2024 Subaru BRZ Vs. 2024 Toyota GR86 as a high-level Comparison

One thing that is not mentioned often is: Another reason to pick the BRZ over the GR86 is = both have a Subaru motor! Should you have an issue with your GR86 engine, do you want a Toyota mechanic (who doesn’t work on boxer motors) working on an engine that they are not overly familiar with? That’s why I ordered a BRZ over a GR86.

It's probably not a fair statement. It might be correct if this were the very first year of the boxer engine being used in both cars. I believe the boxer engine has been used in both cars since 2011. Therefore, both Toyota and Subaru mechanics have had plenty of years of experience servicing these engines. Ultimately, the quality of service comes down to the individual technician working on your car, their level of experience, and how much they genuinely care about their work. You can receive subpar service from inexperienced technicians on either side. You can only have peace of mind by taking your car to a Subaru dealer and having work done by a Subaru technician, especially when you don't know the level of experience or dedication of the technician working on your car. It might just be a job to them and not a career or passion.

@@icon3725 I personally know people with FRS’s, GT86’s and GR86’s that brought their vehicles to Toyota for engine issues and were told that to bring it to a Subaru mechanic. Obviously the Toyota dealer got permission from Toyota to do so; but it still has happened to a few people that I know.
