I would stick with this 5th Gen 4Runner. At least you know what you’re getting; honest bulletproof reliability and pure ruggedness in the naturally aspirated V6 engine. A Ford, Jeep and Chevrolet will be in the shop all the time. Keep the oil changed in the Toyota 4Runner and you’re golden for hundreds of thousands of miles plus their high resale value is unmatched. I’ll wait to hear reviews from those who choose the new 6th Gen 2025 model with the turbo 4, but I still believe if it ain’t broke; don’t fix it.
@O-PAC5 ай бұрын
Yes this 5th gen is the one to go with. That 4.0 has proven itself and I wish Toyota would keep it as an engine option on the 6th gen 4Runner and the 4th generation Tacoma so people have other options. Maybe just add a gear box with more gears for fuel efficiency and better power band. The new tundra proved to be a big disappointment with its turbo wastegate issues at less than 3k miles and one dude driving his home from the dealership to find his rear axle was broken. Good looking truck but again I wish the V8 was an option there. Now I’m already seeing videos with a new Tacoma breaking its front diff on an easy obstacle and another guy already taking his to the shop because his check engine light already came on. I grew up with Toyotas but these aren’t exactly inspiring confidence in the new redesigns. Which is a shame because they look good. People like to talk smack about the American brands but my 2019 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon has been more reliable than my wife’s 2015 Toyota Corolla. Her car has been in the shop 3 times just in the last 4 months versus the 0 times my Jeep has in 5 years. And I off road the Jeep in the mountains of Colorado and Utah. My dad has a 2017 Chevy 3/4 ton that he takes up to the mountains as well and it’s got 220k miles with no issues. I want to replace the Corolla with a 4Runner TRD Pro but the price point right now needs to come down a bit, which I don’t see happening.
@johncarter86885 ай бұрын
@@O-PAC Fair point. My dig at the other car makers is based upon over all track records and feedback heard from a lot of previous owners. Any vehicle is going to run well as long as you take care of it. Also every car manufacturer is going to have its outliers right? I just had a friend of mine that was having electrical problems out of his 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD that he bought brand new last year. He kept getting the run around at the dealership he purchased it from and ended up trading it for a new one at a different Chevrolet dealership. Now you know the 2023 models were $55 -$60K brand new and that’s being modest. The 2024 models are in the $70K range. You would expect a basic level of reliability for a vehicle that costs that much with hardly any miles on it. I guess I’m just partial to Toyota and Subaru specifically because they are car brands known for their consistency when it comes to reliability and maintaining high resale value. Are they all perfect? No, but you know what I’m getting at. At the end of the day it comes down to personal preference and what you’re willing to pay for. As far as trying to get your hands on a 2024 4Runner TRD Pro, I’m with you. You need to shop around a lot not only at dealership’s in your home state but outside as well. Just inquire what their out the door prices are (including all taxes, fees and add-ons) and see how far they are willing to negotiate. I can tell you from experience they aren’t as inclined to come off too much. The TRD Pro are in limited supply because Toyota only builds 2000-3000 units per year. Based upon dealer allocations some get 1, 2 or maybe 3 if they are lucky while some won’t get any TRD Pro on their lots The dealerships in my home state were way above market so I did a search in a 500 mile radius at border states and found ones who were willing to negotiate and come off of some of the add-ons. They still charged MSRP but just no mark-ups. When the dealerships at home called back to inquire about whether I was still looking for one I asked if they could beat the other out the door price offersI found at out of state dealers including the tax for my home state and none of them could. One came within $1K but couldn’t beat it. That was the litmus test. None of the dealerships I found were willing to go under MSRP or below invoice for a TRD Pro but you never know you may find that one hidden gem of a dealership. I’m highly skeptical about the new twin turbo 4 cylinder even more so now after what you said about the new Tacomas. I’ll wait until they work out the kinks and any recalls in the 2025 models and beyond with the turbo V4. Redesign the vehicle fine but if the V6 engine has a proven record for reliability leave it the hell alone. Try to improve the gas mileage and emissions but otherwise don’t mess with it.

Ofc the 4Runner is a dinosaur....but here's the thing....reliability was the old school Toyota. Sure, you can wait for all the whiz bang technical updates and overall design in the 25 4Runner, but at the cost of the turbo injected 4cyl engines that have really started out with a "bang"---and that wasn't a compliment. I bought the 24 Camry v6 just because I wanted a naturally aspirated engine above 4cyl.....I'm ok with hybrid....without a turbo injected engine. I also have a 24 RAV4 Hybrid and it's perfect. These are midsize vehicles that aren't doing anything fancy. In short, these "tank" vehicles and trucks that are meant for REAL tasks and off-roading are all going to suffer, because Toyota prioritized Government rebates over providing the consumer what they want.

There is a reason why 5th gen 4runners are flying off the lot. Got my 2024 4runner sr5p and am thoroughly enjoying it.

