Geoff update here: I had to go all the way back to 1975 to find a BP lineup I liked as much as this one
@ZO6Buccaneer9 ай бұрын
1975 is easily the best best picture lineup ever. All 5 films have a realistic claim at being 5-star masterpieces, while most years have at least one choice that’s a real head-scratcher. When Steven Spielberg is possibly the least regarded director of the best picture nominees in a year…

May December peaked early. I was hoping that it will get more love this award season but I think the release date affected its hype.

Re adapted screenplay, the writers branch clearly put a lot of emphasis on the “adaptation” as compared to the source material. I haven’t read Killers of the Flower Moon, but as you said in the video, I understand how a lot of voters could view that adaptation less positively compared to the source material. I did read Zone of Interest in anticipation of the movie, and Glazer did a fascinating job of completely rethinking how to tell the story compared to the original novel. Both the novel and movie have similar themes, but they explore them in far different ways. Glazer eliminated two of the main characters from the novel and instead chose to focus primarily on the dynamic between the commandant and his wife (the plot points also being very different from the novel). I easily see how the writers branch gave significant credit to Glazer for his unique approach to the adaptation of Amis’s novel.

This is a great thought

Scorsese intentionally wrote the Killers of the Flower Moon from the POV of the Osage victims of the Reign of Terror rather than the criminal investigation POV of the book. Like you, I loved the book and honestly would have enjoyed a purer adaptation of it. Killers of the Flower Moon was a beautifully crafted project that I hope will raise awareness of the brutal history of America's indigenous people.

Ohh, 25 minutes! I got something to enjoy with dinner, you two have solid takes always and actually review the films with some depth unlike other yt reviewers who just recite the plot and quip about it.

At first I thought I liked how you reviewed movies. But I also like how you talk together, even when you have different opinions. You really listen to each other.

I’d say The Holdovers got in editing purely because it’s strong in the Picture race. That’s the path for movies of its kind to get into that category

I'm still upset that Japan did not choose to submit Monster.

I guess I'm the only gay man who was amused by, but not impressed by Barbie...it definitely belonged in the adapted screenplay category (but not nominated) because I consider it as a female version of Pinocchio...how much more derivitive can you get??? (Toy is alive, toy feels unfulfilled at home and goes on an adventure in the real world, toy makes mistakes in the real world, toy learns from it's mistakes and returns home to save the day, toy becomes a real person because of it's lessons learned and successes after.) Yawn. I just don't get how everyone thought this was somehow groundbreaking or original. Cute, funny, and nostalgic, yes..but also very preachy, not complimentary of women to me, and trying too hard. I get it made a lot of money, but it just isn't original in any way.

Being placed in the adapted screenplay isn't about being derivative.
