Thank you! I think it’s undoubtedly easier to scare from film when more senses are manipulated. It’s easier to find books that disturb than scare. Though that’s another wormhole.

Have you read Baby X by Kira Peikoff? It’s a scifi thriller. When you said you hadn’t had a 5 star yet this year that book came to mind. It was a 5 star for me and idk why but I feel like you might like it ☺️

OMG. Incidents Around The House was THE FREAKIEST book I have ever read. I shit you not, it scared me so badly at one point I started to cry. But I also know what scares people is wildly subjective, so YMMV of course ...but it really got to me! But aside from that...wow, so many good books in this list! I've already read Ghost Station, The Gathering, The Midnight Feast, The Eyes Are The Best Part, and of course the Josh Malerman book--and all of them were pretty great. I had a problem with the first S.A. Barnes book that I won't get into but all I will say is that it looked like it might have been going in that direction in Ghost Station, but it never actually went there, which I appreciated. And Midnight Feast was actually may favorite Lucy Foley book so far! I've got the Paul Tremblay and Riley Sager books queued up to start tonight (do NOT let me down, Riley Sager) and I was so excited to see something new from Sarah Langan! I don't think any book has ever stressed me out so badly as Good Neighbors! It's funny, I'd never even seen the Death in the Details book, but the moment I saw the cover I thought...holy crap...is this gonna be FGL inspired???? And finally in this novel-length comment, I was SO intrigued by that gorgeous cover for The Supplicant that I requested it on Netgalley immediately , even though I saw a lot of 1 and 2 star reviews. I don't care! I mean...that cover!

You are so on top of reading your ARCs! Good for you. The concept for Incidents definitely freaks me out. I don’t necessarily believe in “evil entities” but I spent my childhood scared shitless of them thanks to my Catholic raising, so it still gets me. Bummer Supplicant has gotten some crappy reviews so far! Hopefully it’s one of those that is just told in a way that isn’t broadly relatable but still really good!

I loved Dead Silence and excited to read Ghost Station even though the reviews so far have been "meh". doesn't mean I still won't enjoy it.. fingers crossed!
