Very interesting to see that you prefer it in more of an "XC" configuration, or maybe "downcountry" - It feels like your trails, and the way you ride, you would be the absolute target customer for the evo configuration. But that probably just tells us how capable "xc" bikes/suspension have become these days. Me myself, I ordered the S-works version, since where I live its forest, flat and rocky. I've tried trail bikes, but sold them all. Pure XC is where its at for me.

I've got this same suspension package on a Spur that I just built up and your assessment on the feel is very similar to my own. It's surprising how good that little shock handles everything. The fork is no slouch either, especially given the updates from the previous model that had the bushing-related issues. I plan on swapping to Fox soon to make a direct comparison because of how that bike begs to get into trouble on the downhill. The Epic 8 Evo in the low position ends up with 75* STA which is slack by modern geometry standards and might be the achilles heel of the E8E. The E8E would have been better with a 76-77* STA. If I bought an E8E, I would size up, push the saddle all the way forward, and install a 35mm stem. Geometry wise, I'm sure that the bike was designed for 120mm fork Epic 8 in the high position which would make for a steeper seat tube.

Nice build Jason 🎉 , I had a thought today after riding my ORBEA at the weekend and basically I think it’s almost impossible to get a bike that can descend AND climb with totally equal 🟰 ability so I think it also depends on “how” you want to descend like for Eg the SC Nomad is amazing on the descents and it also for a 170mm travel bike climbs ok it all depends on how much effort and energy you’re willing to put in to get to the top ! And an XC 120mm short travel bike can also descend pretty good but less effort to climb 😂 it comes down to the rider and basically asking yourself where’s my happiest moment on the trail. For me personally I actually don’t mind the climb because I don’t ride for more than maybe 2 hours at one time 👍🏾

@mtbyumyum9 ай бұрын
Honestly, anytime I try a flat bar, the bike feels wonky to me. I don’t think it’s how much or how little rise it has. I think it has more to do with the amount of sweep. What I find strange that the price is $3900 the same as the previous Epic Evo frameset albeit without the carbon yoke, titanium hardware and less premium carbon. Very disappointed with the pricing. From my experience from the Gen 7 Epic Evo Sworks to Fact 11 carbon if you put the carbon yoke and the same shock on the Fact 11 the difference in weight is only 50g which I have verified personally because I have owned both versions. Long story short, it might be better to buy this frameset and Epic 8 sworks it. You will probably save money and only have a 50g penalty (if you switch out the shock, yoke and titanium hardware).

Unfortunately I didn’t weigh it as a frame only… I think you’re right tho, purchasing as a frame only and building an epic from there is a smart move… plus you could go w a fox stepcast 120mm fork for the epic build and maybe be slightly more capable given I think it feels just a bit more plush compared to the sid/lux

Always enjoy your straight up reviews, but hoping all bike reviewers, magazines, youtubers... will stop weighing bikes with no pedals. You can't ride a bike without pedals:) I have the prior epic evo and really like the bike, but miss the DW Link of my prior Ibis.

Just add a pound.

I weigh it without because everyone uses different pedals that weigh different. Some of my pedals weigh close to a pound and others way just over a half pound so I do it in an effort to maintain a level of consistency….

Thanks. I know probably a lame Q. Just some guys don’t pan back like you did which is appreciated. Good luck with the knee and don’t try to come back too early. Just follow the PT staff instructions to a T.

How? You don’t think that changing the suspension (including g a 10mm reduction at the front, and to an XC fork) along with the geometry change would be perceptible?! I have ridden bikes that feel appreciably different with just a change of air pressure in the shock or a flip chip change… I highly doubt placebo has anything to do g to do with his feeling or opinion.

@@GOmotorsports Specialized got it right on Flight Attendant - standard on their $14,500 S-Works race bike and nowhere else. Tell me the average mountain biker could benefit from what the FA does for another $2500 in cost.

I remember Fox coming out with Fox live valve maybe five years ago or so. I rode it on a Pivot bike and remember thinking man this is just not worth the extra amount of money….
