I'm glad that the 8R's ecu tuning isn't just a carbon copy of the 8S, shows that the bike manufacturer isn't slacking off and taking the easy route, hope Suzuki's resurgence plan will truly work out for them.

I dont think its just the tuning that is different. I believe this bike may have a slightly different cam degree.

100 HP possible!!! 😳
@exothermal.sprocket8 ай бұрын
So far it's been pretty much Yamaha R7 and Aprilia RS660 racing in MotoAmerica, with a couple of SV650. The 8R will be a big welcome to join the fray. While not currently making the same peak numbers as the 660, the torque is much fatter on the Suzuki than either of the other bikes. The tuning for the 8S so far has gained both 10 hp and 10 ft-lb torque and that's just the start. I'm sure another 10-12 horsepower can be found somewhere (cams probably) and this platform holds a lot of long term baked-in promise. In MotoAmerica, in spite the horsepower deficit of the R7 vs the RS660, the Yamaha shines in the torque department and often makes up the difference. Peak HP isn't everything on a racing circuit.

@johnlam26619 ай бұрын
Would love to see some lower clip-ons developed for this bike. Also a general product idea that I haven't seen yet is a winglet and turn signal combination. Most of the winglets available right now are hideous (and huge) but something more subtle in combination w/ the signal lamp would be a slick cosmetic mod.
@deankaiser46653 ай бұрын
Another awesome bike selection from TST. I see you've already done the tail-tidy. But another thing this bike needs is a rethink of those "dual cyclopian-looking lights" on the front. A killer mod for these GSX 8Rs would be a way to get an LED light bulb into the front airs-coops and cover up the cyclops bugs in the front. I picture a way to tuck a cluster or two in the slits on either side. That would make this bike a 9.8 aesthetically.

If Suzuki did make some changes that resulted in better dyno numbers either intentionally or by accident, I would think their marketing department would be all over that by now.

Smoother output curve and slightly greater overall output results are similar to what I've seen from dyno'd S models with ECU tunes so will be interesting to see how your R model responds to similar modifications. Also of interest will be how the R models Showa suspension compares to the KYB units that came with the S model since I know you will be taking your bike to the track!

TB boring is already offered as a service at machine shops. You specify the parameters and they do yhe work. Nothing novel in that so we just outsource . When we get one of the morors out of one of these bike we own we will see what yhe clearances are. We want to do head work and cams. For cams we will get with a company that does them all the time. I would prefer not to regrind but i also dont want to forge and then grind because i will be sitting on a lot of cams for a long time.

Does the 8R model have a different air box/duct setup compared to the 8S? I would presume they do being faired vs naked. Maybe the R has a little higher flow box/duct. 2 hp is definitely easy to gain with improved air flow, and can change gains throughout the rpm band.

So you maxed out in 6th at 135.5mph or 218km/h. I understand this is right at the rev limiter, so where's the limiter at? Certainly not below 9.5k rpm? That means that at 8300rpm where it produces max power the speed will be 190km/h or 118mph with a 9.5k rev limiter,even less if the rev limiter is higher. So this is seriously subpar for achieving max top speed seeing as any speed above that 190km/h will result in an increase in revs and drop in horsepower and an optimized and longer gearing will go a long way towards increasing top speed. Not that it would be overall beneficial, I do not have the bike and so do not know if the gearing feels close or not and if impacting in-gear acceleration would be a significant downside, probably best to leave it as is, just a little obsessed with maximizing things.

Pretty respectable numbers for a bone stock bike. I see this knocking the mt07 down a notch but I'm still going to give Yamaha ALL the credit for knocking it out of the park with the original mt07. It stood at the top of the best parallel twin category for how long? Without the mt07 and alike, Suzuki would have had no reason to even build this bike.🤔
