We often refer to the Crosstrek as the "Mini Outback" because they are both in essence "lifted station wagons," but that's not a bad thing at all, in fact it's the recipe to Subaru's sales boom in America. For 2024, one of Subaru's best sellers has been redesigned to keep prices low and customers happy. Some options are limited (like you won't find a tubro under this hood) but trim levels have been expanded and the much loved Wilderness trim has finally reached the Crosstrek. Whether you're looking for a more car-like driving experience, a lower roofline for easier loading of kayaks, bikes, or skiis, or some of the best ground clearance numbers in the segment, you should give the smallest Subie SUV a long look.

I'd really like to see a Crosstrek WRX or just Turbo Crosstrek. It would be all the car I would ever need and something I'd trade my GR86 for. A competent hybrid Crosstrek would also be great and if Subaru would give us physical climate controls back that would be incredible

It has eight hard climate control buttons/switches, does that count as a physical control? The always on fan and AC screen buttons are easy to fat finger, all other controls the same one screen deep if you don’t utilize the Auto setting which would preclude 90% setting changes. Voice controls work great as well. It is a non-issue.

How about using the 2.0 turbo that’s in my 2014 Forester XT. THAT would put it into a different category!!

One flaw for tall drivers: the rear view mirror obstructs about 25% of the drivers’ view of the road. The mirror hangs below the EyeSight module, together with the low roofline of the Crosstrek, this positions it directly in the sight-line of the driver. I drove a loaner Crosstrek for a couple of days while my Forester was in for service: it was a scary experience because I was blind to that quarter of the road unless I ducked my head. I am about 6ft 4in. I do not have this problem with my 2014 Forester. Something to evaluate before purchasing …..

I want to like it. I really do. Especially with the 2.5L, but for well over $30k, the interior is simply too spartan and small. It feels really cheap. The CVT doesn’t add much to it either. I’m in the camp that appreciates the actual efficiency of CVTs, not “imitation” automatic. If you want an automatic, just put in an 8-speed. It’s just too many compromises unless you subscribe to the “Subie cult”.

All of them have compromises, the 2024 Crosstrek Sport 2.5L less than most. Some folks like myself just don't want a big vehicle -- even with price being equal. I wanted a smallish crossover than was easy to park and maneuver, but with enough pep -- i.e., a bigger engine. I thought the CX-30 was my choice, but the poor tech and visibility was a deal killer. The CX-5 is too big for me. I decided to check out the 2024 Crosstrek Sport which has the 2.5L. Overall, it was as close to ideal as I could find. Got it for $3k off MSRP ($27k). It has a great infotainment system, visibility, AWD system, descent fuel economy and great resale.

@@brocklanders6969 I disagree with you on that. There are vehicles in this class with few to no compromises. The Crosstrek is really no smaller in length than its competition at 176.4”. The Seltos is 172.6”. The Corolla Cross is 176.1” The Kona is 172.6”. The Taos is 175.8”. So the Crosstrek is actually longer than most, is less reliable than most, and has less interior space than most. The Subaru infotainment is large, for sure, but it’s also objectively worse than most, being low resolution, laggy and having too many menus for simple tasks that most competitors have buttons for.

@@afcgeo882 Correct -- I was comparing to compacts, not to subcompacts. It is a tweener. Well, I actually test drove all of the vehicles your are talking about. The only competition it has in subcompact is the CX-30. The Corolla Cross (including hybrid) is louder and doesn't handle as well, cheap interior and overpriced especially with AWD. Hyundai Kona / Kia Seltos dealing with $3 billion in class actions due to engine failures and growing, poor resale and a manufacturer that isn't honoring their warranty. New Kona is ugly and looks like a kid's car. VW makes junk -- I know I had 3. Very unreliable, expensive maintenance and poor resale. None of their infotainment systems were as good the Crosstrek's IMHO.

If it were down to powered lift gate or AWD I'll get AWD. I'm sure even disabled me can open that lift gate easy enough.

In Japan, they get the gorgeous Oasis Blue color for the Crosstrek. Such a shame that North America doesn't get Oasis Blue for the Crosstrek, only the Impreza gets it

Just get the Impreza. It’s nominally quicker, faster, better handling, better mileage and larger cargo capacity as well as way better looking without that ugly gray plastic. If you are not going off road as most owners don’t.

@@afcgeo882 nope, 20.4 cf seats up and 56 cf seats down (Impreza) is greater than 19 cf up and 54.7 down. (Crosstrek). The Crosstrek’s spare tire raises up the cargo deck a tad bit.

@@tpolerex7282 That’s literally a loss of less than an inch, which is no difference in reality because no one loads the car so tight up to the ceiling that a part of an inch would have changed it.

They can’t quote you prices from all the dealers. Those are negotiable anyway. The only thing they can say is the nation-wide MSRP.

Love the Crosstrek and have since its inception. They truly must make the Harman Kardon premium sound system at least optional on the sport model. Any idea of when this might happen? Are enough of us complaining for it to be available on the 2025 model year?

In Canada they overcharged a girl i know paid like $35000, In Canada they are selling from $40 to $50 Grand, imagine the wildness model, 53grand.

no, but this is sub compact Suv, not in the class of CRV and RAV4, it should not be be priced as high as 55G. This is gouging by 20g for subcompact. All subaru dealer do this. @@afcgeo882

Subaru overcharges, you probably got a deal now since there is massive recession in Canada. They overcharge their cars, my subaru and honda dealers are full stock. That is fact. @@RCfire55

Horrible video. All camera views of the interior were from the side, at a considerable distance. No closeups of the console, the infotainment screen, the instrument cluster, or the steering wheel. Very disappointing for an AA video
