy and clean!! I use herbal infused vinegar all the time but the clay was a total game changer. My hair grows really fast, so we will see how it looks in another year. right now it is only touching my shoulders and I'm having a hard time figuring out protective hair styles for my multi-length hair.

Count me in! Thank you for this clear set of steps. It has clarified things for me so much! One note for other silver haired long-hair journeyers like me: the rhassoul clay definitely left a reddish cast on my hair. I'm trying kaolin clay instead, as it's colorless. So far so good!
@thedoodle2009
@thedoodle2009 11 ай бұрын
Nice to know about the Kaolin clay. I currently use a raw egg and the ACV rinses, but good to know of a backup option! Question: Have you followed her hair oil method in infusing the oil with henna? If so, have you noticed any color changes with your hair?
@AnneElizabethHawley
@AnneElizabethHawley 11 ай бұрын
@thedoodle2009: I haven't. I use an oil blend that includes rosemary and cloves plus some moringa powder (based on a different KZbinr's recipe) and I'm leery even of the little bit of green and brown in that. It took me a long time for my hair to go silver and I'm learning how sensitive it is to even mild colorants! Do you mix egg & ACV? And do you leave it in?
@thedoodle2009
@thedoodle2009 11 ай бұрын
That makes sense! I will stay away from the henna oil then just in case. For the raw egg wash, I whisk the egg and just put that directly on my hair. I then massage it in and rinse it out. Then I use the diluted raw apple cider vinegar rinse after that and only let that one sit for a minute or two before rinsing it out. Since I use eggs, it can be difficult to rinse it all out, but once the hair is dry any bits that maybe left will fall out. That may bother some people, but I'm fine with it since it falls out when the hair is dry after running my fingers through it. Just an FYI, if you are doing a pre oil treatment before hair wash I have had to use two eggs to get all the oil out.

Well, I discovered your channel 1 week and a half ago and tried your routine for the 1st time 5 days ago. I am going to copy paste my comment so it will be easier for me to find it and update it. "01/14 : I tried this routine for the 1st time and OMG, my hair looks amazing!!! I have curly hair (3b, 3c) and my curls are really defined and shiny for cheap (my normal routine costs 176€ vs 37€ here without counting the cost of tools). Let's see how it goes in the long term, I hope to see growth. I did pre-poo with coconut oil, dry detangled with my hands, did 4 braids (even though my hair is way shorter), washed with rhassoul (I let it sit for 3 minutes), rinced with ACV that I let in my hair (I used to rince with ACV a few years ago so my hair is used to it), then I styled it with my denman brush and flaxseed gel (I put some hibiscus in it for the color), let my hair dry first with my diffuseur in cold air then naturally and I finished with broccoli oil (known for being light on the hair and is anti frizz). I don't know how long it will lasts, I hope it will stay that way for at least 3 days then I will do protective hairstyle. I hope I will remember this comment to do an update for 1st month 3rd month, 6th month and 1st year." 01/19 :I can already say 5 days later that my hair lasted 3 days like I wanted, then I did protective hairstyles using my flaxseed gel, broccoli oil and my boar bristle brush (already had one). I will do my 2nd wash in 2 days.

However, I'm going to make your hair oil recipe and also add in regular scalp massages. I've never had hair past my bra. It grows slow &/or breaks off before it can get long. I'm hoping with these methods to get my hair to at least waist length. 🙏💗🙏 I'm afraid to do the clay wash, because i have a septic system.

I know that will help my hair so much! I am most likely going to purchase a boar bristle brush. Though I do currently use a vintage hair brush I found in an antique store. I use an egg to wash my hair every 7-10 days. I already apply sweet almond oil after a shower because the egg drys my hair out a little. I love rinsing my hair in rosewater! (Rose tea, technically).

