for a 192 base card set, a person would presumably need to open at least 3 boxes with reasonable collation to complete a a single base card set - probably some doubles and triples of the base cards after opening; but a $900 investment for the base card set, minus whatever non-base card hit value is attained, not ideal - that's a bit steep for any "collector" of sets

First, I agree with you, I refuse to buy any ultra modern wax because the value just isn’t there for the price. But to play devil’s advocate, is it Topps/Fanatics’ responsibility to worry about the secondary market? I would say no, as long as people are willing to buy it in the first place. If it's not worth it, it'll be left on the shelfs like prizm blasters of 2019 basketball and 2020 football, junk wax etc. Also, is Topps/Fanatics even capable of predicting the value a person gets out of the box? There’s plenty of rare cards that have little value and (relatively) common cards that have plenty of value; only the market can dictate that. How can Fanatics predict how the market will value something and should they even be responsible for doing that. Lastly, I’d say 90% of customers have always lost on opening sealed wax. Look at a Beckett from the 90’s or any time period and look at the values, you’re not getting your money back and that didn’t matter. Frankly, I hope 99% of people get skunked. Maybe people would stop buying wax and the market would correct itself and prices will come down. I enjoy your content as always!
@gametimeinternational2 ай бұрын
Fanatics needs to implement a buy back program for base cards. That would create some incentive to no throw away the cards that no one wants. 100 base cards of a player or something like that fetches a free hobby box. Definitely need to resurrect base. Awesome analysis on all this man 🎉🎉

@SS-pc6dg2 ай бұрын
People love ugly cards, tier one, museum, Select (everything looks blurry), etc. but what do you expect? Look at the majority of collectors... they typically are not the most attractive bunch with a sophisticated fashion sense so I would not expect their taste in cards to be very good either. Personally I don't want a large obnoxious border or images of the player to be kilroyesque but look at the logoman cards... hideous. I'd rather have a signed 8x10 of Jerry West than any logoman card (easy instant sell) but what do I know. Any unlicensed product is garbage IMO but so many people are treating cards as a business versus a hobby. The moment you stop collecting and buy a card in the hopes of flipping it and making money it becomes a business. As long as greedy idiots keep buying garbage cards to sell to even less mentally capable idiots the manufacturers won't change a thing. The moment real collectors (the end owners of the cards) stop buying any card whatsoever the manufacturers and flippers will be caught holding the bag. Even the Topps president was happy to say they cater to young kids by selling them cards for "cheap" which are not intended to have any future value... WTF and he was proud to do that. No one wants to buy something with real money knowing it is intended to have no future value. What does the cosmos and baseball have to do with one another? Nothing but some people love the look of those cards... I can't help them and I doubt anybody can. All collectors need to stop buying any licensed product in 2025 until the manufacturers make the following changes, if a product is highly desired the distributors should have the same chance of obtaining product as the collectors or anybody else (the random drawing should be broadcast to all, what an exciting spectacle to add to the hobby), any cards sold to distributors/shops should have a 12 month price limit in place where they may not sell the product for more than the original retail price as provided by the manufacturer and lastly, they need to resolve the CT Scan issue with packaging that develops upon exposure to X-Rays. I would suggest that the manufactures have only two types of products, a paper and a chrome version. Then sell them in packs of something similar to the following $10/5 cards, $20/12, $50/35, $100/75, $200/175 and $500/500 cards. All of the random other sets the currently make can simply be inserts in these packs. All of the packs have the same odds to hit any card and the only difference is how many cards/chances you opt to buy. This way a kid can buy the $10 pack and have the same odds to hit a 1/1 rookie auto etc. Since I do not know the exact costs involved to produce these numbers could be adjusted but having a sliding scale from $2 down to $1 for chrome and maybe $1.50-$0.50 for paper seems approximately appropriate. I guess I have ranted long enough... STOP BUYING INTO ANY BREAKS IS STEP #1 FYI - Breaker Participants Anonymous is a 12-step program to help aid you in breaking your breaking habit, meetings are held on Thursdays @ 9PM and on Saturdays @ 12AM at the Foxborough Church Rec Center 2435 Midline Rd.

@turkspulls93652 ай бұрын
The problem isn’t Fanatics or Panini. It’s the collectors. Fanatics and Panini wouldn’t get away with pricing this stuff so high if people wouldn’t buy it. But unfortunately people keep buying it. You can try and blame the breakers which they do help fuel the issue but people are still ripping at these ridiculous prices all day long. SMH. If we all would collectively boycott these prices we would take our hobby back. But we all know people have no self control over their addiction to ripping. It’s only going to get worse.
