@topspot483411 ай бұрын
Bad comparison. This is a high end bike, therefore you'd want to compare a high end moto which are well over $100k. These mountain bikes require tighter tolerances, and more premium materials. If you made a moto using the same materials, and made the same quantity, the moto would be 10x more expensive. It's a premium bike from a premium brand, lotta people are just jealous cause they can't afford one.

KTM 450 Factory edition is the same price as the Pivot and already has all the high end parts that KTM offer for it, beyond that level would be like building the Pivot above the highest level Pivot offer@@topspot4834

@sandycarmichael3111 ай бұрын
Nice work Wil 👍. Never ridden a Pivot but I aspire to one day and the Switchblade is probably the model I'd pick if given the chance. Must have great to test the latest Switchblade on Pivot's own test trails in AZ. How close is the switchblade in climbing performance to the 429 and how close is it to descending performance to the Firebird? Another contrast I'd be interested in hearing about how the updated dw-link compares to the more affordable dual link Giant Maestro platform?
@FlowMountainBikeYouTube11 ай бұрын
Thanks very much Sandy! It was an awesome experience riding some of the trails around Pivot's HQ in Arizona, the terrain was incredible and we got to see some cool stuff in the R&D facility. Regarding the Trail 429 and the Firebird, I'd say overall the new Switchblade is closer to the Firebird now. It's still a great pedalling bike for sure, it's just plusher and more stable on the descents with the updated geo and suspension platform. It'd be interesting to outfit the Trail 429 and the Switchblade with the same wheels and tyres to get a comparative test in regards to climbing abilities, but I think overall the lower weight and snappier pedalling of the Trail 429 would give it the edge. The Maestro platform also works really well, which you'd expect given the two designs aren't exactly worlds apart. I have found that Giant's latest designs have trended more towards traction and plushness over outright pedalling efficiency, whereas Pivot still puts a lot of emphasis on stability. We're currently organising a Switchblade frameset to build up as a long-term test bike, so it'll be great to get it onto local trails and provide some more comparative feedback - stay tuned! [Wil]

While I'm not one of them, there are people who pay for bikes like this and that's OK. I drive Honda vehicles on the same roads as people who drive BMW Ms and Merc AMGs. That being said, a rider on a Polygon or Marin is not having any less fun than someone on this beautiful superbike.

I paid close to 10k for my pivot during the pandemic. And it was constantly on back order. Just because you can’t or won’t pay for it, doesn’t mean that there doesn’t exist others who have the means to relatively easily pay for a 20k bike. That said, I don’t have a single 20k bike either haha. I preferred multiple 10k bikes which I can then use to swap and ride on different occasions. One bike for each day of the week if I wanted to 😅

I bought a Pivot Switchblade in 2019. Amazing bike but it started creaking a couple of years ago. $1500 sunk into it so far trying to resolve the noise but the creaking keeps getting worse. I'll never buy another Pivot.

Starting at $10k is a joke. Time for you guys to review more affordable bikes that don't require selling your kidney!

Yeh but they do.. multiple Marins and Polygons, Meridas etc. Its a great review and if I able too, I'd get one of these. Not too slack, but plenty of travel and generous reach numbers... A genuine All Mountain bike (I ride the Norco Sight).

If 10k is a “sell your kidney price”, I think your perception it’s more a “you” problem than anything else. If it was 100k or something like how things are in the hifi world, where 10k is more often than not just the starting point for most systems of appreciably good performance, I’d understand lol. But it’s just 10k, most ppl could easily get that with half a year worth of saving. I would get this too if I didn’t feel guilty of having the previous switch blade and only ridden it 5 times since I got it during the pandemic.

To be honest the downside is the supper boost! Only three manufacturers might use this. Having a rear wheel with a supper boost is a big challenge if you are in the middle of no where. Even many bike shops do not carry supper boos wheels. Honestly I looked at pivot and for me is a big no no. Similar to mixed wheels. Supper boost and mixed wheel for typical buyers is a big! NO. I decided for yeti which to my opinion is a better bike. Professional XC, enduro, downhill riders are winning with boost only. Why supper boost? .