I’m in! I started on no shampoo recently and came across this channel. I’ve got super fine, stick-straight hair. That makes things like detangling and combing easy peasy, but other things are challenging. Any amount of oil makes my hair look like wet spaghetti. My scalp isn’t oily but that makes my ends dry. I can’t do some of the funner protective styles, because I just don’t have enough hair. I can’t use scrunchies or most hair sticks or pins; they fall out. But I’m learning to just embrace the claw clip during the day and a couple of braids at night. I’m also growing out a little fringe bang I’ve had for ten years and it’s making me deeply uncomfortable 😅 BUT that will give me a great way to assess a month’s worth of growth! So far I’ve already reduced washing to once a week; if I don’t use any oils I can wash with no-poo methods, but the oils for sealing ends or the herbal oil (which I made and used for the first time today) definitely require more. I’ll order some clay and see if that works but I’m a bit skeptical given how fine my hair is. We’ll see!

hi i know it's a bit late for those who started this challenge but here is everything i learned so far , i have 3b fine low porosity curly hair ,the front of my hair is very dry the back is normal this is what has helped me so far each his own body and experience , one year no poo , my hair never grew past my chin now it chest length 1- i wash with boiled distilled water 5litre each wash it cheap here 2-oil trt never helped my scalp ,cause it is very sensitive and acne prone i do herbal infusion instead "you just replace oil with water and apply with a spritzer" each week even when it's not wash day it contain chamomille ,hibiscus; fenugreek (just a tsp) rosemary ginseng basil and amla , wait for 4hr then wash . 3- i wash my hair with sidr leaves( it has saponin in it so it lather ) or soap nuts every 2weeks and clay every month and acv of course 4- i oil my ends with very lightweight oil , avocado oil helped me so far , sometimes i mix a bit of sheabutter with it 5- protective style my favorite is twists and always in a silk bonnet at night and silk pillow 6 - a good pair of scissors so you cut split end or if you trust your hair dresser 7- always dry your scalp with hair dryer after washing trust me 8- massage your scalp after washing your hands with soap every day for 10 min be very gentle i put my favorite show to pass the time 9-hair mask egg +honey + banana a game changer every month 10- work out 11- henna mask every 6months or 3 depends on my hair 12- if you have adhd i suggest you just do a day in a week probably weekend to take care of your hair otherwise just put it in silk bonnet 13- don"t detangle your hair when it wet and use your fingers to detangle on the first week it actually work fight the temptation to just rip those knot with a hair brush 14-listen to your scalp then your ends 15-trim only when necessary 16- never ever use bicarbonate on scalp that the number one no poo thing that nearly destroyed us 17- don't do water only it doesn't work , it just logic 18- if you have fine low porosity hair like me you will notice that flaxseed and aloe vera don't do the trick i honestly still didn't find an alternative i just avoid them 19- sisal hair brush for vegan and goat hairbrush for muslims. and finally i truly thank katherine for showing us that curly hair can strive with no poo and without needing all the mousse, gel ,leave in ,deep conditioner ,conditioner ,clarifying shampoo no offense to those who love it but for me i thought that without those my hair would never look good it getting too much for us curlies and too heavy on our wallet to just look decent for 3 days , i went to a wedding with a twist out the other day , my relatives asked me about what leave in and serum i use because it didn't frizz at all and looked so healthy and glossy i was so happy beacuse i just opened my twist and was ready in 15 min , i used to spend 4 hours to be ready and it would end up frizzy by 2 i struggled all my life with dandruff and a very painful and itchy scalp tried every shampoo available even professional shampoo that costed a lot and very good conditioner my scalp would get itchy by day 3 but the thing is my hair doesn't get oily but because of those problem i needed to wash every 4 days so it was always a dry mess , i used to scratch my head until it become painful to touch. i stumbled upon katherine and prior knowledge on sidr leaves and decided to just do it best decision of my life my scalp doesn't hurt me anymore .

I’m on this CHALLENGE 💪! I have curly hair and have been using natural products for the past two years. My hair has changed drastically, becoming softer and shinier. However, I've recently noticed it’s getting thinner and shedding more. I was trying to figure out why until I came across Katherine's videos. I've realized I was oiling and washing my hair with natural shampoo too roughly, rubbing my scalp hard and weakening my hair follicles. Now, I’m learning to handle my hair more gently. I’m excited to see the results from this challenge, and I'm hopeful my hair will grow longer! By the way, I’m using Christ's Thorn Jujube powder to wash my hair. Let me know if you’ve ever tried it! I have also had fantastic results with this method. Yes the clay and ACV washes are key for me but my relationship with my hair has changed most by learning to STOP brushing hair when wet. I believe this is a huge reason my hair would never grow past chest length. As well as the hairstyles you recommend. I no longer keep a pony tail in for more than a few minutes at a time I am so much more gentle with my hair and scalp.

