As a mechanic when they say they improved something it means that they screwed something up. Around 10 to 12 years 150,0000 possibly 200,000 miles I hope you have at least 12 to 15 grand to replace the turbo and the battery pack, because that's what it's going to cost to keep it on the road and even less if you don't keep up with the maintenance.They should have kept the 4.0 V6 and just upgraded the transmission and regeared the rear end. Don't say I didn't warn you and if you don't believe me I'll tell you when I have to service your vehicle. Would highly recommend extended warranties as long as you keep the vehicle.

I just bought me a couple of hours ago a new white 24 TRD ORP. This TRD comes nicely equipped with KDSS, mtm monitor, moonroof, trail running boards, black-out lettering, high performance led fog lights, and, and, and... Sticker was $52, 213.00, dealer gave a $3,546.00 discount, and I was able to get another $1.5k off on top, so I ended up paying $47,167.00, plus tax and title fees. I'm feeling good about this deal, but I also know that I'm getting buyers remorse sometime tomorrow.... :) I'm flying out of Raleigh, NC to Pittsburgh, PA on Wednesday to pick my new 4Runner up. Looking forward to my ten hour drive back home from PA to NC! :)

@@cmdrls212 You’re right, In general new vehicles are bad investments because they are depreciating assets but 5th Gen Toyota 4Runners have been quite the outliers when it comes to maintaining their resale value. I know a few friends who have had dealerships contact them to buy back their now used 4Runners for a few thousands dollars more than the new purchase price. I would say if you can get your hands on a 2024 4Runner before they’re gone, do it.

I’m waiting for my 2024 TRD ORP in Barcelona Red Metallic to arrive. It will be my first ever new vehicle purchase and it’s a source of comfort to know that it’s an old kind of new. It doesn’t feel risky; I can envision driving it for a couple decades, but if I later decide to do something different, the resale on them almost feels criminal. Just bought a new '24 SR5 4x4. Wanted it as simple as possible with as little chance of things to break. I enjoy the little nuances and reliability that an old platform provides. I live down a long caliche/rock road and have already taken it stock on a couple of easy trails to camp in Texas. Very happy with my choice. I hope to drive it for 20+ years and get 300k plus. When I heard the '25s were changing to a new turbo 4cyl, that clinched the deal. I had a 1st gen ford ecoboost and just gave the vehicle away at 220k miles as it needed a 2nd engine replacement!

Great job on the review; I own 2024 TRD ORP with KDSS (my personal upgrade from a 3rd Gen with 275k). Note: Depending on how it’s doing I may consider a 2028 based on a known track record. Even the Taco now has some teething issues. Time will tell. All I know its only basic maintenance for me 3 years from now. The hybrid battery is a huge issue for me unless Toyota extends the hybrid battery warranty to 180k miles. Traditional 4Runner owners’ are in it for the long haul. The hybrid battery is a huge bill down the road. Under the current warranty plans from Toyota I’ll be tracking the non hybrid to see if it’s worth it.
@carhelpcorner
@carhelpcorner Ай бұрын
Thank you! I wouldn't be too worried about the hybrid battery life. Toyota's warranty is already 10 years 150,000 miles, and they often last far longer than that. Luckily Toyota went with their well proven and low cost NiMH battery for the 4Runner which I was happy to see.

Personally, I think that the 4Runner will always be an excellent vehicle with the best durability and I don't think it will be for the city, rather for country areas, but I don't see changes that are substantial, Toyota only makes small modifications and that's what they call new They half change the grills, the instrument panel, a suspension that is actually not new, the previous Tacoma already had the same one and that's it, and with that they make a great campaign for their vehicles.

I've had two toyota 4 runners, a 1998 that I put almost 400,000 miles on it before I had to give it up.... I cried. I am now in a 2012 runner (limited) and I can't wait for the new one. dana t.

I can relate dana t. I have a 98 sr5 with 273,000 miles and it still runs like a champ. It amazes me how that vehicle has got me out of some pretty hairy situations off road. I just purchased a 24 OR, very happy with it but I still kept my 98 and I am not going to part with it. Believe it or not, if I was to go take one of the vehicles off road right now … it would be the 98 sr5. I am so confident in its ability to get me to and back.

