Congratulations on 1000 miles! Quite the achievement! I know the permit checks and bear cans are a pain, but trust me. They make a BIG difference! Yosemite is a VERY popular park in the most populated state in the country (there's around 40 million of us). So the wilderness can get very crowded and damaged without pacing all of us. And yes, there are still plenty of people who try to duck the permit system, so that means there's a need for more backcountry rangers. Bear cans have also made a big difference in bears becoming habituated to human food which means less problem bears. Problem bears almost always have to be put down 😞. So I know the cans are a pain, but they really do make a difference. So thank you for using them and keeping our bears wild.

Hi guys congratulations on 1000 miles. My go to for the mosquitoes is TEE TREE OIL you have to put it on straight or mix with water and spray on. I have used it in your situation it’s has a aroma but the bugs mosquitoes don’t like it I have sat outside in heavy mosquitoes and not gotten one bite you have to put it on everywhere it works for me at home I just started using VANILLA MIXED WITH RUBBING ALCOHOL in a spray bottle on my bedding and around my bed room it works great sleep with or without a sheet no bites. I found this on KZbin. I hope you able to find something that works for you.

Do you think where you grew up plays a role in your connection to the trail? I know you and Hollywood are from the Midwest/East Coast. As someone who was born and raised in the PNW I have a deep emotional connection to the wilderness and the trails here. Like, I’m rooted physically and spiritually to the land of the west coast. I don’t know, just a thought about why y’all might be having less of an emotional experience on the PCT.

That's a big 1k 🎉 Congrats on reaching that big milestone! I'm glad you got the relief from mosquitoes for awhile. I forgot to mention this in my last comment: Mosquitoes are attracted to dark colors, heat, and CO2. Find light colored clothes before you reach the mosquito heaven known as Oregon, light tan or even white is best. I slow down before reaching camp so I can cool off and lower my breathing rate, it helps sometimes 🤷♂️

Congratulations on 1000 miles! I wonder if the PCT has been your first long hike if you’d feel differently about reaching that significant mile marker. 🤔 Thanks for taking us along!

should sleep with the insoles. be dry as shit by morning. congrats on the 1000!

I’d avoid that! The insoles would be dry, but the moisture goes into the down quilt.

Much better perspective, next winter study mosquitos there seem to be people who are genetically predisposed to attract them! Consider yourself lucky!

Congrats on 1000! Since the AT was your first distance through hike. It let you know you could push yourself through the miles and any suffering, How much do you think that plays into being more excited about the milestones there? Last year is when I found hikers videoing their hikes so I am pretty new to watching hiking videos. I watched Goobs Adventures finish his triple crown and he kind of talked about the trails and how each has its own place to him. So I am just wondering as well if it is because you both are from the East if that is influencing your thoughts. I am from Colorado and I go to Ga. Al. and Virginia to see friends. But when I am on my way home from a visit and I am driving up Raton pass N.M. to the Colorado state line my entire mood and everything changes. I know I am back home.

Brother, I know you’re a veteran hiker, but being an old dude I don’t even get out of bed to PeeUc KNIGHT’S. I just get me a flexible, Nalgene bottle and P and that not to be rude or anything but you skip them skeeters the cold and stumbling around in the dark just a suggestion, my friend Da Breeze You’re in your tent most of the time anyway just don’t mix it up for lemonade 😂
