I'm creole and this is how I grew my long thick hair. Although, I can't convince people this is really what I do. They're convinced my hair just naturally grows this way or it's not for every hair texture. Sure my hair does grow, but I also care for it to retain length and keep it healthy. I like to put a shower cap and warm wet towel on my hair and let it sit. I'll repeat that all day if I'm not gong any where for a hot oil treatment before I shampoo. Checking to see if you posted clay wash videos, haven't tried that yet but I've always been interested.

I've been "homeless" almost a year. I say "homeless" (with air quotes) bc unlike so many, I DO have a roof, of sorts, over my head. I live in a warehouse, the roof has holes, rivers of water pour from the roof when it rains hard, floods the place. There's no heat, or hot water. I do have a sink (to get potable water from) and a shower stall. But the water is so cold, and it's been so cold, the thought of standing in an ice cold shower....brrrr. It's too cold to even wash my hair, with water, in the sink. So, I've found alternatives. Wet wipes to clean my body. My hair is long....so a bit tricky to keep clean. I spray rubbing alcohol all over my scalp, use fingernails to scrub scalp real good. Then thoroughly brush it. As rubbing alcohol will dry the scalp if used everyday, I don't use it everyday. I do comb it thoroughly everyday. I mix a bit of conditioner with water, then spray that on after. My hair looks better, and is more manageable, than when I shampooed every day.

Do you experience split ends and if you do, how do you deal with them?
@KatherineSewing2 сағат бұрын
Yes I do - the main way I deal with them is by trimming them off periodically, actually! And then I try to prevent them by being gentle with my ends, applying oils, etc.

Thank you❤ for your advice to comb hair in short gentle movements from ends to roots❤. I can already see fewer hairs left on my comb. Words "selfcare" and "hair care" now have meaning for me. The process of gently and patiently combing hair makes me feel feminine. Thank you ❤

Have you tested the Rhassoul clay you use for heavy metals?

Clay question: heavy metals in 'healing clays'? According to the FDA, NIH, & WHO clays contain arsenic, lead etc. Have you tested what you use for heavy metals?
@KatherineSewing15 сағат бұрын
I source my rhassoul clay from a reputable organic brand. Rhassoul Clay (which I use and recommend) is also considered one of the safest clays to its natural purity and low contamination risk.

What are your thoughts on the Mason Pearson boar bristle brush? I read your blog post on boar bristle brushes, and all the ones linked looked much fuller than a Mason Pearson BBB. You also said you would prefer a BBB that is an exact replica of an ancient BBB. I was interested in getting a Mason Pearson, but now I am wondering if there are better options out there, even though Mason Pearson is supposed to be "the best". I was wondering if you think the Mason Pearson would be a good option, even though it does not look as full, regardless of price.
@KatherineSewing15 сағат бұрын
I'm certainly not an expert on the brand, but from what I've seen, Mason Pearson's brushes tend to have mixed boar and nylon bristles. I use and recommend 100% boar bristle brushes. Though these 100% BBB's can require a few extra steps for to use for those with thick hair, the lower chance of breakage is worth it. I also like brushes that have closely packed, dense bristles. Nothing against Mason Pearson though, their brushes are beautiful.

I had basically a buzz cut 6 years ago this coming Mother’s Day. Then a little trim when it got to that shaggy stage. And nothing since. It’s longer than it’s ever been. I wash about every 5-7 days. It’s wavy and about 3” down my bum. I had to change my diet drastically almost 15 years ago maybe part of it. I’ve only used a hair dryer and curling iron once. I braid at night and use a little leave in conditioner on the ends once in a while. I still have a little oily hair and comb through morning and night. I would have never imagined it this long at 64.

Heyoo- I recently moved to the clay haircare October 2024. My hair definitely went through a transition. It seemed much thinner at first. It did not look amazing, especially when the light shown through my hair at the right angel. It's been 4 months no shampoo and my hair is looking great. My waves are still there, my hair never gets greasy(ever!) But I do use a lot less oil and I still use a regular conditioner. Rinse out with cold water (always cold) and use the ACV rinse. I'm stoked👍

Have a friend with beautiful hair. Her secret was she rinses her hair with water while showering and does combing the hundred strokes to bring the natural oils to all her hair. Has not used soap or shampoos in 40 years. I was shocked but her hair is beautiful.

I don't know, that hair looks greasy and tangled. I use baby shampoo and no-silicone conditioner with add-ons (lemon, castor oil and gelatine). The method that works for me for lessening hair shedding is spraying green tea on the roots a couple of hours before washing. My hair is 3C and current length is a medium, yet the amount shed from washing is my pinky tip's size. I would try more natural stuff, but there's also the concern of accessibility of these products and even the smell.

Sodium Laureth sulfate is very bad for the hair and causes damage/ breakage. This chemical is added to shampoo to make it sudsy. I found out the hard way. It ruined my hair big time😠😡😠😈👿😈👿😈👿😈👿😠😡😠😡😠 I no longer use mainstream shampoos. I look for one w/ out that chemical.

I don't want to have or keep super long hair but I do want new hair to grow and I want more hair, healthy hair. I've had hypothyroid and nutrient deficient hair loss/issues for about a decade and I can't even wear my hair down anymore because it's just so thin and brittle looking. This said, about a month ago I started taking Happy Body's Organic MSM Sulfur Crystals and the new hair growth is honestly quite unbelievable and I am only taking half the dosage half the time. I saw the hair benefits within a couple of weeks and now a month in Hair texture and scalp health appear ever slightly improved. What's funny is that I tried taking MSM a couple of times in the past (8 months ish ago) and each time I would get rashes on the tops of my feet. Not sure why I can take it without any issues now but I think it must be because I've really cleaned up my diet and my toxic load might not be as much. Anyway, I just wanted to put this here for the comment readers because a detox reaction isn't a necessarily bad thing, it might just be an indication that you have a little more cleaning up to do and If I were to do it again I would have kept going with the MSM instead of stopping all together.

I tried the clays and the natural ways to cleanse, but (may be unfortunate) they don't work for me. I think it may be our hard water that messes with the effectiveness and cleansing process itself. Also I have SD, seborrheic dermatitis and I have to use specialized/medical shampoo. Back when my hair was classic length (over the bum) I tried it all, now that I cut my hair back to (for me and my life currently) a more manageable length, I am back to using a more standard way to care for my hair and I love it; we're all different. But I have always admired the folks who can go the natural route, and your hair certainly is amazing! I think, for you it's the right choice!

I also don’t use shampoo a lot. I just wash my scalp off in the shower with water and maybe use a rag to wipe off the excess oil. And I put castor oil at the ends.

This can be used in hair and is a wonderful clarifying/detoxing treatment. The flip side of that is it can be more drying than rhassoul clay. This may be fine for you depending on your hair type, though.