So many 'car critics', esp the big outlet corporate ones, dog on the 4runner like every other spec junkie. There's a reason corporate salaried car "critics" are not the men in the arena actually making things. 4runners have sold more 4runners the past year than any other year. Interesting, huh? But the spec gimmick jockies ponder and pontificate. How is this so? HOW? I am paid to critic all the new dazzling bells and whistles. I'm an expert! I know all of the things!

That's not even remotely true. You realize you're on the internet, where anyone can fact check you in a second? Toyota sold 109,951 4Runner in 2023. In 2022, Toyota sold 121,023 4Runner. They sold 11,072 more units in year 2022 compared to 2023 with a percent loss of 9.15% YoY.

You guy's should tell your presenter to mention how tall they are when talking about front/ rear seat leg and head room. It really doesn't give me as the viewer any real sense of how large the backseat is if you say "I have plenty of leg and head room back here" without mentioning your proportions.

I have a problem. In 2016, I bought my 4runner brand new. Had a rock hit the windshield in 2017- replaced the windshield immediately at the Toyota dealer I got it from. Fast forward to Dec 2023... battery died...replaced it. Feb 2024 had to be towed and replace an air injection driver (i think thats what they called it). July -dead battery again, tested/ replaced. Aug replaced battery a third time and had to replace air injection driver I think again in Aug...and kept asking them to check wires for corrosion since I noticed rust on the body above the windshield. Now...this past w/e alarms going off middle of the night and the DTR lights were on despite switch in off position. Battery dead again...finally they witnessed the light issue and believed me when I said it is an electrical issue and my gut tells me it's related to the rust...and it is (have been saying that for 2 mos). They now want $13,000 to replace the wire harness. Showed me pix of water that is leaking into the wires from the windshield, not visible before they removed the dash panel. That's 13k for the parts that may take weeks to come in and labor. Does not include a new windshield or fixing the rust above it. I work from home and only have 41k miles on my truck and it was purchased w cash so no payments. I love my truck and wanted to keep it as long as I could still drive (I'm 59). I don't want a payment or a new vehicle. How do I know this is really what's needed or are there other options? Is it worth the money to fix? The carfax emails I get say my trade in would be worth 21k- before this problem. Idk how accurate those are though. Any ideas or advice would be great. I got a Toyota to avoid this kind of thing. I have never missed any of the maintenance on it. And btw...my dad works at FORD x30yr. Ironic.

it's awesome vehicle all around. this one will out last almost any other brands. I'm a 2012 Toyota Venza owner V6 AWD. super reliable keep maintaining fluids you're good to go . I'm with no doubt this one is a tank steel. the only advice under code fluid film or Bp Blaster under coding. a lot of new good products out there to protect your vehicle from rust...

I love the solid reliability 4Runner offers well over the competition. I love evn 4Runner offers comfy onroad options like the Limited where you get real leather seats, automatic running boards and full-time 4wd to name a few. Also 3rd row seating. To me pretty much 4Runner offers a solution for all needs to me , why the whole family drives 4Runners.

We are thankful to have the option to buy a reliable, body on frame, 4wd shift lever, non-turbo V6 suv. Buy the 5th generation 4runner before Toyota downgrades it.

I love 4Runners, and keep buying them…I am crazy 😜. I grew up with old trucks, so these are luxurious comparatively speaking. Less stuff to break, but yes, they are too expensive. Luckily I picked up my orp for $42k a few years back and spent money on a suspension upgrade. Worth it. 👍🤪🏳️🌈

I love the 4Runner but at the same time, 45-55k is a lot of money for a car that, mechanically, hasn’t changed since 2005. I’d buy one used, or wait for the new one.

Sales jumped significantly (almost doubled) in the US after the 2014 refresh, climbed each year through 2018, and then have been falling since, except for spike in 2021, but the spike then was probably due to built up demand after the pandemic hit
@GBcommander3 ай бұрын
Probably cause the price is insane for what you get. The base model is 42k, that's ridiculous for such a dated vehicle.
@jodensmith50935 ай бұрын
Never understood buying the trd pro model. It’s terrible value and the trd exhaust drones on when your at freeway speeds and that’s super annoying. Just get a trd off road premium or sr5 premium in 4x4 and you will be very happy and you won’t be hurt so much by the sticker price that way. I have an sr5 premium 4x4 and I can tell you you’re not gonna go to many places where you would need a trd model. Save yourself some money and you’ll be very happy with one of these

I never considered a 4 Runner, had Tundra, Highlander and now a RAV4. Seeing this video, I want one. I’ve had my past Toyota’s for a minimum of 16 years and expect this 4 Runner to last as long. Forget the Bronco, I hope they don’t redesign the 4 Runner.

There's something about the iconic 4Runner look, especially in its late 5th gen form, that can't be easily found in other SUVs or even in previous 4R gens. Now that I've seen what the 6th gen looks like, I know I'll be keeping my 2019 4R TRD Pro for the rest of my life. I'm averaging 5K miles a year, so it's highly likely that the truck will outlast me.

I am trying to understand! You are doing a review with top off roader TRD pro and driving on regular road and telling the features we already know?! What is the point?!

Yes, I love a more older look. More simple dash. I find it more appealing and gives it a quality luxurious feel. I dislike the newer electrical dash.