I didn’t comment yet, but I have been doing the challenge all month! Next month will be one year since I have dyed my hair and I have been leaning more toward products with safer ingredients. I have been washing my hair once a week for the past month and last week was my first time washing with the Rassoul clay. It took a bit of rinsing, and then I had to rinse some more when I noticed it on my boar bristle brush the following day (lol), but it’s a learning process! My hair felt clean afterward and I will repeat this again for this next week (with more rinsing despite the water getting colder so much more quickly in the winter). I am excited about the time I have gained by not washing my hair as frequently with the crazy schedule I have. Now I am excited to see how my hair will grow over the next few months. I do not plan to stop once February ends!

I tried the clay thing last year, but I couldn’t get it right. I probably didn’t give it enough time as you said in your video it takes time for your scalp to adjust, but I just couldn’t take my hair being so greasy so I went back to commercial shampoo. I use Surface though, which is a natural based haiecair line and it’s very expensive. Luckily I get a discount as a licensed hairdresser. I think that and purology are the next best thing if your hair can’t adjust to her tips or you don’t have the time to concoct your own.

The hair was so thin at the ends, it had to come of... i am now at shoulder length hair, maybe little shorter... the biggest gamechanger was my sleeping cap, i use it now about two years and i have no breakage at all... i hope this time i can get long hair and i am possitive your routine will help❤

I know it’s a little late but I am very inspired to start a few of these practices. I lost so much hair after having my daughter two years ago that I just shaved all my hair off. It’s been growing SO slowly since then. Its basically a grown out pixie now. It used to grow so fast. Hoping I can kick start some growth. My hair will probably become nice again just in time for another baby lol.

This is lovely! I found you in the last year and implemented a couple of your recommendations. I'm a stay at home mom/hair stylist (in home also). I have color damaged hair and have been wanting to grow it. Just by adding AVC rinses, scalp/end oil treatments and the boar bristle brushing, I saw definite growth! I got off the band wagon to do a more wavy method routine. Then I went to get a trim and I saw how damaged it looked and noticed it didn't seem like it had retained much growth from the previous trim several months ago. I left disheartened, but knowing if I went back to regularly adding the methods in I did before, I'd see growth again. 🥰 I'm probably a 40-50% in since I'm not doing all the methods, but I'm so pleased to see results with just that! Thanks for sharing your wisdom!

I tried using rhassoul soap made for hair washing but it was too drying S my hair is thick and very curly s o now i use castille soap mixed with coconut milk and distilled water. I do use the oils you suggested including caccao butter which is really hydrating and leave them in overnight

I've already incorporated a lot of what I've learned from your hair videos, but there's a few things I'm not doing yet: -Clay wash -Sealing ends with jojoba after a shower -Hair growth formula -MSM -Daily scalp massage -Night time protective styling I think I will try the clay wash and the daily scalp massage. I've been using the same all-natural shampoo for over 20 years and I find that my scalp health is much better when I use a shampoo with tea tree oil, so I'll be adding some tea tree oil to the clay wash. When I get out of the shower, I use mousse on my ends to keep the waves from falling out of my fine hair, so I'm going to add jojoba to that. I already have the jojoba but I have been putting it on my ends when my hair's already dry, I need to start trying that step right before I scrunch mousse into my hair. I'm still using partly historical and partly Wavy Girl hair care methods. I did try the flax seed hair gel, but it made my hair look dull, as if I didn't wash it, so I went back to mousse. I intend to continue experimenting and find the best combination of methods that work for me.

I got my boar bristle brush last month, as I needed a new brush. I have been finger dry detangling for 8 years now, so I replaced my broken detailing brush with this one. I am very happy with my less oily scalp and more oiled ends.

Thank you! Yes definitely doing this. For me most important things to focus on are: dry finger detangling, protective hairstyles night and day, oiling and clay washes.

I love henna. I add tea, oils, honey, yogurt, egg,. My straight thin hair to seal i can actually manage a heavy castor oil, but love tea tree, argon, grape seed and sunflower oils.

I'm in. I found your channel a year ago when I got really concerned about my hair. I do a lot of scuba diving, so my hair is wet just too often. However, after watching your videos on hair care, I've begun washing it once a week and this on itself made a difference. I've also been using a lot of oils (coconut, jojoba, argan) and washing my hair with eggs (struggling to find rhassoul clay, so I went for a substitute), but still hesitating to give up modern shampoos completely. I feel like this challenge could give me courage to do so.
