I own two Epic Evo 7 S-Works , I believe you consider it "twitchy or sharp" because of two things. The Specialized tires are not comparable to Rekons 2.4 , Rekons are way grippier and also larger volume. And second that bike was designed with a 60mm Stem and in the test was changed to 40mm stem witch impacts directly on the speed of the movement of the handlebars. My two cents

Great video. Disagree on not noticing the flip chip position. I swapped my flip chip to the low position one day when I was bored then forgot that I had done it. That weekend I was pre-riding a NICA course with my kids and couldn't figure out why my bike felt terrible. Finally remembered the flip chip and immediately put it back in the high position and it was so much better. I think that I'd go low position if I was descending The Whole Enchilada or going to a bike park. A friend and I just did an Epic 8 vs Epic 7 EVO comparison and I felt like the EVO was more playful and a little bit quicker due to the shorter wheelbase. That's probably the same feeling that you were describing as "sharp" or "sketchy."

Yeah, it’s probably worth noting. They look very similar when you just compare them side-by-side. But I would imagine there might be a slight bit more volume and traction from the rekon. Ideally, head to head comparisons like this would have control tires.

If money was not object I would still have it in the quiver along with my Trail 429 Enduro. The old Epic Evo 7 is great for the days where I want to be on edge a little more or where the trail is flatter and/or less technical. P.S. This was almost entirely a comparison of the two bikes on the descents, any comparison with climbing (flat pedaling, sustained climbs, technical climbs)? I'm coming to the opinion that there are only really 2 types of Trailbikes to own. The first are the bikes with 120mm forks like the new Epic or the Spur. The second are the bikes with 160mm forks like the Stumpy Evo or the Yeti SB140 Lunch Ride. Avoid bikes with 130, 140, and 150mm forks. Either go for the light fast snappy 120mm fork bike or go for the slack capable burly 160mm fork bike. The 120mm fork bike is the Gravel, XC, Downcountry bike for long rides on gravel, green, and blue trails. (Yes, with Gravel or XC tires, XC bikes make great Gravelbikes.) The 160mm fork bike is the Trail, All-Mountain, Enduro bike for blue and black trails. I have an Epic 7 Evo Comp and a Stumpy Evo Expert. I'm not a Specialized fanboy but Specialized has been giving such huge discounts that I couldn't say no. I've almost got two bikes for the price of one. I love both these bikes. With the Epic Evo, I do rides that combine pavement, gravel, and easier singletrack. The Stumpy Evo is for serious singletrack: fast, steep, and rough.