Well, if you still want to be able to put that kind of "extreme" milage on one. Better not buy the new 2025 model. That's FOR SURE.

Turbo 4 (not the +hybrid) makes premium a must, requires more oil change diligence, will cost significantly more to buy, but gives only a slightly better fuel economy, giving just a bit more HP and 25lbs of torque over the old V6.

The new 4Runner is an awesome truck thats sexy AF, but i love how old school the 5th gen is. With that roaring 4.0 v6, awesome old school trucky driving dynamics, & manual transfer case in the trd off road & pro! The old school body on frame vibes r what make the 4Runner so awesome! If u want more refinement out of a vehicle, then u probably wouldn’t be looking at a 4Runner in the 1st place

I have 2023 TR4 ORP in Lime Rush. Paid $53K out the door and added about $8K worth of upgrades to it. This will be my main ride for the next 15+ years. If I get anything new, this 4runner will be passed down or parked in garage.

New. I didn't like whiny drive train old. Also it floats on the road and feels like not planted.

I would stick with the 2024 as well because you know what you’re getting; a vehicle with a proven track record of exceptional reliability. Not bashing the new 6th generation model but I agree that it is not uncommon for there to be some issues with first model year vehicles. I say give it 2-3 model years and go for the 2027-2028 6th Gen 4Runner.

Calling the 1gr a dinosaur is truly sad. Proven reliability is what toyota is about. And that motor is insanely reliable.

I was never a fan of the 5th gens. I owned a 2nd gen, and have a 4th gen still running strong. This 6th gen will be my third. They hit every 4runner note i was hoping for from the looks and function side. Cannot wait to have this car for a decade+!

I'd take the 2024, just bought one. Until the new drive train and motor have had at least 3 years to work.out issues, it would be an expensive gamble. Ultimately, I believe tbe resale on the 2024 will remain high for some time. It's the last iconic 4 runner

Turbocharged engines get ruined if you drive mostly less than 2 miles,on most of your trips and the engine doesn't get warmed up. You probably want to get rid of the turbocharged vehicle before the warranty expires.

Driving short distances is bad for any engine. It sounds like what you’re actually referring to is direct injection. Thankfully, Toyota designed the 2.4T with D4S so it won’t build carbon any worse than the current V6 engine.

No matter what he said the 2024 four runner is better because there is no way the new generation will surpass the quality longevity reliability and the reason why people enjoy the previous generation. If you want new bells and whistles, go for the new more expensive forerunner and you know it will be more expensive but if you want something to last for years, enough said.

Let's be honest. The only reason auto makers are transitioning to turbo, hybrid powertrains is because of Left-Wing environmental politics. My naturally-aspirated, port-injected v6 2024 4runner will be on the road long after all the 2025 & 2026 turbocharged, hybrid 4runners have been sent to the junkyard, unless it is wrecked. I will never willingly purchase any machine where the designing engineers prioritize emissions over reliability. That would be foolish.

I bought the 4runner for death and taxes, reliability and toughness. It was the last real SUV, and honestly, if I could have ordered it with roll down windows and a cigarette lighter I would have. This is where Toyota has lost me they had the proudest and best last dinosaur with unlimited buyers. I feel the same as when I finally donated my XJ with 503k miles on her seeing the new "Jeeps" just a complete insult to the badge they once were. I dunno, I'm not happy with it, but I'm sure the latte sippers and soccer moms will line up to buy these new "4runners"

Going with the old, getting one before they are gone, wish I could buy two. If Toyota built the Tacoma in Japan I would buy that instead though. Check out the rad Toyota 4Runner PRO in exterior color (TERRA) very Kool I just can't justify a PRO and you will have to deal with standing out

I was very excited about the 6th Gen but I found it very underwhelming to be honest. Now I love my 2023 SR5 even more with its classic reliable design. Get a 2024 if you can, it is already a classic and as tough and reliable as they come…and with a little bit of money you can even make it more tastefully modern with all the aftermarket parts
