2024 Timeline for Marriage-Based Green Cards

Very informative information!! Just a timeline on my green card application. My wife and I applied for marriage based green card (for me). Applied in early December 2022. USCIS confirmed receipt of application mid December. Received EAD in January 2023. Never received the Advanced Parole at all. Just shows the application was received in December but no approval or denial. Didnt send the medical exam results with the initial application so they pushed back in June 2023 and asked me to submit them. Did the medical exam, got about 5 shots that were required, and Submitted SEALED medical exam results in June 26th 2023. Along with this i also got a letter from the pharmacist in Walgreens to exempt me from seasonal flu shot and said it was out of season and flu shots were not available anywhere in North America at that time. Never got asked to do interview process and received email of green card approval in early July 2023 and received green card in the mail 2 weeks later 😊 Total time it took from start to finish was 7 months. I was advised it would likely be 12 - 18 months or even more but we got lucky i guess 😊 Thank you for your informative videos, and good luck to all applying!

@lyll9447 We sent all the mandatory documents like photocopies of marriage certificate, birth certs, passports etc. along with pictures of family events, pictures of us together when we were younger, and also pictures of us with our daughter which I believe would have helped prove our marriage was legit and probably why they skipped the interview process for us

We made our initial filing back in March of 2022 and saw on the USCIS website that my wife's green card was just issued last week (still waiting for it though). It took over a year to get a work card, social security number, and travel card. Our interview was 5 months ago in the Atlanta field office. We know of people that filed more than 6 months after us with only a fraction of marital evidence that we submitted and received their green card months ago. We had a very strong case and a smooth interview, so it feels like so much depends on the officer handling your case. We had a great attorney in our case but we cannot imagine how lost we would have felt without the reassuring guidance and insight that Jim provides on a regular basis. Thank you for all you do, Jim!

The first step is over for my wife , looking forward for step 2 which is nvc to send me the welcome letter ! My wife I 130 application took 14 long months, but I finally got approved on September 27, 2024. I submitted my wife's application on July 25, 2023, and we got an update on August 10 that her case is being actively reviewed. The process is stressful, but hang in there - patience is key!

I would say that our case is one of that 5% you mentioned. I'm the US citizen and my spouse arrived 03AUG23 on a F1 visa and we married on 01DEC23. We filed I-130, I-131, I-765, I485 & I-864. Initially, we were sent RFE for information already received that I believe was likely not fully scanned for the Lee Summit office. That RFE also requested I-693. Biometric was 17JAN24 and all RFE was provided by 29JAN24 and by 11FEB24 the work authorization was received. No additional approvals or requests were made and we waited until 05JUL24 to see the I-130 & I-485 to be approved and notification days later that the green card has been issued. I realize based on your videos and other research, this is unique and maybe representative of the new USCIS timeline based on significant delays and backlog.

If you can, apply for the I-29F which is the finance visa. It should take a year for your fiance to come to the US. The only problem is your fiancée/spouse can’t work yet. While you file I-485 or your adjustment of status (green card), file the I-765 or the EAD which allows your foreign spouse (former fiance) to work. Your EAD may arrive before the green card which allows your now spouse to work in the US.

after so much research this video finally answered my main question in this video and made real my biggest fear. I cannot be stuck in the us for 1 year due to my mom's unstable health. It's now clear that we can only do the I130 out of country. Would I be able travel to visit my spouse during that time however. You will certainly be hearing from us as a client in the near future.

I currently have a green card that was "mistakingly" given to me by USCIS back when my mom and I went through the legal process of obtaining through the unmarried son and daughter of a Permanent Resident.Long story short I went for my naturalization, and found out that someone in USCIS gave a GC that was not valid to give based on some errors they encountered. USCIS allowed me to stay with my current GC thank God, and now im in the process of obtaining a new GC through my wife who I married 4 years before this whole incident. As of now my work permit has been denied and terminated and my lawyer is waiting to see what their reasoning was but im assuming is because of the benefit I already have with the GC I currently process. My case went from NBC to my field office in Tampa FL and im hoping to get my interview waived.

Question: If Im a Canadian and wanted to work remotely on projects in Canada ( in CDN dollar), while living in the USA, getting engaged, then married and filing for green card- can i work remotely on canadian projects? Married 4/22/22 filed 3/22/24 PD 3/28/24 approved 7/20/24. No interview no RFE. Just got back to Canada. CBP didn’t even ask for my passport when exiting the US and entering Canada. I’m happy I had no issues but I would really like if CBP did more thorough checks on people lol

Hey After we got the intent to revoke on i-130 application 2 months ago,,i check today on uscis page and it says we are actively reviewing your Form I-130, Petition for Alien Relative, Receipt Number . Our records show nothing is outstanding at this time. We will let you know if we need anything from you. .... its that a good news?

my USC spouse submitted my marriage based green card application on the 15th of september 2023, i got my biometrics on the 20th of october 2023, i got my work permit on 5th of november. i had my interview called for the 6th of march and no decison was made on the interview (i was told to be patient ) and got the paper to wait 120 days. two weeks ago, uscis officer came to my place and left with the satisfactory visit. i checked my online status which says that , my parole document is produced and that's it. my i-130 and i-1480 is still being reviewd by USCIS. as of today, its 107th day of 120th. what should i do? and what are my options after 120 days? my field office is in spokane, WAshington state.

If a crewmember with a C1D visa gets married to a US citizen, can the crewmember remain in the US after the contract ends while waiting for processing? Would the crewmember have to leave the US? Can the crewmember leave the ship to live with the US spouse?
