@@Yo-Ken After being out of town for a while, I finally got around to installing the DRL version of the cruise control. I'm sad to report that although every other switch functions as it is supposed to, the DRL switch does not. The low beam headlight still comes on when the ignition is turned on and the switch does not turn it off and run just the DRLs like in the EU and other market versions. Shame too because you can see the DRL indicator in the instrument cluster. The ECM and wiring harness have the same part numbers for all markets, but the instrument cluster has different part numbers for UK, US, Japanese, Canadian, California, and all-other-markets. Clever bastards. Anyway, hope you are enjoying your bike, Yo-Ken. Speed safely.

Thanks man... good to hear you had a good experience. Here in the States 90% of the dealers are more concerned about squeezing every dollar out of the customer. Giving a customer a good experience so he will be a long term customer doesn't seem to be a high priority. The dealer that I bought my bike from will never get my business again, and I will steer anyone who asks away from them. How are you finding the QS? On mine with still only 100 miles the upshifts occasionally feel like it doesn’t quite go in completely and feels a little notchy at the end of the shift (this of course happens quickly). And I’ve had a couple of clunky downshifts where if feels like the shift is in two phases almost with a pause in between, one with a really noticeable pause and didn’t seem to want to go in. All the reviews comment on it being butter smooth. Maybe they have some miles on them. Such an amazing bike, I’m paranoid a clunky shift is harming the transmission 😕

Where are the controls for your headlights? They should be to the left of the cruise control buttons.
@Yo-Ken Жыл бұрын
In 1979, the US required all motorcycles to have the headlight on when riding. Automatic headlight on, I think the law is called. That's why you will not see a headlight switch on US bikes.

@Winston the Cuttlefish DOT (department of traffic) regulations require the headlight to be on automatically, so there is no need for a switch... just the high beam.
@LostPathfinderTB Жыл бұрын
@@winstonthecuttlefish5352 Yes, headlights are always on for all motorcycles worldwide now, however, certain markets allow for Daytime Running Lights (DRLs) rather than the low or dipped beam to be on all the time. This is where the switches you mention come into play. North American market motorcycles have not had these switches equipped since mid-1978. I personally can attest to this because when I was stationed at RAF Lakenheath and bought a 1997 Yamaha YZF600R "Thundercat," it had a switch to turn the headlight to three positions; off/park/on. Several years later when I was stationed back stateside, a bought a 1998 YZF600R and it was not equipped with this headlight selector switch. The EU markets went to mandatory use of lights some time in the mid to late 2000s, but up until then, you could run them off during daylight if you wanted to. There is a similar reason why some manufacturers (Honda, Yamaha, Harley Davidson) still use their turn signals as running lights in the NA market but don't in the EU. During my second stint in the UK with my 1998, I got stopped several times by the police, wondering why my turn signals were "stuck on." They were cool once I told them it was an import. On the flip side, trying to get the 1997 UK bike imported to the US was a royal PITA. Eventually, I just sold it and elected to buy one here (which I still have). So, long story short, everyone's headlights are on, but some of you out there in the world still have the option to turn them off.
