There's a TOTAL solar eclipse every ~18 months. I'm guessing you're talking about all eclipses, not just total ones, since living through 58 total eclipses would make you ~90 years old. The majority of them do not have a pathway that is favorable for viewing, ending up in the middle of nowhere like the ocean, or obscure parts of other countries. The next total eclipse that will reach the US after the one today will be in ~20 years, in 2044, and will only be visible from 3 states. So, for many people, it is going to be a once in a lifetime event to see a TOTAL solar eclipse within the US, with a unique path that spans across the country. Hope that helped
