Polestar is almost ready to launch what will be the Chinese-Swedish EV brand’s new volume-seller in Australia: the clever new 2024 Polestar 4 mid-size electric SUV.
Touted as a rival for the likes of the new Porsche Macan EV - not to mention Australia’s most popular electric vehicle, the Tesla Model Y - the Polestar 4 will hit Aussie roads from August in two powertrain guises.
Here, Sam Charlwood gets up close with the Polestar 4 in Australia for the first time. It makes quite the first impression and it won’t look back - literally.

I'm still hesitating :-) Not sure what the driving experience will be. No testdrives possible yet here (NL). Now driving a M3 Performance so I will be better...but how much better?!

Can't wait to get mine in August. When it comes to no rear window, I think it's much better with camera. Put 2 to 3 people in the back seat of any car, how much will you see out from the rear view mirror.

The back seat really is quite a different experience - and a positive one. It won't be for everyone but worth checking out.

This is much more a competitor to the Macan and other mid-size Euro SUVs given the features, design, and the fit and finish. When compared to the new Macan EV it’s a fairly compelling offering because it offers a great deal for the price. Fully optioned with the performance pack, Napa leather, H/K sound system I think it sits just under the $130K mark. I think the Hyundai and Kia comparisons are off, personally.

I was in shanghai china for a business trip, I was soo lucky to sit inside this car on a test drive. Oh boy its a good car. The top spec is like a Macan GTS on crack! But with way more rear passenger space!

Do you know why this version of the Polestar 4 have less black accents on the side and front back? Will the Australian version have the full black accents around the body?

Yes, the black accents are standard. The full body colouring is optional. Personally, I prefer the accents as they break up the shape a bit.

@@lukephillips1521 Oh I totally disagree. This is very Polestar in several respects (from the light clusters to the profile to the interior design materials/shapes/typography). It is certainly minimalist, but minimalist doesn’t equal generic. There’s really nothing on the road like this at the moment. When you see it in person, it’s super distinctive. Perhaps that’s hard to convey through video. But I saw one up close at a mall recently and you can’t miss it.
